Random Rants ΠΕ': You're standing on my neck.

'Who cares if some people die as long as my guards get paid' is a rather douchey thing to say, no matter what words you use to say it.

And my guards are screwed if they close the building for weeks or months. Is the mayor going to pay their rent or buy their groceries?
Then the problem is that the legislation hangs them out to dry instead of paying them their wages as is lawful and proper outside the U.S. of A.

Commodore's guards and tons of other workers not getting paid when things shut down is absolutely a problem, but the solution isn't "force everything to stay open so they can keep working," it's "close things, and give them some goddamn paid sick leave"

Grocery store's online ordering has been down for two days now.

My local supermarket had about a one-week delay for home delivery this time yesterday (bad, but not ridiculous). Come early evening, it had somehow stretched to over two weeks!

The flu has a vaccine though.

People overreact to things constantly, which requires zero conspiracy to understand, but it is in part indeed manufactured, given the news that the Chinese authorities attempted to conceal the nature of the outbreak at the start and thus allowed it to spread more than necessary at the early critical stages.

Rant: There's an advertisement on the radio with a shrieking child. :wallbash:

Who are the ones dying though? It's the same type of people that die from the flu and other diseases. So again, in that context, what makes this virus more worthy of causing societal shutdowns than other viral outbreaks? There have been far deadlier outbreaks (in terms of mortality rate, not absolute numbers) in recent history that didn't cause nearly as big of a panic. That's what makes this whole thing seem like a manufactured crisis.

The elderly and sickly are doing almost all of the dying.

Coronavirus has the ability to spread fast even before symptoms appear, unlike SARS and MERS.
It is wimpy enough not to take seriously at first, but strong enough to wreak havoc by quickly filling up ICU's with people who take a long time to recover.

Swine flu puts maybe 1% of people in the hospital.

Coronavirus puts around 20% of people in the hospital.
It is stealthy.
It is a medical system killer.

SARS and MERS killed people like crazy, but at least only obviously sick people could spread it.

Yes, the media are shrieking far more than normal because a Republican is President, but that is always the case.

Keep in mind that countries around the world, even the Communists, are reacting just as strongly or more than we are.
Are all of them part of a manufactured crisis? :hmm:

I know it feels fake right now since hardly anyone knows someone infected, and shutting down only slows this thing down, but the extra weeks to make more testing kits, prepare hospitals, inch closer to warmer weather, and do more research will all be a big help.

As for when we can turn everything back on again?
I'm not sure.

Moderator Action: Let's keep the Covid-19 discussion in the thread that has been made for it, please. Thank you.

And my guards are screwed if they close the building for weeks or months. Is the mayor going to pay their rent or buy their groceries? Same goes for the janitors who would also be screwed. That's why facilities is also arguing strongly against closure.

But hey, I guess it doesn't matter if a few of the poors get screwed over so you can have a hospital bed right?

And no, we aren't all screwed. This virus isn't nearly as lethal as the hysteria would have you believe, even without getting any treatment.
Welcome to the new Trump economy: if you are poor you are screwed. Trump has signed off on the House legislation that does include paid sick leave. You and your team are just a small part of the picture.

@Lemon Merchant thank you. I was hoping someone would come along and....quarantine....it soon. (Sorry I really couldn't resist)

Rant: My knees hurt. :(

Assclown has been giving it to us for three years. Welcome, newly economically fudged. Rope' s complimentary. Check barns in Wisconsin and Iowa.

But I'm already wearing normal glasses

They make these cool ones that go over!

But then everything would turn dark.
