I think the headline-worthy bit is the one about the meteor shower?CNN headline today: October night skies bring full moon and meteor shower
How on earth is "there will be a full moon this month" a news headline?
I think movement is often caused by unbalanced loads during spin cycles. When in its cycle does it walk or jump around? If you're not into gaming (yes, it can, but only a smaller, but growing part), and you're not reliant on MS Office, then going for a common Linux distribution is really not complicated.
Most people anyways use their computer for a) browsing the internet -> works perfectly b) potentially storing and looking pictures -> works perfectly and c) office related functions -> LibreOffice works pretty well, unless you need to interface with someone who has very specific MS office needs.
So for anyone who does only this, and doesn't want to spend money on Windows, then Kubuntu (or Ubuntu, I just prefer this interface) is in the meantime a solid alternative, I'd say.
I'm also a computer scientist, and much of my software only runs on Linux. I'd not get Windows on my computer anymore, if I have the choice.
Next rant:
The washing machine shortened my electricity. Had to call the landlord because I couldn't find the fuses, and he didn't know exactly either, so had to wait. Turns also out that the washing machine was moving so badly, it hammered a pretty decent hole into one of the underlying tiles o_O.
Ah...September of this year is 3 weeks past. If you can really time travel back to September, I'd go with you.A friend of mine will go to a Snoop Dogg concert in September this year, heard about that on Tuesday. Tried to buy today a standing ticket, it's sold out. Some seats are still available, but then I'd be alone
.
I take it you don't know anyone else who would want to go?Sorry, *next year.
I take it you don't know anyone else who would want to go?
I don't actually get why not having a date or friend along would mean you'd give up a chance at a seat. I realize concerts are usually more fun with a friend, but it's still possible to enjoy them alone.*
Conversations can be wonderful here, or there can be times when you really want to scream at somebody for starting the dozenth thread about pizza toppings, or revive an old argument that should have been settled a decade ago.My current time on civfanatics forums hasn't been the best, I expected more - the site is capable of more.
I felt overshadowed by a group of people's opinions, I felt rather unequal.
I'd stick around but I find the threat of being mauled in petty uprising against my intellect disturbing.

Some people drift in and out, sometimes for offline reasons, or because something or someone annoys them.
As with any forum community, there's an unwritten set of customs, and a history among certain posters that can entertain or annoy, depending on your point of view and tolerance for certain posting styles.
You haven't been here very long, certainly not long enough to witness one of those epic pizza toppingargumentsdiscussions. It's practically a rite of passage.
Or maybe you haven't found your niche yet. Some of us here in OT came here for very different reasons in the beginning. I started out in Civ II: ToT and still drop by that area of the board every so often. There's always somebody who hasn't figured out some of the weird strategies that work in that game.![]()
Female. I'm actually the most consistently-present of the female OT regulars who have been around over the years, and have weathered numerous instances of some people deciding that because I'm a woman, my opinions don't matter, or I'm automatically wrong. There were a few instances of "You can't be a girl. Girls don't play Civ." (Oh, yes, we do; the person who taught me to play Civ II was a woman 20 years older than me, and she learned from her daughter). I remember a thread in which there was a conversation about modest swimwear for Muslim women. I offered my opinion (I was the only woman in the conversation) and was promptly told to "mind your own business."I like your style, I mean it. Are you a female? Not meant rudely- I don't care if you're male.
Different forums have different customs - different cultures, if you will. Things that are okay here may not be okay somewhere else, and vice versa. It takes time to learn the written and unwritten rules. If there's something you're not sure about, it's always okay to ask someone about it.I'm a male, and when people get aggressive with me I tend to get aggressive back.
I feel it's biased toward a particular group so if I was to respond aggressively to what I consider aggression or perversity(molestering(annoying, disturbing) me), I'd be punished with a ban. Further aggravation.
Of course I don't know what issues you've run into here, and it's best to keep that in PM anyway, because of PDMA rules. But FWIW, I prefer having a defined set of rules, rather than being at the mercy of the staff's whim (been there, done that, quit the forum because I really don't enjoy being verbally abused for no reason other than the admin got up on the wrong side of the bed that morning and decided to take it out on somebody).I find that repulsive.
Wishing you the best of luck, and those who find sanctuary here. My mind can't handle it.

It can be. I used to make homemade pizza and used fruit cocktail as a topping one time (well-drained, so the crust wouldn't get soggy). It worked fine as an experiment, though it was certainly not my personal favorite. The reason I tried it was because I was having some company over, and one of the people required a cheeseless pizza and had a few other food issues besides. So I tried fruit, and she was happy with it.It's not a dessert!
(see @Varde, verbal jousting is a regular thing here, but it does not usually go overboard).
