Being born in the same town as Oliver Cromwell, I've researched about him quite a bit. People have some conflicting viewpoints as to whether he was good or not for the UK, so what do you think?

I've heard Cromwell was genocidal towards the Irish, can anyone confirm this is true, or will this simply be one of the many mysteries surrounding him?

Yah, Cromwell did bring the noble art of persecuting the Irish to a whole new level of professionalism.

Yes, it's true. Cromwell's brutality during the Irish campaigns is comparable to colonial genocides of the 16th-20th centuries.

Yea, ole Cromwell had lots of fun of beating down the Irish. And while I approve of keeping down the non Ulster Irish he got a little too happy with it. He was also a European dictator before being one was cool, so I think he sucked.

The fact that it's absolutely awful only makes it better, in my opinion.

You know what would be good? A hipster Cromwell webcomic.

Cromwell was terribly interested in the epidemic of height in Ireland. He wanted to make the whole population shorter by a head.

France beheaded their king? Pffft, guess who made that cool.

Funny story about his son. In AP Euro class when memorizing the Stuart dynasty, we listed them off as James I, Charles I, -Cromwell, Incompetant Cromwell- Charles II, James II.

This is the funniest thing I've seen in a while. It rarely happens that I actually laugh in front of the screen.

His good parts is his contribution to England's political development is the hastening of the monarchy into a constitutional monarchy.

His bad parts is that he himself was as bad an absolutist king and was probably the most tyrannical head of state since Henry VIII.

That and his Puritanism and the Anglo-Dutch Wars

who the what now

Yea, because evidently Parliament didn't exist till then and there is an actual written constitution now. Didn't you know Dachs?

who the what now

Would you not agree that if Charles I won the Civil War, the power of the parliament would have been set back a couple of decades?
