If I may suggest...take it to the staff forum and kick it around. You've heard different views on what people want and don't want and you'll keep getting that here I'm sure. The discussion of what you are thinking...that's just a target for discontent. Just an idea, take it private.

Has the concept of this thread changed?

If I can't buy a subforum, I might be willing to pay per post as marked like this one to get a less harsh standard of moderation. Of course I realize the price would be higher for such a post in a Red Diamond thread.

Assuming the merged OT will mostly have the same degree of moderation as the current Tavern part, is there really a need for even less moderation?

I think the Tavern level of moderation leaves a lot of free space. Granted, this can have bad effects from time to time, but it probably is a good compromise overall.

Seems good. Perhaps Art could go in Forum 1 and Entertainment in Forum 2, just to appease everyone.

While all discussion about the future of some other subforums is certainly interesting - we will certainly not do everything at once right now. Currently we are fine tuning a proposal along the lines of the OP. At some point in the next few days I'll close this discussion and put an updated version of the OP up for a poll in which we'll be interested in how much support such a re-merge of OT would garner.

Trust me, I've had plenty of days like that.

In the staff room at WPC its a day to be marked with a white stone when things go...the way I think they ought. Not a lot of white stones. That's okay, its not my website.

One thing is certain, the inevitable will happen.

WH should remain its own forum, in my view. Same goes for Sports, and some other subforums there.

Well, other sites have united OT sections, and you see tera-threads reaching 10K posts which are almost always:

-Some kind of forum game

-Some base history thread, often very antagonistic

-A general over-arching 'Sports' thread

I think it is better to keep some of the sub-forums as they are, otherwise it would be probable that a united over-OT would have some mega-threads, and then nothing else remaining in the first page for more than a fraction of a day...

If you're going to merge the subforums, which I hope you do, I'd rather it all be in one subforum. Breaking up A&E and WH doesn't really make much sense to me, and kind of defeats the purpose of the merger (to not have things unnecessarily broken up) in the first place.
