Random Rants #63: These Rants Don't Run

except I have rationale:

you see, for some odd reason, all Bulgarian TV stations decided to repeat Friends during the afternoon weekend, rending it impossible to watch

I, a notorious Americanophobe generally (at least as far as TV is concerned), used to enjoy Friends.

Especially that bit with the chick (an actually chicken chick, not the female human sort), and the man in shorts in the coffee shop. And the nude guy in the appartment opposite.

And that business with the elbows.

And the car.

Rant, Silver is trying to break through $18/oz

On a night like this I just want to lie in a field of grass with someone who's a pretty cool lad or lass and just stare up at the stars. Alas I've got no one to do it with and screw doing it alone.

Call me up next time. :p

I remember that.

The shortness of British TV shows is almost worth a rant.
Peep Phow finished this year after nine seasons, and that still only amounts to 2,25 seasons of Friends.
And the jefflessness of the final season of Coupling is also almost worth a rant.

It's the coldest spring for 30 years!

And it's knackering my garden plans. How can I get my tomato plants and runner beans out in the ground when it's like this, for goodness sake?

Pour hot water onto the soil?

That's certainly a possibility, and one that I have tried in past years. But the amount of hot water you have to pour to have even a negligible effect on the temperature has to be enormous. And I can only afford the odd kettle full.

A slightly better option is covering the ground with black plastic in order to encourage warming by the sun.

But this doesn't work so well if most of the time it's raining.

Honestly, I need the day-time temperature to be up around 15C and reliably so.

At the moment it's hovering round the 10 to 11 mark.

I have hopes that the following week will be better.

Pick and spade, I suggest, unless you have a plough.
