I'll stick around.

The inspiring documentary on pizza toppings debate seems to be within my jest.

You should, OT needs fresh blood like you. The place would be endlessly more entertaining with a dozen or so.

"Monsieur Moiron, who was a teacher in the north of France, enjoyed an excellent reputation throughout the whole country".
I don't think it's a good idea to take candy from complete strangers. Maybe most in the US live in small suburbs where you know most other people and they are accountable, but in general this can lead to tragedy.
Monsieur Moiron, the teacher, is a character in a short story by Guy de Maupassant. He fed the children candy which had inside it tiny pieces of glass.
With covid, it might be an even worse idea. I'd imagine that serial killers with some basic knowledge of chemistry can get away far more easily in the current state of affairs, when it's so easy to blame most things on covid or vaccines.
when one writes a story one can make up whatever one wants to happen. I could even write a story about traveling back in time! If one wants to criticize Halloween for being dangerous, there are lots of real life stories. People can be mean and cruel just as they can be kind.

American news makes me anxious and depressed. Of course I am susceptible to my own biases, but maybe it’s best that I just shut it off for a while.

Uh-huh.

Rage, in this case. I had no idea that the flag on Parliament Hill has been lowered since May and the Prime Minister is NEGOTIATING with the indigenous community for PERMISSION to raise it by Remembrance Day so it can be lowered on Remembrance Day, as protocol calls for.

This is ridiculous. No other group of people would get away with dictating flag protocol.

The CBC news site initially allowed comments about this, but then decided to censor them and close the article.

Well, the whole thing reminds me more and more of the 80's and 90's in Russia. I guess the best thing is to focus on your friends and family and try to keep an eye out for things that can affect that. *Sigh*

Remembrance Day is on November 11, and is the day when we honor the veterans who served - and continue to serve - in wars and peacekeeping. It's not a celebration. It's a solemn day of reflecting and participating in the Act of Remembrance.

To prevent any part of the official ceremony from going ahead as protocol and custom dictate is highly disrespectful.

By whining and waffling about "needing permission" to do this, Justin Trudeau is continuing to hammer nails into his re-election prospects, if not his party leadership itself. And I say this as someone who used to vote for that party.

I know its illogical and so on. I was just referring to how this situation and many others feels to me. I had to change my voting habits too by the way :)

Okay.

I'm actually the only person in my family who ever paid much attention to Remembrance Day. My grandmother might have worn a poppy some years if I reminded her, but the others didn't care much. They had a "why bother" attitude, which made it all the more baffling, since both my grandparents lived through both world wars and my dad was briefly in the reserves in the late '50s.

As for voting habits... it's been a very long time since I voted Liberal, as in over 15 years, nearly 20. I changed my voting habits a long time ago.

So what are they protesting and what are they asking for?

Dad was moved from the ICU to a regular hospital room about 10 minutes before noon today. I was on the phone with him when they came to move him and said we's have to end the call early, but we were basically done talking at the time.

Yesterday morning a PA told me that dad did have an infection of some sort but that they were not sure where it is, only that it was probably not a UTI, that it was not systemic, and that the broad spectrum antibiotics should have eliminated it by now.

A bigger concern is that dad's heart is only pumping at 30% capacity.

In the evening a different PA told me that he probably never had any infection and that the fever was likely a symptom of heart failure.

The cardiologist who examined him (not dad's normal heart specialist, but one from the same practice) recommends a left heart catheterization, where they send a camera probe into the heart via a blood vessel in an arm or leg in order to take pictures of the inside of the heart. (It sounds very similar to the Cystoscopy he had on the Friday before last, only in that the camera goes up the urethra and images the bladder.) He suspects there may be a blockage somewhere. Dad may need a stint, but they won't be able to tell before the catheterization.

They said that it is very unlikely that dad will come home from the hospital this week, but he could come home early next week if the procedure does not show a need for a stint. If he does gent a stent, he may need to stay an extra week or two but should still be home before Thanksgiving.

I explained the procedure to my dad in that call this morning. At that time he seemed to think it was probably a good idea to go through with it but he wanted to come home first and think it over before going back for it later. This afternoon I managed to explain to him that it is better to go ahead and get it over with sooner as the longer they go without knowing how best to treat him the higher the risk he has of suffering a major heart attack.

The PA yesterday said that it probably does not matter whether he wants to go through with the procedure as his dementia is still causing enough confusion that they don't think he would be ruled competent to make his own medical decisions. Since we don't have an official power of attorney set up, they said they would go with the consensus opinion of his children. My brothers strongly advised to go through with it while my sister said it is probably for the best but she's like to read up on it some more first.

Dad called back from his new room seconds before the cardiologist stopped by an introduced himself. Dad remembered seeing him before, but could not remember his name at the time and had forgotten in within a couple minutes. Dad had called my cell phone, which gets poor reception inside the house and has limited minutes, so I asked him to call back on the landline. I was wanting a chance to talk things over with that cardiologist, but by the time we were reconnected he had left. It might be that he just stopped by to tell dad what the catheterization procedure was and found I'd already explained it adequately.

When dad called back a third time a nurse was there and said all his vitals were good. She does not know anything about when the procedure would be scheduled or when he would come home.

They have him on the blood thinner Heparin instead of Eliquis right now, and have added Spironolactone and are not givin him Imbruvica, but he is otherwise on the same medications as we had been giving him at home.

The nurse in the main hospital has a thicker accent than the one in the ICU so dad has more trouble understanding her. Dad's hearing has seemed to get a little worse on each of the last few calls anyway.

This morning he seemed less confused than he had been in quite a while (except for calling me my his/his oldest son's name a couple times), but he seemed to grow more confused later in the day.

In our first call he said he had slept well last night and felt well rested, but in the next two calls he said he was very tired and ended it saying he wanted to get off to try to take a nap.

In our last call he seemed to believe that the fact he had been moved to a new room must mean that mom and I have been moved to live in a new hospital room too, instead of still living here at home in the same house where we have lived for over 32 years.

He said he could not recall our home address or anything about the appearance of our home, although he thought he'd probably still recognize it when he gets home.

He really wanted to find the old fashioned paper spreadsheets on which he tracks his finances so he could review everything before coming home, and seemed to have some trouble grasping the fact that those papers are spread out on his desk at home so he wouldn't be able to find it at the hospital.

Dad is allowed to have visitors, but there is a limit of one at a time due to covid. I don't think I can leave mom alone long enough to see him.

This weekend Habitat is starting work at a site that is the closest ever to out house, only 1.5 miles away. The neighbor who checked up on mom and bought her lunch while I was with dad in the ER said he could probably do so again, so I think I may be fine going back to work this weekend to bring in a little income. He won't be around the following weekend at that job site is a lot further, so I'll probably have to take off more days going forward as I doubt dad will be capable of staying home alone with mom for a while.

I have a magic bullet that I have used like twice in the last 8 years. I got a recipe that required the blending of some yams, garlic, cream, and other ingredients. It ended up working out but with some issues along the way.

I assembled the magic bullet using the largest container possible, so that it would fit all the required ingredients. I noticed that there was a hole at the top, where you pour the blended mixture out of, after you are done blending.. but.. I was like.. "Won't this spray out of this hole when I start blending?". Using a rudimentary understanding of the movement of liquids, I opted to rotate the top slightly so that the hole was covered.

I turned on the blender and BAM SPRAY *sound effects* I ended up spraying yam-coloured stuff everywhere. I didn't end up losing a lot, but it was annoying. I put a paper towel over the hole and kept going and that worked out fine.

Blenders, how do they work? It's possible I am missing a piece or something, but I looked through all the parts I have and there was nothing that would have plugged that hole. Weird.

It worked out in the end, but I'm not sure what use I will have for this blender in the future. The smaller attachments don't have such holes, but sometimes you need to blend a bunch of stuff.

Are you sure that you're not missing out any attachment? I've never been 100% definitely sure how many attachments the food processor here actually has.

laptop , even if on Wednesday a full 8 years will have passed after its purchase , has been refusing to start after ı press the button . Like 3 days out of the last 5 . It will do so after ı press the same button to close it down and repeat and rinse . Used to happen about once a month ... Which happens to be a repeat of how my desktop died ... Anyone trying to tell me something ? You should have got an idea that you are being heard , already or whatever . If it is a preparation to move to the other world of computers , please let it see the WW lll , after doing sterling duty of bringing it so much closer . (A lot of expenses already, perhaps ı should backup at least the Civ folder , huh ?)

edit : Tablet ate a couple of words .

Can you run any diagnostics to see if it is a hardware or software problem?

over the years a hint or two that "mushrooms 59 kilometers high available" has helped it work . Not any of my own personally , and ı would have no idea of how to test anyhow .
