PAX Conference analysis thread

Wait, I don't see the diplo button, that used to be by the Advisor Button's side... I see the ideologies, the social policies and the espionage only

Am I missing something really obvious? :(

What I find quite interesting is this screenshot:

You'll notice the Select Player: Poland box. This would imply that we'd be able to view other players cultural influences. And that might suggest that they've overhauled the demographics screen so we can view the demographics of any one player, because it wouldn't make much sense to be able to view other civs culture/tourism in depth but not their military, population, etc.

Or maybe I'm just jumping to conclusions.

I don't think the camera always showed the sides of the screen. Different aspect ratios. I noticed it panning a few times in order to frame the action.

Militaristic, if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks.:)

If there is a new militaristic CS it probably means an old militaristic CS has been turned into a full civ.
Militaristic CS I remember:

Almaty
Budapest
Belgrade
Hanoi
Sidon
Valletta

If you correctly remember that Sofia is militaristic and I correctly remember all militaristic CS (although I've probably forgotten one or two) than I think we'll probably see Hungary or Serbia.

I believe they said it was recorded and was going to be put up after a while. Check back at the same link, under the Videos tab at the bottom, to see if the eventually do so. I'm sure someone will post here when they do, as well.

Alright thanks. Did they explain how they would compensate for the loss of gold from river tiles?

I would have preferred Sumer over Brazil, but I am biased towards more historical civs as opposed to modern nations (with people who have the potential to purchase a civ game). Still, it's good for all the people who wanted Brazil, I just hope it is not a sign of things to come. Canada, Australia are lovely places but I have a lot of historical civs I want to see before they start catering to modern nationalistic pride.

In the end though, I am getting this either way even if they add South Sudan.

I get what you're saying, but the problem when you focus on the classic historical civilizations is that you get an overload of European and Middle Eastern choices. If you want geographic diversity of civilizations, you have to be choosy about Middle East/European leaders and liberal about other locales. On top of that, Civ 5 is steering away from multiple leaders of the same civilization, so China and Japan get one choice despite their long and storied histories.

But I still want the question tweeted, to whoever tweets the question, could you pm me/write on my wall here so I know which handle to look for? [Regarding the Pueblo situation]

I doubt that they'd answer, but if you give me a couple minutes I'll tweet them. Just need to figure out my password again. :goodjob:

Thanks.:)

Or Vietnam.

Excellent analysis. Vietnam is another possibility, though I think the aforementioned two are more likely (I'm thinking Serbia).

You're welcome, and no, they didn't discuss that at all. The BNW segment was pretty succinct: release date (July 9), Brazil, Assyria, a couple CSes, trade, Great Works, and the X-COM segue. Plus some discussion as to why they couldn't include a Pueblo leader.

Is a Sambadrome UB too stereotypical for Brazil? It could be a culture building.

Thanks.:)

Granted, they could have just added a new name for the heck of it, but...

Here's a list of militaristic city states: http://civilization.wikia.com/wiki/City-state_(Civ5)#List_of_city-states

For those too lazy to look, here's the list and potential civs:

Almaty -- Kazakhstan
Belgrade -- Serbia
Budapest -- Hungary
Dublin -- Ireland
Edinburgh -- Scotland

Hanoi -- Vietnam
Sidon -- Phoenicia
Valletta -- Malta

Out of those, I'd say Hungary, Serbia, Vietnam, and possibly Phoenicia might be possible civs. In my opinion, of those, Hungary and Vietnam are more likely, with Hungary being the most likely.

This might be overanalyzing things, but who knows.

Granted if Vietnam's in that'd be a miracle.
