English - zee
Spanish - theta
French - zed

...there's already another letter for theta! The word "zee/zed/zete/whatever" comes from the greek letter ZETA, not THETA.

Zee, you see.

In the Spanish spoken in Spain, the letter "z" is called "theta".

When it is part of a word, it is pronounced "th".

umm.... no... it's called zeta.
well, that's what i learned in school.
That's because in all spanish-speaking countries (except Spain) it's pronounced zeta.

I use "zeta" but find "theta" better for when I have to know if the word is spelled with a "z" or a "s" since they both sound so alike.

Crosspost with Trajan :)

I've never heard Zed before.

The problem is that there is already a letter for theta - θ. Zeta is derived from a different letter.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy!

"Zed Zed 9 Plural Zed Alpha."

It was also in the movie "Shaun of the Dead."

And I heard it once today, while on a conference call with my Indian coworkers in Pune.

Those three instances might be the only times I've heard it used in the English language.

Norwegian: Zett or Zætt
English: Zee

zed.

all the way. except zayiin in hebrew.

While I've always said Zed like a good little canuck, I always had a problem with the way it clashed in the alphabet song

(with music) Que, Are, Ess, Tee, You, Vee, Double-You, Ex, Why and ZED

It's obviously "zee"! Those darn Canadians don't know their alphabet from "ay" to "zed"
