Just a note for those semi-tech heads here who like to keep up with new drivers, but also like Civ to work properly. A non-official beta has been leaked which has the 'weird lines on the globe/mini-map' bug fixed. This buy has, as far as I can tell, been localised to NV4x cards, perhaps even NV40s specifically (6800 based cards).

You can get the drivers at laptopvideo2go.com. Don't be fooled, these are probably not miracle drivers for laptops, laptopvideo2go just host pretty much any driver you could ever desire.

Go there if you're keen. So far, they seem pretty solid to me, though I've only played Civ with 'em.

EDIT: As a note, these report themselves as 81.87s in the Forceware control panel, but I can assure you they aren't. I was running the 81.87s previously, and still had the globe bug.

I tried it with my 6600gt, I still have problems.

I have a save game with a huge map if I load it virtual memory reaches 1000 mb. When I play sometimes I only see the map with nothing on it. Sometimes I see it only once sometimes I don't see it. It crashes when I see only the map.

It's just ****ed up, I didn't had that problem with 71.79 but I had artifacts with trees and other things drawn on the map (not units or buildings).

The 71.79 drivers seem to work the best but I dont even know if the drivers are the main problem anymore. Can anyone post wether or not the people that are having problems are using onboard sound? I know last night I played a large map and the Civ4 program was sucking my RAM for 765MB worth of pleasure, Which is a huge amount of process RAM im my opinion.

Yes indeedy good neighbor. I topped at about 760 yesterday as well, I try to reboot the PC every 4 or 5 hours and that kind of seems to help.

I kept TaskMan up while playing and noticed that the game was taking memory in 5meg segments for about an hour, happening maybe every few minutes.

I've for a P4 3.6g CPU and 1g of physical memory. I may upgrade that today because I just can't take the slowness (stuttering)?

I'll try the Nvidea 6800 32-bit patch mentioned in this thread and see it it helps.

Love the game, still much too reliant on turns instead of technical sophistication when it comes to workers/engineers. It shouldn't take many many years to build an oilfield if my Civ is discovering nuclear fission.

Yeah Large maps FTW!..lol I'ts a shame that this game has so many user issues. Im my personal opinion Civ4 is an awesome game..cant wait till it runs smooth and start getting some people making mods and units
Thats the best thing about Civ 3 was the custom units..it was like a ever expanding expansion pack.

As a note - I apologise to all and sundry. After playing for a few hours, I found that the globe bug does still exist in these drivers, it just seems much less frequent now.
