Random Rants 76: Argh! Augh! Ahhh!

I think the Irvings own all the media over in New Brunswick, too.

Here's another rant: Some errant PHP script is causing 500 server errors and I've been up all night puzzling over errorlogs and PuTTY terminals. Because now that I have some useful logging set up, the error's not happening anymore.

I'm not going to question it.

EDIT: I killed all the existing PHP processes to make sure the logging worked properly. Maybe one of them was stuck in a loop. That's my best guess for the time being.

EDIT: Errors are back. Submitted a ticket to the webhost. I need sleep.

once again randomware , once again ı discard 3 USB drives , once again the day's downloads are lost . What ı did learn ? Nothing . What will these people learn ? That when stuff happens to them the world will not brave stuff to help them . Ah yes , keep ignoring , please keep ignoring . What might happen after all ?

Downgrading the site to PHP 7.1 seems to have stopped the reoccuring errors (we'll see), but results in some weird depreciation issues. Sheesh, this is frustrating.

If I were you I'd consider keeping that information secret.
Yikes. I'd thought that sort of thing to be a relic of the system we had here that saw perfectly competent people thrown into the system for reasons that were for the benefit of everyone except the individual concerned.
I actually forgot to quote aimee, i.e. she should keep the information that some of her mother's threats are actually empty because they are based on repealed legislation secret from her mother, lest the mother actually actively search and find ‘solutions’ that actively work.
My aunt live in Nova Scotia for a while, she said that Irving owns the coast. The only concern of the provincial government is to serve the Irving group of companies.

Bloody hell.

Bloody hell.
As long as she can demonstrate that she is mentally competent to make her own decisions (ie. medical and financial) - something we here all know she can do, based on what she's mentioned concerning her health and steps taken to set up a separate bank account, I can't imagine that her mother would have a legal leg to stand on in that regard.

Of course that doesn't stop some people from trying anyway. One of the nurses in the hospital during my recent stay told me I should move to an assisted living facility... then wondered why I told her off. I do need help, but I'm not ready to move in with the 80-year-olds.

I thought when you said "keep that information secret" you meant I should delete it. I'm not always the smartest.

Anyways, a new rant: the whole "Bell Let's Talk" campaign bothers me for multiple reasons:
- Of course they have to inject their company name in.
- They say that they're going to donate 5 cents for every text on their network and social media post made. It's like a big chain store asking you to donate a dollar at the checkout. They can easily afford it themselves but make it dependent on the common people.
- They're getting a tax write-off for this too, I bet.
- They say the money donated will be going to "mental health." No specific organizations. What's to say they don't make up their own organization which funnels the money back into the company to pay for "awareness"?
- Also, the whole awareness thing. It bothers me. Put the money into research. It'll go to better use.
- Last of all, Bell doesn't actually give a damned about mental health.

Ergh. Rant over.

Tumblr's new theme makes it feel like someone is trying to sear my eyes.

The contrast is a bit high.

I recently saw a pretty horrific site. It wouldn't even load when I had Javascript disabled (yes, I know, NoScript's a thing). Took a look at the source code out of habit. It was pretty horrific. I think the craziest thing (aside from the spaghetti javascript) is that they were only using 2-3 fonts at most but were loading at least thirty different ones from Google's font api.

I think the site was hosted by Wix, which explains things.

Still better than this

I'm not too smart at times. While doing some troubleshooting I absent-mindedly disabled all of Joomla's user authentication plugins and locked myself out of the backend. I was able to fix it by re-enabling it in the database.

Everybody gets to make a slip now and then. But that doesn't make you an idiot.

The webhost is being kind of iffy about things. They said that their procwatch daemon killed off the PHP process because it was eating up too much memory (which makes no sense when I investigated with SSH's top command), and kind of pushed towards using a VPS. Which the site owner really can't afford.

Another oddity is that the errors only happen when the site's on PHP 7.2. If I downgrade to 7.1 it works fine. Investigating some more. I probably won't get any sleep tonight.

I figured it out! It was an extension that wasn't really compatible with 7.2. For some reason I missed it the first time I went through.

It's not really essential to the site operation so I disabled it and the site's back to its normal zippy self. I'll ask the site owner if she wants me to find a replacement.

I feel almost smart now.

EDIT: Actually, it was two separate extensions causing the issues. No wonder I missed it that first time.

Nah, if i was actually smart I would've figured out the issue a bunch earlier.

Ace Combat 7 unlocks on Steam in "approximately six hours".

Give yourself credit. You figured the thing out, which is not a thing that most people can do. Debugging PHP is kind of a niche skill. And it wasn't a race.

You did well.
