Polygon pre-order article includes additional information on DLC

Crossroads has no wonders. There are Nepalese, Phoenician, or Bulgarian wonders in the game. It also seems like a very strange lineup for Right to Rule.
Which are the Bulgarian and Phoenician Ones?

[Also Silla and Assyria... supposedly from the Right to Rule Have Unassociated Wonders included]

I, for one, welcome the inevitable Charles Babbage mods (which I welcome, not for misogynist reasons but because I would love to see him in the game alongside Lovelace).

If we want to ruffle some feathers, put in Alan Turing as an official leader down the line :p. Like Friedrich, a greatly respected and accomplished man who was undeniably gay.*

*i am aware that nothing is certain in history, but when it comes to Friedrich it was about as blatant as you can get. People taunted him about it in the newspapers for heaven's sake.

I think a "trustworthy seeming leak" color might be appropriate
Nah, I'm certain this is legite, Firaxis did leak that Vinicunca woud be in the game in their Great People short, and with a live stream schedule about the DLC topic being literally tomorrow, yeah clearly this article was posted by mistake before the right timing

The copium is strong with this one.

Polygon is not my favorite gaming news site, but it's very hard to believe that they would post false information about a release that's just a few weeks away. They didn't say it was a leak, it was posted as plain fact. If a major news outlet had posted false information about their product, don't you think Firaxis would say something about it?

I don't particularly trust Polygon, but the Epic datamine seems pretty solid confirmation.

Wow so Bulgaria? I guess we’re waiting years for Byzantium. In a game centered on the layering of civs! Sigh…

Also aren’t Tarnovo and Carthage already city states? I guess that means that any IP on release could be a civ soon. That’s something at least.

And yeah, where are the wonders?

Carthage already city states
Yes, at least three of them: one in Cyprus (probably same as Kition), one in North Africa, and one in Spain (Cartagena). continues to cry in Phoenician

I find it interesting that Simón Bolívar returned from Civilization VI. Firaxis is full of surprises. This means Gran Colombia will return in the future too.
Let's hope so. I would love that they base it on overall Colombia though (from 1810-present), not just the short period were it was larger aka. Gran Colombia (1819-1831).

The fact that leaders are independent could help with that. We could have a more culture and agriculture centred Colombia instead of a militaristic one this time around.

Colombia (together with Argentina) inspired other Spanish colonies to declare independence and the Colombian Constitution of 1821 served as a blueprint for future constitutions in Latin America. Its also the oldest democracy in the Americas after the USA.

Moreover, Colombia was one of the first places in the New World to establish post-colonial State-run institutions such as schools, universities, museums and research institutes. The oldest museum in North and South America is the National Museum of Colombia, which is even older than the Smithsonian. The First Academy of the Spanish Language outside of Spain was in Colombia and the oldest astronomical observatory in the New World as well.

For those reasons Bogotá was a cultured City-State back in Civ5.

Also, Colombia is one of the major contributors to contemporary Spanish-language pop culture in the world. Colombian music, movies, series, etc. are consumed in Spain, Latin America, the Balkans, Israel, South Korea, Turkey, etc. This, in turn, has made it a significant tourist destination, with more foreign visitors than Brazil or even Perú.

I think it merits to have a future Colombia civilization centred on culture/tourism or whatever similar mechanic exists in the Modern Era.

The Torres del Parque buildings could work as the Wonder building for Colombia.

I'd take it to mean the opposite. Including him now probably means we won't see Gran Colombia (as expected TBH...Gran Colombia was as much an excuse to include Bolivar as Macedon was for Alexander and Sumer was for Gilgamesh).
Let's hope we get to see a Colombia civilization in the future, though, encompassing its wider history and not just the short militaristic period of Gran Colombia. It could focus on culture and agriculture, rather than on militarism, as was the case in Civ6.

I’m assuming Iran isn’t a big (or even any?) market so the selection of the Qajar over the Safavids or Afsharids wont cause Seondok, Kristina, or even Qing levels of outrage, except maybe in LA.

True, but I think Colombia could still appear even without Simón Bolívar's militaristic elements. Mainly to provide the Incas with a good modern successor and because Haciendas are not included in the Mexican design.
I think Mexico also doesn't feature unique cavalry units, which could be similar to Colombian Llaneros, at least in visual terms. Maybe they did that on purpose, or maybe they are saving the unique Latin American cavalry unit for Argentina's Gauchos as well.

I guess I was expected both DLC packs to be released over time. The Polygon article makes it seem like we get all of this stuff at launch. Am I missing something?

As I understand it, the personae will be available at launch, but the other parts will be released over the next month, with Right to Rule being launched over time up to September. It would be a pleasant surprise to be wrong, though.

I’m guessing that’s a typo but I hope not!

Considering that replacing it would probably take someone two minutes of coding, I don't think that's a compelling argument, especially since not everyone will buy Crossroads.

But the Independent People all have character models and small dioramas. So those would probably need to be repurposed somewhere. That's not just 2 minutes of coding.

The dioramas (including the model) are assigned based off of vague geographical region and the City State's yield, they aren't unique for each IP.
