Random Rants ΠΓ': Parental guidance required

Rant: A bad sector showed up on my old hard drive (the one from my last computer) and it caused my system to freeze up earlier when the automatic defragment hit it. I got it fixed with chkdsk thankfully.

The Full House was a horcrux, and also a Room of Requirement.

[etc.]
I think @MaryKB just won the thread. Ever since I've been following the Rant threads, I don't think I've seen such a perfectly random example, and I have no idea what it's about.

(I'm guessing some TV show I've never watched, or even heard of?)
Roommate is having three people stay for a week "or so." I was informed of this approximately ten minutes before their arrival.
But aren't you the primary tenant, i.e. Don't you get final say on this, given that it's your name on the lease, and hence your responsibility if anything goes south? Or am I mis-remembering?

Either way, definitely inform your landlord in writing and ASAP, emphasising that this (allegedly temporary) arrangement was made without your prior knowledge or agreement.

This kind of thing makes me think there should be a law or something that says all individuals who are listed as tenants or whose name is on a mortgage should have to unanimously agree to any visitors who will be staying more than 24 hours.

It looks like the fault that caused Boeing's Starliner space capsule to fail to get to the ISS was that it did not properly clock sync between all the subsystems. I hope my programming friends realize how monumentally dumb this is. Arguably worse than Lockheed cratering a lander on Mars because they used the wrong units in calculations since clock sync is such a basic, central computer function.

It turns out if it is Boeing, you're not going.
(playing off their stupid slogan, If it's not Boeing, I'm not going)

Deep Impact was lost because of a time-formatting bug causing an integer overflow.

Rant: My hands and feet are constantly cold. I feel silly wearing socks inside a heated house.

EDIT: I posted in the wrong thread. :undecide:

I have the heat on! And the rest of me is warm enough. :crazyeye:

I have the heat on and socks on. This is true for about half the year. For the other half I have the heating off and socks on.

My feet are purple!!!

I took them off because I had an itch.

My hands and feet are cold from October through March whether or not the heat is on. I wear a fingerless glove on my mouse hand whenever I'm at my computer. My wife prefers a cooler house.

What do you wear on your other hand?

Nothing. My right seems to get colder because it is "glued" to the mouse most of the time. My left hand is cold too, but not as cold.

Rant: While cleaning out my files I somehow dug up a 2.5 GB .sql file with no inkling what it is.

Dragged open my bookmarks file to look for something to open it. Unfortunately everything I tried either a) ran out of memory trying to open it (32-bit), b) could only connect to a database, not open it from a file, or c) only did SQLite.

Notepad++ refused to open it because it was too big. Large Text File Viewer outright crashed. Supposedly EmEditor can open huge files so I'm going to try the free version.

First-world problem I know.

Ultraedit is good with large files, but I don't know if there's a free version or a trial
