Oh, the weather outside is...

We're in another heat wave. It's going to be over 100F (38C) all weekend and the beaches will surely be packed like on the 4th of July so there will be another Covid spike.

We wanted to go hiking this weekend so we went this morning since we're at the begninning of the heatwave - it will be in the mid-80's (high 20's C) tomorrow morning by 7am whereas today it was only 73 (23C) when we started out. It was a good hike but the cloud cover burned off by the time we were done and it got hot. My mask also broke part way through the trail and there were enough people that I felt naked without it...:(

Do you wear masks outside in the countryside? Why is that necessary?

Fall is here. Cool nights (10-15 C) but pleasant during daytime (15-20 C). Knowing SARS-COV2 is more rampant than ever I dub this season Dawn of Ashes.

I wear them anytime I'm outside, except in the car.

It's stupid crowded on the trails here and I don't feel comfortable being shoulder-to-shoulder with people even outdoors. I have less tolerance for risk given I'm living with a preggers person as well. Also, it's good to model the behavior you want to see in others even if you don't think it's 100% necessary. So I put the mask on.

Yesterday they said the peak heat would be 100 today and 104 tomorrow. This morning that got updated to 104 today and 113 tomorrow. It will be at 100 all week long too - and we're under a flex alert so I have to shut off the A/C.

Greater Los Angeles, California

The flex alerts happen because over the past decade they've aggressively set up solar power in the region but failed to install battery capacity. When the sun goes down, so does available power. :( They also suspect some Enron-style corruption is going on as well but haven't proven it yet.

Windy, windy, windy today and the high temps are expected to go from mid 90s yesterday to mid 60s tomorrow and then back to the 90s in a few days. I'm sure it is Canada's fault. On the plus side, we might get some actual rain tonight.

The storm front blew through and dropped .4 inches of rain :) along with 50-70 mph winds. it is downright cold today, in the 50s.

My local weather hit 0.5 blade runners in the apocalyptic pollution scale. The sky turned orange on Tuesday or Wednesday and the air quality has reached record low levels through the rest of the week. I didn't have it this bad, but this real video of San Francisco is close to what I experienced here in Southern California:
The entire west coast is on fire.

It seems that in half a week the temperature will finally stop reaching a high of 30, and drop a bit.
I can't stand this weather, and for years now there have been only two seasons (only summer and winter, with nothing in between - and the winter tends to be warmer too).

Remember when I was whining about no rain  flushing only after #2, bathing in a bucket? No more. :shake:
I think it was a 1950's story by Ray Bradbury which was set on Venus, where it never stopped raining. So now it's like that. :ack:
Well, we know now that this is one of Bradbury's stories that's obsolete in as far as depicting life on Venus. The theme remains, though. Damn selfish kids.

In Grade 7, our Literature teacher read "All Summer in a Day" to us, and I remember seeing an adaptation on TV as well.

That Grade 7 teacher assigned us another Bradbury story: "There Will Come Soft Rains". Now that one was depressing...

I'm sure it is Canada's fault.
When it's really cold, we blame Alaska. :p When it's moderately cold, we chalk it up to whatever's going on in the Pacific Ocean (it's a La Nina year, so expect a colder winter).

Cooler temperatures this week but the air pollution is still awful. It's been making my allergies go nuts and I've been having to take benadryl on top of allegra.

Sunny but windy today. Long walk in the forest (3.5 hours). Very pleasant Saturday. There are still lots of European blueberries and cowberries to be found so I collected my share.

Unpredictable - One day is like an autumn cold and the other is like sunny warm.

The sky out here (New England) is completely overcast, despite doppler radar showing that we should have clear blue skies. The reason??

The smoke from the west coast wildfires have traveled all the way to east coast... a distance of 3000 miles covered by wildfire smoke. I didn't believe it until I actually looked it up myself.

It really is the apocalypse  :shake:
