PH06: One is the Loneliest Number!

So...um...who are the daughters in this relationship? :mischief:

Loneliness, it such a peculiar feeling. It feels your heart with emptiness, and yet, you sometimes yearn to be alone.

It all began with the encounter of the British fat lady ....

We talks about the rest of couples ... and I am starting to feel a bit of jealousy and envy there. They had such a different lives ... there is so much going on in their life. Although I like my bachelorhood, but I can;t help to feel a bit ... monotonous in my everyday life.

You see, Vicky can sometimes boss over her inferior, sometimes choose to give comfort to Asoka (although what kind of comfort a man can derive from her is unimaginable). For Alex, he can choose to have pain in his butt, or give pain to someone else's butt. And Cathy, she enjoys the thrill of having an affair with someone else's husband behind Sally's back.

Me? Nothing!

Ah, an animal ...

lonely-BC2530-animal.jpg

Would you like to be my partner, O Magnificent Cat?

lonely-BC2500-lion-attack.jpg

Guess not ...

I resigned to my loneliness, and recline to my own solitude, doing research. All sort of research .....

... such that we are classified as the most powerful ... ... so powerful that we are off the chart!

It seems, loneliness is indeed a powerful weapon.

---------------------------------- The Save ----------------------------------

I was wondering why we were researching Sailing, being on a Pangea map. My guess is it is for lighthouse, so I built one after a workboat and a warrior. Thereafter, I whipped the lighthouse at its last turn for overflow into settler. End turn, we have a settler heading out, and a worker in queue. After these, we need more units.

The reason why I started a settler first before worker is because there is nothing for worker to do. Which is why I started wheel first, and head towards animal husbandry. But being without copper, we need iron working fast too. So next player can consider switching to that.

Instead of the city Pholky signed, I think we need to be a lot more aggressive in settling, lest we be trapped in a small part of the Pangea. My suggestion is thus below:

 great write-up! it seems the story-tellers guild is spreading to other games now? (Do i smell a new SG series...STG?? anyway . . .)

I agree about settling towards our enemies first. we can't even use the other resource at the corn site right now.

Roster (nothing cute, nothing fancy, lest i confuse the small-minded...and you know who i mean  )
Fox > just played
Furrie > UP NOW and will play tomorrow
Karr > on deck
Cosmic >
Frank >
Pholk >

Is it my 'ph' sound, is that what attracts so many f-in players to my games...
get it, that's a pun ~ :rotfl:

i'll play this late evening.
First need to fix my dual install of Warlords and i'm going to buy anno 1701 :)

Ok me simple minded don't get it about the ph. Maybe what "Penthouse" now that's appealing. Just a simple minded blood thirsty warrior.

Ok you can make a cute/fancy roster I think my little brain can handle that much maybe we'll see. Ouch brain hurts. DOH.....

Nice report Greyfox enjoyed that very much. Even going after the lions aye you must really be lonely.

Hey my 1600th post do I get any prizes?

Right, my dual install kinda failed, and I haven't played yet either.
sorry for the delay, Anno 1701 really takes a lot of time once you start a game.
I'll play this evening (2.08 patched :D).

Allready played my turns.
They were very uneventful so I played 20 turns (didn't really know what was agreed) :p
I'll post some relevant screens and tell something at the relevant turns.

T7: Animal Husbrandy invented -> Hunting

We have Horses at Rome and another Horse at a very good city site !

T8: Rome: Worker -> Work Boat

T9: Found Antium on the most Northern Spot near Alex, Antium starts a Work Boat

T15: Hunting invented -> Mysticism

T16: Rome: Work Boat -> Settler (I swap some tiles to get the settler in 9 turns.)

Nothing happened after that.
We should just keep settling aggressive, Greyfox's city placement seems just right. and with the free +2 :culture: , we can build cities close to their borders.

Here is an overview of our borderlands :p:

Don't forget it's now version 2.08 ;)

Played 15 turns because Pholk once again gives us no hints at all.

T3 - Mysticism in -> start Pottery.

T6 - Settler done and I start a warrior. I move the settler to this spot before it's gone:

001.jpg

T10 - Warrior done and I start a worker.

T11 - Pottery in -> start Writing. I also start connecting our horses to Rome.

T12 - The workboat in Antium is done and I start a warrior there, so Rome can crank out workers and settlers.

T14 - Some barb warriors are running around in the fog:

002.jpg

But chariots are the #1 barb killer so the next player can smash them. ;)

T15 - Settler is in place to found our 3rd city next turn and Rome finishes the worker on the next turn.

I'd go for another worker so we can get the gold mine up at Antium and start some cottages. Of course we also don't want to lose out on the 3rd forward city spot.

Nice turns all! good to see a lot of forward movement in the game :goodjob:

I hope that since i gave each 'marriage' a 'religious' civ, they'll all try to found their own religions ~ that'd be good for some strife, but we just need to remember that we have to kill one partner from each team before we win ~ which, to me, seems to suggest that we should go with Domination of course, using the Praetorians for as long as possible.

Once Writing comes in, i would head for Iron Working next to settle near some and get started on making everyone as lonely as we are . . . :satan:

Other longer term plans?

Ok this is "I got it" and am playing without the patch as per a post a few pages back. Will play later on today in the evening.

Settle, get another worker for gold, and after writing head for iron working for the famous Praets.

no, we're playing WITH the patch as I've got no unpatched version!

Glad you spoke up and here's the post you made some pages back which made me think we are playing unpatched.

uhh..unpatched! Go, go, go!

No problem I can go both ways. LOL

Don't let Alex hear you, or he'll be expecting a "permanent alliance"... :p

I just knew someone would comment on that LOL.......

One is the loneliest number tune just keeps playing in my head over and over again. So I venture out to see who started this tune that won’t stop. I go check with the other couples and they deny even knowing about it. They just look at me like I’m lonely or something. They all cling together like saran wrap and just start getting into stuff that is for 18+ only so I leave as the two guys are getting into it and not finding that any fun though. That Cathy has got a hot bod but Vicky scares the crap out of me. Come on guys what’s this some kind of orgy. (never have a camera when I need one) Are you sure Vicky is a woman cause I don’t know but I didn’t look too closely but I think she’s one of those transformed guys like Roseanne Barr.

That Alex guy though looks at me funny though and well that certainly hastens my exit. Must be what I said in the forum earlier on. Just wait till we cut his empire off at the seams and see how that look changes.

Turn 1

Ok I see we are on prince as I wondered why there was no AI spawn like usual. Rome finishes worker start another warrior to accompany to the land of gold.
Judaism is founded. Settle the city of Cumae on spot. Hopefully culture (good ole Caesar is great for that) will get us that ivory soon.. Alex won’t be happy though so we need an army soon. Hopefully Praets. Ok move our only warrior with worker since he will need protection in that land of fog. Of course Rome complains but another warrior only three turns away.

Civ4ScreenShot0002.jpg

Turn 2

Alex converts to Judaism so it he that discovered it. That means at some point his culture will improve so we should take that into consideration.

Turn 3

Ok some afterthought. (my brain hurts need some bananas from those monkees)
Feel that moving worker all the way to gold is too far and easier just to build one at Antium. Move worker back to Rome and warrior to do some fog busting. Notice too that Alex is running around with chariots. I think he just likes those hunky guys that pilot them.

Turn 4

Ok we in trouble barbs are sending axes our way already. (ok this is prince but now already?) Good thing we started a chariot in Rome must be my “Sith” foresight.

Civ4ScreenShot0004.jpg

Turn 5

We should think about sailing to connect Rome to Antium so it benefits from the gold and Antium could build chariots as I don’t trust Alex when he’s boxed in. He and Mansa had a spat so he’s even in a fowler mood now.

Turn 6

Hey we so large it’s off the scale. (yep fox said the same thing so repeat, repeat. Damn the cd’s skipping again on that “one is the loneliest number”. DOH)
We discover writing for those cheap libraries and start on Iron working as planned.

Civ4ScreenShot0006.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0007.jpg

Hey we may be lonely but we don’t even register……..mmmmmmm

Turn 7

This where I decide to take a nap. Wake me when there’s some action.

Turn 8

Rome finishes chariot start another to protect other cities just in case.

Turn 9

Cumae pops borders but as I suspected Alex’s culture is too strong for us to take ivory as we are competing against his capitol. At least only way to our lands now is via galley so we keep that land for ourselves and let the couples dance on less land.

Turn 10

Vicky asks for OB but decline especially after the mental picture replays in my mind. I just want her to disappear very fast. Better to be alone than hooked up with that one.

Civ4ScreenShot0008.jpg

Turn 11

Alex asks for OB too decline but we better watch him he’s nasty when he gets boxed in.

Civ4ScreenShot0009.jpg

Turn 12

We have one unhappy in Rome as we grew past our happy limit. Will whip the bugger when we can. Chop for mine finishes another chariot start a settler since we might want to finish settling near Cumae. (does that name remind you of anything) Worker start another mine since we need some miners to dress up the place.

Turn 13

Ok Cumae takes ivory from Alex so start monument there (two warriors garrisoned there now) to keep our culture strong since it’s a matter of time before Alex gets a religion in Athens. (He’s upset with the rabbi since they won’t let him marry Mansa)

Turn 14

Now Cathy wants OB and decline. Trust me that was hard since I have a hard time saying no to that hot aristocrat. Can whip settler in Rome but needs 3 pop hold off until at 2 pop.

Civ4ScreenShot0010.jpg

Turn 15

I moved our chariot out to head to Antium but a barb axe got him. Surprised since they supposed to be good against axes. Our other chariot took out a warrior so he’s healing in a forest but watch him and don’t let him become prey to that axe. Whip the settler for 2 pop since we have food galore in Rome. Next player can decide what to do with him. Worker in Antium will be done in 2 turns. As to tech path well IW is going to take a long time 20 turns at this point so putting a library next in Rome might help.

Getting a city in that other spot near Cumae will limit galleys from getting to our lands so I think we should go for that spot. Good thing this isn’t monarch as we would be getting killed in maintenance already however it is affecting us so COL will be needed soon too.

Roster:

Fox > He's so lonely he's going for the lions
Furrie > He's so lonely he goes for "Patat met mayonaise"
Karr > He's so lonely asks barb chick for a date
Cosmic > just played and he's so lonely goes for some "dropjes" (dutch licorice real good for blood pressure)
Frank > UP -- He's so lonely asks Cos for candies even though no good for him either
Pholk > ON DECK -- He's so lonely heads over to the deck to see if anybody is there.
