Random Rants Eighty-Four: Rants Gone Wild!!!!

I was browsing on Amazon, and for some reason it recommended a bunch of pregnancy pillows.

I so desperately want to be pregnant. This is killing me.

Desperation leads to stress and stress makes pregnancy difficult. Just relax, do it daily, and let nature take it's course. I've heard so many stories from friend's who tried all these pregnancy tricks and even medical procedures and when they finally gave up and stopped worrying about it, it happened naturally.

Rant: Freezing rain and high wind warnings.

Regular expressions too.

Funeral processions need to become a thing of the past unless it is for some notable individual.

I was almost made late to work because I got stuck behind a funeral procession. As I am slowly creeping along I started thinking about how selfish it is for a family to disrupt society just because someone they care about died.

Just set an appointed time for the funeral and have everyone make their own way to it. You know, like how just about every other family event is handled.

Funeral processions go from the visitation to the gravesite. It's people in thier worst moments. I generally approve of the last vestiges if social nicety over commerce in public.

How selfish of that person to die and disrupt your commute.

It's not the death that's the problem, it's the family's insistence on making a big production out of the whole thing that's the problem.

I guess what I'm really saying is I don't think funeral processions should be given special treatment. I mean, a police escort that prevents people from passing the procession even when there is an open lane to do so safely? That's a little ridiculous. A funeral procession should be subject to the normal flow of traffic like every other vehicle on the road.

I think that's got to be one of the most selfish things I've read in quite some time.

So it's selfish to say no one deserves special treatment? That's actually the direct opposite of selfish.

Nah, everyone deserves it should they need it.

That's pretty rough man.

Yeah, it's bad timing :/ .
I directly took some camomille tea with honey, and seems to be killing it already.
Maybe also just a bad combo with some blood sugar drop, IDK.
So hoping it goes well right now :).

And thanks :)

Please show just a little respect for the dead and their grieving families. You're only being mildly inconvenienced for a few minutes.

That's where we are going to disagree.

But why should the dead be prioritized over the living? I was on my way to work, but what if I wasn't? What if I were trying to rush my wife or one of my children to the hospital? Why should a procession for someone who is already dead take priority over my vehicle with still living people in it?

Also what if I were still in a probationary period at my job where being late would get me fired, thus denying me the income I need to support my still living family? That again leads me to the question: Why should the dead be prioritized over the living?

And while we're at it, why should you have to pull over for ambulances and fire trucks? They should have to obey the rules like everyone else, right?

No, because those are dedicated emergency services that are actively working to preserve life, not disrupting society to ceremonially mourn the already dead.

EDIT: I also want to point out just how ridiculous and intellectually dishonest it is to put a funeral procession on the same level as emergency services.

What is society? Isn't helping grieving people part of society's purpose? Society doesn't exist just to serve you.

And obviously the point of a funeral procession is for the family, no?

No.

Society doesn't exist just to serve you.

I'm not the one you should be saying that to as I'm not the one demanding special treatment from society.

And obviously the point of a funeral procession is for the family, no?

Yes. It is a personal family matter however and the state shouldn't be wasting resources (the police escort) on it. I mean if we spend state resources on that personal family matter, why not spend them on all personal family matters? I'm putting together a family reunion, do you think the state will provide a police escort and stop traffic for my "family reunion procession"?

EDIT: For some reason my auto-correct changed the word personal to "Persian I". I have changed it back.

Our local government definitely directs traffic for parades and charity races, closing and controlling local roads temporarily. Funerals seem a bare minimum of disruption. I don't see a great reason a big family reunion, if a significant community event should not rate the same.

I was wondering why Persian family matters in particular warranted state resources.

But those aren't personal family matters, those are community events. Big difference.

And I'm not against all funeral processions. Like I said originally, if it is someone of note or someone important to the community, then a procession is certainly justified. The average Joe Schmo though? Not so much.
