I fortunately didn't encounter that problem. I know that people that had ATI cards seemed to have more problems than others.

I'm playing DH now and apart from the map and more interesting tech tree there's a huge improvement in performance. Seriously, the game just flies even in the later years, making it much more feasible to complete a long campaign than in other versions of HOI2 (I've played both standard HOI and Arsenal of Democracy). There might be some balance issues left to address in patches, though; it seems the German AI hardly ever does very well against the Soviets (losing is one thing; consistently getting pushed back a year or two early without ever gaining much ground is another thing) while on the other hand the Japanese do unreasonably well (handily rolling over the Chinese and then continuing on into Southeast Asia and India almost every time, it seems).

Also, the Kaiserreich mod is pretty awesome. A what-if scenario where the Central Powers won WW1, and now it's 1936 again and things are pretty messed up: Radical socialists have gained power in Britain and France and half of Italy; British royalists have gone into exile and are trying to turn the old Commonwealth against the British socialist state; France is spoiling for a rematch against Germany; ethnic and ideological unrest is brewing in various places; civil wars are threatening to break out both in Russia and the USA (which has been stuck in a solid isolationist decline for two decades). It's fun and unpredictable (although again, some weirdness remains to be patched out, for instance there are some broken events that can lead to situations that should be logically impossible).
 
Kaiserreich is easily the best alternate history mod out there for any game. It's even a moderately decent alternate history (although a lot of things seem to have been changed just for the sake of being different, not because there was any real cause and effect), which is almost impossible to find.
 
New starting point in 1861, allowing players to experience the US Civil War from the start.

It's got that one more turn feeling to it. :D

Drain those wetlands in Karelia...Build that Railroad in Smolensk...Build that Sewer System in Kiev...Fight those rebels in the Caucasus...Stir up trouble with the neighbours...oops...It's 2 AM. :crazyeye:

It still needs patches and work in some areas but overall I'm quite impressed. :)

I hope the Victoria Expansion will solve a lot of the issues I have with Victoria.

I found the game a bit of a disappointment due to the lack of enough historical elements, the heavy restrictions in declaring war, the provincial system, the colonisation of Africa and Asia is non-existent, the failure to properly represent Indian-British relationship, how impossibly quick it takes China to industrialise. I am disappointed at the lack of 'missions' in it unlike those of EUIII. And how random the land-grabs are. Or how hard it is for the Balkans to revolt. And overturning slavery and passing other reforms are just too easy. AND I WANT MY TROOPS TO AUTO-UPDATE THEMSELVES LIKE THEY DO IN HOI or EUIII!

I actually wish there was a way one could swap territories with another power in terms of both diplomacy and in war. Though Im quite sure that it would be quickly abused by AI.

Still... the game has a lot of potential. And EUIII took at least 3 expansions to become the awesome game it is today...

It's happened multiple times and I've seen other incidents in the Paradox forums. As fun as Victoria II is, the scripting of the Civil War is pathetic, it's nearly impossible to avoid Louisiana from joining the Union.
