One - You are showing off your ignorance here. Two - It was mentioned that was the concept art that would have been used for Pope for the Pueblo.
==============

The Pueblo council didn't like his useage due to religious reasons and therefore at the very least he is not a leader in game. Its not certain yet if the Pueblo themselves were entirely scrapped, nor him.

Malaysia is part of maritime South east asia.....

I was referring to mainland as opposed to island SE Asia (i.e. Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore and Brunei). Two Malaysian states are indeed on Borneo, but the Malay Peninsula is certainly part of the Asian mainland...

have you seen his statue? it's too similar...

The graphic is, indeed, Pope, but as discussed on the thread this is pre-production art that will not be featured in the main game. Why the Civ developers decided to go to all the trouble of creating Pope's art and only contacted the tribal council afterwards to ask for permission is anyone's guess.

I do realize that

but it's referred to as part of Maritime South East Asia academically.
(on another note, the Philippines were a part of the malay sultunate)

Did anyone catch whether the great artist/writer/musician still had the Golden Age starter ability? If they don't that might be a bit of a Nerf to the Persians.

Because they didn't need their permission to use his likeness. It was only a matter of respect after the fact that they chose not to use the leader. You don't start development on something only after you get permission you don't need.

I really hope someone asks about trade with CS and influence, and also about spheres of influence.

Ho Chi Minh of Vietnam? Possible, but I doubt we get both Indonesia and Vietnam, so I'm still hoping Indonesia

Although it could be:

Vietnam
Brazil
Portugal
Assyria
Poland
Indonesia
Zulu
Kongo
Native American

These choices would work fine for me.

Was the XCOM assault team a joke?

I highly doubt two Southeast Asian civs will get in. I would like it but it doesn't seem possible. I find it more likely for another European country (Italy, Belgium, Yugoslavia) to get in.

Trade routes were interesting. I remember it being mentioned that religion, culture, and science could leak through. Do you all think this will be a hidden modifier or will it be displayed somewhere in game?

I also wonder if attacked caravans will be able to take a few hits. I see a lot of comments worried about having to baby-sit caravans, but if they can take a couple hits it shouldn't be too bad to keep a couple of caravels spread out along the path and move them in for cover. If the caravans are insta-killed, it could be annoying though.

Why are people so convinced x-com squad is a joke. That would be a ton of pointless work to create the models, animation, and stats for a unit that was just a throw away joke for a few hundred people.

Many game companies have joke stuff that don't make it into the game. That, along with scrapped ideas. Creating a new unit icon, some color shading, and green lines during animation I wouldn't classify as "tons" of work.

It is a joke, especially since it was purposely shown after the demo and made comments such as comparing the 40 tile drop range to the in-game 6 of paratroopers, the light attitude of the Assyrian leader working for aliens, etc.

I don't know Vietnam just seems to fit. Belgium and Italy will go well with the scramble for Africa, Then again Poland would have made the into the ren scenario better for GnK.

could count vietnam as east asia? :p

I dont buy that the Pueblo are gone.

If you listen to Dennis concerning Pope and the Pueblo, he very clear says that its the first time they've "had to stop production on a leader". Later he concludes, "and thats one example of where we actually had to turn around and not include a leader in the game." He never says the Civ is gone, almost everything he says involves Pope, not the Pueblo. I'm betting they're still in, just with a less "spiritual"/controversial leader. And he even mentions they did research on other leaders before selecting Pope, implying they had other options.

Well.., geographically they are in SE Asia.., but culturally they are influenced by sinosphere (along with China, Korea, n Japan).., while the rest SE Asian civs is influenced by Indosphere (India and Siam)..

So.., yeah..
Maybe we can do that..
