Critics universally liking a film that audiences didn't much care for means that they're part of the liberal elite? Do you simply not understand how self-sampling works?

I'll give 5 to 1 odds that those polls were swarmed by dudes on Reddit so that unsuspecting people could make the exact post MW just made

Imagine thinking Rotten Tomatoes is the righteous indicator of a liberal conspiracy

You mean to say, literally every single one that isn't explicitly right-wing.

You don't think that the audience for a film about AOC's election isn't disproportionately liberal?

If anything, Rotten Tomatoes is artificially keeping the poll down. Were you not around for the Captain Marvel fiasco, or what?

That's...exactly the point Arakhor is making

No, that undermines Arakhor's argument that the critical score is a result of liberal critics wanting to watch a liberal movie. The audience is going to self-select as well.

There's no liberal elite in media, it's our persecution complex speaking (seriously though, the second one makes me angry).

I’m guessing you didn’t watch Chappelle then?

It's the only stand-up I've ever given a whole hour for. :gripe:

(Ticking off the apparatchik media isn't enough for that, believe me.)

There is no reason to suppose the people who have voted in the poll there have even seen the film.

And if the audience is liberal too that sort of undermines your argument about a "liberal media elite"

Age of Spin was funnier, but eh, as far as stand up goes this one seemed alright.

You should watch Age of Spin all the way through if you found Sticks and Stones uniquely tolerable. If you like him after that one, work backwards to his show and see if you like that.

Don't know anything about the Oscasio-Cortez one, watched a couple youtube things by her a while back and checked out. Other people can probably let you know better about its merits, assuming you like me have no interest in watching a politi-drama. Angry Birds 2 was surprisingly funny, I thought, as a tip.

AOC has haters everywhere. Good point.
I misread especially seeing the follow up convo.
In fact I misread exactly in the way that drives me nuts in that I didn’t absorb the information, then made an assumption in its place, then made an assumption about you, then reacted to that like it was what you posted.

Rotten Tomatoes says that only verified ticket buyers can rate movies, and they have every incentive to quash genuine right-wing votebombing.

And if the audience is liberal too that sort of undermines your argument about a "liberal media elite"

How does it, exactly? Even a liberal audience doesn't like the movie, but the critics uniformly march in lockstep saying it was fantastic?

To be clear, the argument was not "all liberals are media elites".

I don't get it. It's not uncommon for critical and popular opinions to differ. So just because the movie happens to be about an election means that its part of a persecution complex or something?

If liberal audiences and liberal critics disagree on the movie it tells me something other than politics is at play.

It's possible from that one example to suppose that critical snobbery is the factor here, but my point was that the dissonance seems to take the opposite form when it comes to conservative works.

But that's just two movies. That's not a big sample size.

So @Mouthwash I love the Ben Stiller/Owen Wilson version of Starsky & Hutch, but critics don't like it...what is this evidence of?

Rant: Eating chocolate on hot days isn't such a good idea. It melted all over my hands and I had to go wash them afterwards.

Critics and audiences didn't like John Carter but I loved it. The clear takeaway is that ...... critics and audiences are biased against Taylor Kitsch in a leather loincloth and harness?
