There, but quite recent and primitive.

Yes, and it has been around for a while. Bolt-action rifles are currently in.

Ja. He's not ordinarily very powerful, though (well, a lot depends on how much the Kaiser chooses to relegate to him). More of an instrument.

I will be uploading the majority of (somewhat adjusted) stats to the main thread.

We will decamp en masse to the official thread as soon as everyone feels comfortable.

das, feel free to continue answering questions or supplying corrections here or there.

Is Bengal Christian?

Not very. It's not violently anti-Christian, and missionaries have been making some limited headway in the core areas, but mostly it's Reformed Hindu.

Not in the sense of it being the state religion or a majority religion (yet). It's been gaining ground in Siam Proper quite quickly, though. Siam is the one place where a (somewhat syncretic) "full" Christianisation is possible in Asia right now, though there have been some semi-successful missionary efforts in lots of places including southern China and Indonesia, as well as the aforementioned Bengal.

EDIT: Incidentally, Thlayli, I would not overstate the spread of Christianity in this world. Sure, it has been notably more successful than in OTL; sure the Crusaders won, took a huge bite out of the Muslim world and opened the doors of the Indian Ocean to Christian missionaries who have been much more successful than in OTL; but one should not forget that Siberia and the Incan Empire have hardly been touched by the missionaries at all; that the remaining outposts of Islam are prepared to fight to the end; that there is an ongoing Hindu renaissance, centered on Bengal (incidentally, it's not wholly unlike the OTL Bengali Enlightenment in some regards, with emphasis on removing the more dubious customs and allowing for some caste mobility, but is also notable for trying to create a more canonical form of Hinduism to oppose Christianity (not wholly unlike OTL Shinto), under the supreme control of the ideologically-reinforced state. You might find this interesting); that the form of Christainity that has been spreading in Xin Ming lands is way closer to a more militant version of Pure Land Buddhism than to any western creed; and, ofcourse, Japan, the France of Asia.

EDIT EDIT: Speaking of France, it's a pretty interesting place in its own right. It might seem like a textbook pseudofeudal theocratic dystopia, but, for instance, its religious policies have been quite different from those of Hapsburg Spain; the Moors and French and Spanish Jews have never been expelled, instead being bound to their ghettos that over time received certain freedoms and privileges, and the policy towards converts has been lighter, especially since L'Azyr's reforms after which any Jew or Moor who converted to French Christianity and served in the army for five years or the navy for seven is legally almost a good Frenchman, whereas his children would be able to become dukes if their service warrants it (former "Ultramontanists" are treated somewhat more suspiciously, though, at least if they are considered un-French). The society is very much militarised (again, especially after L'Azyr), which means that anyone (who is) could become nobility and perhaps rise to very high title in exchange for service; differences between titular and military nobility have been eroded to a considerable degree. Ofcourse, there are plenty of Quixotesque impoverished nobles, though they still have various political privileges, forming local councils together with the representatives of chartered urban communes.

The Avignon theology is fairly close to Jansenism in some regards, with a strong added emphasis on the sanctity of royal power (ironic, since the king soon became a puppet himself), the special status of the French people (and those who are "promoted to Frenchmen", ofcourse) and greater reliance on the Old Testament; obviously, the French are Israelites whereas all their neighbours are Canaanites.

Not quite; its entire eastern border should be extend further east, not just the southern corner.

I won't, overstate it, das, thanks.

The current version of the map has Portuguese borders corrected and makes vassal/puppet relationships more clear, I believe, but NK has yet to give it to me.

This is one NES that definitely needs an ethnicity map.

While we're on religion, is there anything in particular that separates the non-Unitate Church from the Unitate Church aside from the obvious fact that one's in Communion with Rome but the other isn't?

Okay pardon my idiocy, but would this still make either 1848-1863 Frederik VII or 1863-1906 Christian IX the current monarch of Denmark as in OTL or should I just make it up and begin making stories? Also who would said monarch be married to or not at all?

I understand that with all these changes people may or may not exist, but just trying to clarify.

Since the likelihood of the same person being born and in charge of Denmark after over a millennium of divergence is somewhere around nil, I'd say you can just make up a dude.

Thats what I figured, but just thought I'd check. Either way off to the story drawing board.

EDIT - Oh and I would like knowledge of which royal families are closely intertwined, i.e. which monarchs are married to which royal lines.

EDIT2 - I also like the idea of keeping this thread alive for the OOC questions. Kinda like how BJ did his recently.

And thanks Thlayli and das for this wonderful setup!

What caused the religious break between the Anglican and the Roman Catholic Church and what is the status of the schism now?

What is the religious composition of New Albion?

How large is the influx of immigration from Europe and Mexica to Arcadia as compared to OTL at this time?

Is there yet a transcontinental North American railroad? What about the status of rails in general?

The Non-Uniate Church is strongly dominated, though not outright controlled, by the ruler of Chernigov. There are various linguistic and theological differences. There is the filioque clause (Uniates added it, Non-Uniates haven't). All in all, over time, the Uniate Church has become very close to the Roman Catholic Church, being simply a privileged, autonomous branch with Greek Rite; the Non-Uniate Church is somewhat closer to (an idealised picture of) earlier Byzantine Orthodoxy plus various local weirdness like the two-fingered sign of the cross (not all that close to the OTL Old Believers in most other regards, though). Also, somewhat different pantheons of saints.

It's something of a taboo topic, and happened seven years ago... Mostly it was general debauchery, highly-dubious "friends", one of whom was, as it turned out, on a Danish payroll, Crowley-style occultism (actually, probably the source of the problems in this case) and, finally, a fatal overdose after which ignoring the elephant in the room became impossible. The current heir is much more decent, though, or so it seems.

For Dachs' edification, I forwarded that part of Masada's answered questions to Dachs, but none of the rest. I can send you the rest if you like, as Montferrat and the HRE are allied.

That's up to Masada, isn't it? ;)

What caused the religious break between the Anglican and the Roman Catholic Church and what is the status of the schism now?

A religious "awakening" in Arcadia Proper plus the fall of England to the French in the 18th century which could not help but cause a crisis of identity. King Arthur III's meddling did not help. There have been various other disagreements over the past few centuries, but now they actually led to a complete break-off and the establishment of a state-controlled Anglican Church centered in Arcadia. It's not all that irreconcilably different in matters of organisation and theology with the modern Roman Catholic Church, but by now what differences there are have been fortified and an alternate, centralised ecclesiastical hierarchy has been established; politically, a reunion seems unlikely at the moment.

What is the religious composition of New Albion?

Highly mixed, what with the Asian immigrants; predominantly Roman Catholic, though.

How large is the influx of immigration from Europe and Mexica to Arcadia as compared to OTL at this time?

Not much from Mexico; as for Europe, I'd say proportionally it was much larger in the 18th century, given have many people fled during and in the aftermath of the Fifty Years War; on the other hand, it comparatively trickled down during the 19th century, though there have been occasional new waves, and overall the migrations are increasing again now in the aftermath of the crisis of Pax Germanica.

Is there yet a transcontinental North American railroad?

No.

What about the status of rails in general?

Steam trains, naturally. Most European nations and the Pax Germanica have their own railroad lines, connecting their most important cities at the least (Pax Germanica and Arcadia are more developed in this regard, though; France of all nations has been catching up). Also present in the more developed colonies; not as yet adapted in Japan despite some proposals; a minor railroad between the capital and an imperial residence in the countryside has been built in Xin Ming as something of a prototype.

-Any major fortified areas (or, God forbid, fortified lines) in Europe? Where might they be, and of what nature (quality of fortresses, dispersion style, and so forth)?
-Is there any sort of national representative body (I assume it has at best limited powers) for the Reich, and if so, what are the powers that it has, the franchise to which it is open, and its composition by ideology and special interest group?
-Are there any remaining internal tariff barriers within the Reich?
-How is taxation handled in the Reich - levied as normal states do, or is it levied from subordinate rulers who in turn impose taxation on their subjects?
-What is the differentiation between the regular Imperial government and that in Livland and Estland?
-How the devil did bloody Fulda get so important again? It's such a dump.
-Are the qualities of the Reichsgeneralstab of the HRE and the OTL Prussian-German Großer Generalstab comparable - in terms of staffwork, cooperation with railroad authorities, and operational and strategic level leadership?

Oh so it's not as bad as I thought it was...it sounded like it was the current heir from the way it was described, and I was ranting about how the original one had lacked the decency to commit suicide...

Quite.

I've shown Dachs the relevant stuff, the rest is irrelevant to our alliance.

I could do with a few young German lads with unlimited credit to underwrite my economy for the next few years... anymore of them lying around? :p

-Any major fortified areas (or, God forbid, fortified lines) in Europe? Where might they be, and of what nature (quality of fortresses, dispersion style, and so forth)?

There are some strategically-positioned individual fortresses on the Flemish and Imperial sides of the French border, generally well-maintained and up-to-date. Not much else as far as modern fortifications go, though.

-Is there any sort of national representative body (I assume it has at best limited powers) for the Reich, and if so, what are the powers that it has, the franchise to which it is open, and its composition by ideology and special interest group?

The Reichstag has extensive legislative powers, but is subject to the Kaiser's veto; notably, it doesn't have much in the way of budget powers. Universal (adult male) suffrage has been introduced in recent reforms as a concession to various pressures. It is divided between the moderately-reformist authoritarian monarchists (Kaiserists; a comparatively new party, incidentally), the conservative-minded Liberals, the even more conservative-minded, traditional aristocratic Rightists (Rechtists, actually) and, ofcourse, the Arbeitists, who are numerous and bitterly divided into smaller informal factions. Ofcourse, the other parties are neither monolithic nor always opposed to each other, and the party system in the HRE has only recently consolidated into something remotely like an OTL political party system.

-Are there any remaining internal tariff barriers within the Reich?

No.

-How is taxation handled in the Reich - levied as normal states do, or is it levied from subordinate rulers who in turn impose taxation on their subjects?

The former, except in Ostland.

-What is the differentiation between the regular Imperial government and that in Livland and Estland?

There are some weird local leftover laws and customs, and much more in the way of feudal remnants. Ultimately the supreme authority lies with the appointed governor of Ostland; the imperial government there is even less democratic than in other parts of the Reich, partly by tradition and partly due to military considerations.

-How the devil did bloody Fulda get so important again? It's such a dump.

Evidently not in this world! :D

-Are the qualities of the Reichsgeneralstab of the HRE and the OTL Prussian-German Großer Generalstab comparable - in terms of staffwork, cooperation with railroad authorities, and operational and strategic level leadership?

Comparable, but not necessarily favourably, especially with regards to the operational level and the railroads.

-How's our NCO quality?

Very high quality, actually.

-Do we use the Pickelhaube? Why not?

No. Somehow it never caught on here.

Oh so it's not as bad as I thought it was...it sounded like it was the current heir from the way it was described, and I was ranting about how the original one had lacked the decency to commit suicide...

It's possible that it was suicide, actually. Sort of. He was reportedly planning on being reborn as an infinitely superior metaphysical being beyond all human comprehension and limitation.
