"Oh So Very Many Questions Than Before Not Worth Their Own Thread" Thread Vol. XXVI

Studies show that expressing anger just makes you more angry. Your best bet is to suppress and bottle it up.

I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or serious.

I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or serious, but I seriously doubt bottling it up is healthy, because AFAIK, I would die a painful, early death, and die either from a massive stroke/heart attack, or die in a manner that earns me and a dozen other poor souls a spot on the evening news for a few weeks and I get a permanent reputation as a monster.

Unless you said deliberately said that in an effort to shorten my lifespan by proxy. :dunno:

He is serious. It's a well-documented psychological principle that ranting or venting your anger just makes you more angry which causes further stress regarding the topic. "Bottling up" may not necessarily be the best way to put it; this implies you're just stewing in your own anger, which is really just a form of internal ranting. The best thing for you is actually to focus your energy on something else and not think about that thing which makes you so angry.

no zelig was trolling

although explicit ranting may not be helpful, ranting is going to be a coping mechanism for anger and so it is more important to identify the conditions to make you angry and why you are ranting; part of that will have to come through identifying what you are ranting about.

And then combine such recognition toward's something task-oriented

anyways this might be behind a paywall for some of you (I get access through my university) but this seemed a short enough and decent enough introduction to cognitive-behavioral response to anger and general ways of efficacy of understanding why you are angry

http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/...99903)55:3<295::AID-JCLP3>3.0.CO;2-A/abstract

here's a decent paragraph
"Cognitive therapy focuses on dysfunctional cognitive and cultural components of the
pre-anger state, biased appraisal processes, and the cognitive component of experienced
anger, and helps the individual identify and alter anger-engendering cognitive and schema
themes. Self-instructional training and problem-solving address cognitive elements of
anger, providing assistance in changing angry self-dialogue and guiding one’s self through
angry events in a calmer, more task-focused manner."

also note this is generalization; self-instructional training and self identification can be done without therapy sessions (i.e. it is therapist job to only help people reach those goals; they can be achieved without therapy).

Is any one going to start another "which movies have you seen?" thread?

To be honest I'm still a bit perplexed as to why they took down the old one.

I probably need help with my bottling up. I tend to obsess on things and remain in a state of cold rage, which stops me from doing anything productive. I've learned not to take the people on this forum seriously, but pro-Palestinian propagandists tend to get me the most riled up, especially when they say something so obviously dishonest it can't be chalked up to stupidity or ignorance.

More than likely because they do not let very many threads hang around past 1000 post.

I re-looked and Quackers was the 1000th poster. Terxpahseyton was 1001.

I understand this. But "What Books Have You Read" thread is allowed to persist past 50 pages because the level of discussion is high enough to warrant it. Movies Have You Watched is probably about comparable level of quality, so...why does that one get shut down?

It's a secret competition that lasts until the mods are satisfied with a witty title

someone can just make the movie thread. I made the last one (VIII) wasn't the 1000th poster in VII (and it lasted to like 1080 posts)

I did not think that it was the first movie thread.

http://reddit.com/r/self (can be a bit critical, not much experience w/ it personally. it's last on this post for a reason)
3. Angry rants are not allowed. Your post must concern something that has been bothering you for a while, not the rant for the guy that parked in your spot once.
I'm looking to do what 3 describes.

Although I did go ahead and subscribe to all 3, and an additional related one, so thanks.

No one else have laws about 'dipped beam' 24 hours/day?

That's probably because there were roughly 8 people who thought Civ III was better than Civ IV ... and they were clearly wrong ;)
So who are these 8 people, specifically? I'd like to know who you are, if possible.

How aggressive are mudcrabs (or their closest real life equivalent) in RL?

What the hell is a mudcrab?
