PAX Conference analysis thread

List of Maritime City states:

Cape Town
Jakarta
Lisbon
Manila
Mombasa
Quebec City
Ragusa
Rio de Janeiro
Sydney
Venice

So with Ur being maritime... this increases the chances for many potential civs, but imo, most likely Portugal and Majaphit

Maybe the surprise wildcard civ will be the Philippines?

After seeing Ur as a City-State, I'm 99.9% sure Sumer won't be in. Same goes for Swahili

Yep - Zanzibar's name appeared in the demo too. So both Sumer and the Swahili are off the list of potential civs

Portugal and Indonesia must really be in the game. I would love if they included "Valparaíso" and "Callao" as a maritime cities as well. The Southern Cone deserves it. :)

I'm not convinced by that reasoning. There was at least one other militaristic state in the game's original release: Tyre. That's still a CS, but it's a different type of CS. While they haven't mentioned anything about adding new CS types this time around, if a CS was made obsolete it may well be that an existing militaristic CS name was transferred to another CS class to leave the vacancy filled by Sofia. We already know there will be vacancies for Rio and Warsaw at the very least.

Hmm, they could do that, but why change a CS to a different CS if there are no new CS types ? They could just add a new one.

Although...

Serbia split from the Orthodox church and founded an independent Serbian Orthodox Church. And Serbain kings were really into the whole monastry building thing...

So, how's this ? Sofia replaces Belgrade as a military CS, Belgrade becomes a religious CS, and La Venta becomes the Olmec civilization.

A possible conclusion, but I think it's more likely that a military CS directly goes fulll civilization for the sole reason that it's one step less.

Or Sofia replaces Belgrade (both are green) and Yugoslavia becomes a civ :p

I loved the Assyrian leader scene.

RE: XCOM unit - it would defy logic for that unit not to be in the game, given they had a decent explanation for it, had all the art done for it, and revealed it to cheers from the audience.

RE: trade routes - did anyone catch what the tooltip said when the trade route was being selected?

I can't say for sure, but I think it was something about how much gold that trade route would generate or something similar

Also, speaking of trade routes: I think that the trade units and the system as a whole were better than I expect. They are units you can move around but they don't create unnecessary micromanagement.

One thing I notice is that when ed said we would need to protect the unit, he moved the boat manually into the fog, so I am guessing we won't have any kind of "escort" or "protect" command for these units, which is just sad :(

He manually moved specifically for meeting Brazil, which was a planned thing to happen so they could reveal them.

Looking more closely at the video, when the cargo ship route was being selected, the tooltip suggested that there is a 2x multiplier for sea routes. Which I guess is the compensation for the supposed removal of coastal gold bonus.

Speaking of video,

"He is working for the aliens"

That really tickled me funny bones, made my day tis is!:D

Also trade routes give better gold per turn if the city your unit is heading to has different resources than you/markets.

Why wouldn't they? Asia was passed over altogether in Gods & Kings, yet this is the area of the planet with some of the most developed urban societies outside Europe (and East Asia has been covered as comprehensively as Western Europe), as well as a very well-documented history. They've had two civs just from Scandanavia, after all, and mainland Southeast Asia is a far larger region. Every one of the area's modern countries lays claim to at least one notable historical civilisation; Vietnam hosted several, including the longest-lasting.

Unless they add Malaysia (which is not impossible, to really throw things off), it's also the only one of the mainland Southeast Asian countries (other than Thailand, already in the game) that's of any modern political relevance; Vietnam was geopolitically important during the Cold War, and has one of the world's fastest-growing economies today.

Malaysia is part of maritime South east asia.....

I think it's pueblo...

Moderator Action: Moved some posts about Pueblo from the 'What We Know' sticky to the PAX discussion thread.

Veo que eres colombiano, qué te parece la manga de gringos echando para abajo a nuestros pueblos originarios? Me da mucha rabia que se limpien el culo con nuestra historia!
