Children best learn when you mix in some pain with the message you are trying to teach him. Like grab him by the neck, slightly choking him and repeat three times what you want him to learn.

I bought my first computer when I was nine, with the money I earned from playing in 9 concerts in Germany, around Hamburg. So yes, it is possible.
