PBEM Playtest of AWAW

Of cause Emugod, a big welcome to you! :king:

You should know that your first turn has been played.
Besides of that you also reside over Finland and Spain.

Good luck!

If that's the case then I kind of want someone to play France/Minor allies as England is in a rough enough spot as it is...

(On another note, why did you make ships defend extra vs airplanes? Early bombers is all britain gets for a long time and they suck against ships in port)

When does the Minor Axis play and am I at war with anybody?

Btw, Henrik - I think you will find that the germans are in a rough spot as well... after all, this is 1939... so the war hasn't really begun. Plenty of time for mobilization and better weaponry. The only real danger is Japan, who will have a good shot at Asia before the Americans can get there. -but you will be there to defend too ;)

I think you'd be well off producing large numbers of infantry, preparing for massive joint invasion schemes with the Americans. Already got a couple of schemes in mind, but it'll be some time before I'm ready.

Emugod, as far as I know you are at peace with all nations. For the moment....:D

Give me a few hours and I'll have my next turn up... just "finshed" an upgrade and just got back on the net and hey civ2 isn't even installed *shock horror*

Still here - just don't you replace me.

I have corrected this in the new rules text I have uploaded. I also found that the ships were too powerfull in defence vs. air.)

Balls... have a closer look at the maps and political situation. I'm trapped without any industry and just waiting for someone to come and conquer me.

And since when have I been at war with the USSR? when I last looked I was "receptive" I knew of no declaration of war

War?

Lord Boli was told as he woke up this morning that he was at war with Russia, shocked he was heard to exclaim: "Well someone could have told me!" and when asked for a further comment he made several rude jesters in the direction of Moscow shouting "You want it you got it - bring it on!"

The Emperor, may his name live forever, made a plea for peace with the Russian ambassador in the council chamber later that day Premier and apologised for the drunken antics of his Lord Protector and sought a peaceful solution to the political crisis

American “fishing fleet”

Disturbed by intelligence that America sent all of their ships to war, Lord Boli asked his people to remain calm, yet at the same time urged them to barricade their houses against a possible surprise attack. *In thick Japanese Accent* “Them damn Yanks! They don’t know a yard-sail from a rudder but, there a load of them across the water and they seem to want to come this way, I want every one of them questioned.”

The coastal waters around our islands have now been closed to international traffic as the situation in the pacific worsens, and on land the Chinese continue to elude our guns, truly not a good month for Japan.

Hey Morten, how is it hanging? You haven’replied with your turn yet. :undecide:

He hasn't downloaded the file - in fact no-one has. We may have to start looking for a replacement/fill in if he doesn't reply shortly.

America continues preparations for full mobilization.

notes :

* graphical glitch with the bottom of the plains graphic (Richmond, Salt Lake City)
* city improvement called "none" in Alaska
* penguins in the arctic?? how about eskimos or minerals/oil?

when some cities disbands improvements because of low cash flow it is nigh impossible to build them back, if these cities have no factories in their perimeter. How did the improvements get there in the first place, when the cities have such lousy production? -some cities can be built up I guess, but those on the pacific islands are very hard to build up... they and are practically worthless, since no improvements can be built in a loong time, and have little strategic importance except as bases for airplanes.

I suggest a few engineers (preplaced perhaps or given via certain events) which will allow the building of new factories i certain terrains (suburbs for instance), and improve rail networks.

Perhaps the poor economic condition of some US cities is meantto simulate the Great Depression.

Hmm, Morten, not quite sure what you mean by that glitch. I cannot find it on my own computer. Have any of you besides Morten also experienced this?

The "none" improvements are actually former shipyards. They were removed because I didn't liked that ships could be repaired in one turn. Actually nearly all nations have 1 or 2 which I have missed to delete. I checked it a couple of days ago, and they will not appear in the version 1.1.

If you all don't like sweet little penguins in the Artic, I will process them to furs or something similar.

Yes, cities with low production are nearly impossible to build up. I made that decession because I thought that it was unrealistic that for instance Midway could massproduce infantry or ships every turn. But actually I have modified this. When you develop U-boat construction you will be able to build Sub Pens (ie. Offshore Platform)

Implementing Engineers could have some nice effects, though I think that the drawbacks especially the AI's use of them (building roads everywhere thus allowing too much mobility around the map) exceeds the positive sides even by allowing just a few ones.
But I have thought alot about this issue, and it is very tempting.

BTW, Emugod, you are aware that it is your turn? I hope that we all can speed up the proces from now on.

The graphical glitch only appears in the city screen, where one can see that the grey border area of the tile is not transparent.

There are no penguins in the arctic. They don't live there. They only live in Antarctica, AFAIK ;)

The AI won't be able to build roads everywhere, if they have just a few engineers. Its only a problem, when they can build them, since they will build them in massive numbers then. The great thing about them is, that they'd make the game more fun for mobilizing a country for war. Otherwise all you can do is adjust taxes and science, and wait for production/growth to rise. Which is less fun and less creative :)

The problem with the low-or-zero shield production of some cities is that they become worthless. I won't invest protection in a city I don't find valuable, economic and production-wise, I'd rather abandon the city and focus on the rich ones. Its hardly worth protecting the Philippines from the Japs, since the cities there are not worth protecting. A way to perhaps solve this dilemma, is to have some preplaced key improvements (shipyards and other smart but expensive/nonbuildable stuff could be a possibility) or wonders there, which will make the cities worth a lot, even if they are lousy production-economic wise. They'd give a greater incentive to be on the offensive.
