Random Rants 80: Computer Says No

Rant: I hate it when I have to talk to my mother. She plays the TV so loud I can barely hear myself think and then refuses to turn it down even though she knows I physically can't talk very loud. Then she ignores me half the time and then gets mad when I ask if she even heard me.

Then she wonders why I don't like talking to her. :crazyeye:

Moving back to Missouri is a bad option because Missouri sucks. But yes, worst case I do have an out.
Apologies. For some reason I thought your boyfriend was in Idaho and that's why you moved out there. How's the long distance thing working?

Rant: My bike is screwed. Turns out I couldn't adjust the brakes properly because the wheels need to be trued (eliminate wobbliness). The wheels are wobbly because half of the back spokes are broken (they stayed in place so I didn't notice they had broken and never thought to check them). The bike shop asked if the dealer I bought the bike from told me I needed to take it back in after a couple of months of riding to adjust the tension in the spokes to stop them from breaking - they definitely did not tell me that. None of this was anything I ever thought to check on or had ever been told before. The bike is in such bad shape they told me not to ride it home for safety so I walked it a couple miles back.

I'm a little peeved that you have to 'break in' a bike and adjust it like you used to have to do with cars 60 years ago. Then again, when I started riding it, I was definitely at the extreme end of rider weight and probably still am. Plus, I didn't just start riding it for a twenty minutes at a stretch on pleasure rides - I immediately started going for 5-15 mile, multi-hour rides 4 or 5 days a week and was aggressively leaning into turns and zig zagging across the bike path for lulz so I beat the crap out of it.

At least they didn't charge me to diagnose the issue and when they thought they only needed to true the wheels, they were going to adjust the brakes afterward for free since truing is a bit more expensive than just adjusting the brakes.

Yikes. How much does getting another bike cost?

That's specific.

I hope that's not too expensive.

Well it looks like it'll be around $150-200 but browsing there website makes me believe they don't even sell the wheel I need. I contacted customer service but they won't be open until Monday.

I ordered two turkey breakfast sandwiches from the grocery store and they gave me breakfast sandwiches with prosciutto instead.

Today I learned that prosciutto is super gross.

The bacon they used could hardly be called bacon as well.

I think this is the first time that I've removed the meat instead of the veggies from a sandwich.
Please explain the highlighted statement.
Well it will have to wait. My latest rant is involving that indie college football game I've been "playing". I put that in quotations because I haven't actually gotten to play it yet since I'm still turning all the generic teams into real life teams.

My rant though involves the custom logo editor in the game. It's a great tool that is simple to use, but still gives you everything you need to be able to quickly make real life teams logos. However, the game only gives you 50 slots for saving custom logos. This is a problem because there are 130 teams and a lot of them have two logos, one for their midfield logo and another one that goes on their helmets. So 50 slots is nowhere near enough slots for logos.
I suppose that there must be a way to mod it. Perhaps modify the base files via trial and error, or tinker around with settings files.

Your explanation is so far insufficient, but I am interested in exchanging pork products for Brussels sprouts.

Nope, it's a console only title so no modding. The devs have said they are considering adding more slots in an update, but actual gameplay issues will take priority so it might be a while before they get to it.

So they're focusing on bugs that you haven't got to yet.

Yeah. Which is a good thing because there are some pretty bad issues with the AI from what I've seen in gameplay videos. For example, the AI defense can't seem to handle a QB draw play which guarantees you at least 12 yards per play. And no matter how many times in a row you run that play, the AI never adjusts to it.

I cannot help you then. :/

x-post edit: scripted AI bots can be a pain. If you learn exactly how to break their system it gets ridiculous and the only onus is on you to execute the perfect routine, so any improvements on that are welcome in games.

Rant: My XCOM game just CTD'ed on me ! ... it was right after I landed a wonderful shot on 3 chryssalids with rocket launcher ! :gripe: ... halfway through an assault on an alien base .... :twitch: and last save is (yeah You've guessed it) - right at the beginning of that mission

Rant: I have a sentence that I just can't get phrased right.

What did the grocery store staff say when you complained? (you did make a complaint, right?)

I get most of my groceries delivered (the order is phoned in). The store branch I used to order from closed this summer and my account was moved to a different branch. Some of the staff moved there as well, but the ones who are new to me are learning what I will and won't accept when what I receive is not the same as what I ordered. I informed the staff that yes, it does matter which variety of the food item they send, because I have certain allergies, or there are things I can't have because of other medical issues. And there are some that I just don't like. If there are discrepancies, I expect them to fix it, and if that means the delivery person making another trip the next day, so be it.

This also applies to items that are ripped open. The manager actually expected me to accept an 8 kg bag of cat food that had a big hole somewhere around the middle. I told him no, I would not accept it, because I didn't have enough containers to store 8 kg of cat food at the same time, and leaving it as is would result in A. the cat getting into it, and B. insects getting into it, and C. it wouldn't stay fresh.

Rant: I have a sentence that I just can't get phrased right.
Is it a grammatical problem, or one of finding the right words to convey action or emotion?

A bit of both. I have it sorted out now I think.

Rant: My legs hurt so badly that I can't sleep.
