Random Rants 0x52: [Obligatory rant about title]

I realize now that my values are not as stringent for myself as I used to believe. I have now undergone 2 cosmetic procedures (had a large, unsightly mole on the back of my head removed despite it being completely benign, and had Lasik laser eye surgery a week ago) when I used to say I would never waste resources on any and have repeatedly (in the last) derided the insecurity/shallowness of cosmetic surgery. I also realized how shallow I am.

I'm guessing it's (a lot) easier to find one in some areas than others (more frequent in coastal vs. midwest cities/ states?), but also that they're still a relative rarity per capita, compared to the UK -- and possibly even Europe in general*.
This is accurate.

As for the quality, at least around here (west coast), my Indian coworkers tell me the food sold in the restaurants is close to what you'd find in India but with less variety and for some dishes, a bit more sugar. They are far less Americanized than Chinese restaurants, for example.

I don't feel that you're shallow ... at the very least, you're trying to improve your self-esteem through your self-image. I find most people that complain about what other people are doing because of their own insecurities: like putting someone down for getting cosmetic surgery done because the person complaining can't afford it and is bitter. I feel that your emotional health is every bit as important as your physical health, and sometimes that involves doing things someone else might think are "frivolous."

I feel a better lesson here, rather than putting yourself down, is to learn not to judge other people: just because you don't value something someone else does, or because you'd make a different decision, doesn't mean that person is wrong or in some way damaged for making her or his choices. Maybe your life situation will change one day, and you'll find yourself in that person's position.

Rant: The worst pain is gone but I'm tired now.

When you get cosmetic surgery you are giving the doctors practice to do a good and convincing job when they have to repair serious trauma and burns.

A friend of mine got lasik and a nose job and he has referred to both has the best decisions he has ever made.

I’m not a big fan myself of the idea but I’ve warmed up a lot to it.

A guy couple decades older than myself was pulling with a cable attached to a tractor in the 80s. When the cable broke and snapped back like a metal whip, it passed through the side of his face destroying one eye and partially destroying the eye socket. This was in the closing days of when they still taught kids the number to their local police, fire department, and doctor's office, 911 not integrated everywhere nationwide. They took him to the nearest village doctor*, of mixed reputation, largely due to his bedside manner. This doctor made the first treatment, loaded him on the ambulance when he was done, and shipped him off to the hospital. Which didn't alter his work at all other than to maintain it, it was at least as good as they could do. People had a habit of forgetting their local doctor started out with the military in Korea, he had done trauma before.

I'm going to guess most of their work is cosmetic these days, but practice does make perfect.

*Sort of hard to imagine still having those. They're gone.

This year I am not, unfortunately. Used it as a generic example.

The big spider is probably still in here. There’s a giant gecko most likely under my bed. There’s also a beetle that just snuck in. I cannot wait for my window screens to return. They were removed for cleaning.

Perhaps they will eat each other.

Perhaps they will strike an alliance and attack.

If Hygro suddenly stops posting, we'll find out which!

You've ruled out the possibility of one of them defeating the other and then marching on to defeat Hygro himself, possibly taking over his forum account.

Check the call history on your phone. It is possible that the spider or the gecko has been sneaking it to order take out from the beetle place down the road.

Rant: Don't get constipation.

:ack:
