Its quite a fact that the last two Civ games that implemented 1UPT have gone downhill.

Civ BE is the worst user revieved game in the series on both Steam and Metacritic.

1UPT is the single worst thing that ever happened to the Civ series, for the single reason that it made the AI 100% useless

That is one reason. The reason that 1upt put me off Civ 5 was the micro management of moving armies. In Civ 4 if you want to move your army across your empire you click on the army, cntl-G, click where you want it to go. In Civ 5 you would have to tell each unit to move to a particular tile that would not block any other unit, and do them in the right order. Really long winded and not at all fun.

That reminds me as well of the the same thing.

Set single units to automove to a tile. Watch with amusement as they keep getting blocked by AI units, and instead of waiting a turn for the tile to clear, they head off another path that would take 20+ more turns around a mountain range. Then when the blocked tile is clear again, they head back that way, only to have it blocked again on the third turn, so then they go back to their 20+ turn detour ... Repeat, repeat, repeat ....

Frigging useless.

Given that we're comparing several civ games (of which the best, obviously, is Civ III), which one of the particular sub-fora would you relocate the discussion to if you were still an active mod?

Midterms went kinda (last one was today)
Not quite as bad as I feared, but still

I am the worst

That's so unrealistic though. I mean, a space elevator made by tanks stacked on top of eachother? Come on

They would all die from their fall or be crushed.

I have no patience for stacks. Send SoDs to the scrapheap of history please.

Rant: I no longer have access to a PC that'll comfortably run Civ5.

You guys both know that's not how this works. It's more like a conga line with 1,000 sequential d-punches because we don't have full stack combat in Civ.

Once you go 1upt, you never go back! ;)

I have repeatedly. Currently, the Anti civ game of choice is the TAC mod for Civ4 Colonization because it's scratching the olde schoole gaming itch and I can't find my original Colonization CD.

The best solution so far was stack limits and group combat as implemented in the Call to Power series, something so simple that firaxis yet fail to realize or implement.

All civ games after 4 have been purely rubbish in terms of AI competency. They are however vastly more fun for combatless city building / sim city style gameplay since you don't have bother with defense in the slightest bit.

Stack limits and group combat, particularly if they added some kind of supply limit or leadership system that develops throughout the game, would have been optimal.

That one was great. Sure, I'll pay you 70 gold per turn for your technologies. And then I'll invade you next turn!

We've all been there, you'll make it through.

>mfw you don't get the reference

I can't find that thread again, though :(

also: thanks

I agree that stack limits is probably the best way to go.

No we just needed the UI to allow us to designate groups of units and allow us to move them all together instead of forcing us to move them one at a time. This would be ideal for when you have to move a carpet of units across the map but probably wouldn't help so much in combat because you'd want more control over exactly how each individual unit moves. Setting all that up in combat is fun - but being forced to do it for each unit just to cross the map does get tedious.

Also SOD were also extremely tedious themselves just in different ways.

Agreed as well. :p

10k posts!

Imagine call to power stack limits and a choice of manual vs auto resolve.

Auto resolve would be as its always been in Civ games.

Manual resolve would be HOMM / chess board type combat.

Jinx! That's been the Tim civ of choice for the past few weeks as well! Getting down to the short strokes though. I'm about ready to declare independence from the evil European overlords and crush them beneath my rebellious heel!

Random one, with permant redirects in all the others.

Non-civ rant: I hate my goddamn brain.
There's this nice french girl at the salsa class, she's really beautiful. Today I danced with her for some time (more initiated from her side), her friend left while we were dancing. I had her for some time, talked a bit afterwards, on our own. Could've easily stirred the conversation in the right direction.
But I can't be arsed to do anything about her. She doesn't interest me. And I don't know why. Why, why, why?
Goddamnit!!!

And last Saturday I messed it up with a girl, into whom I'd actually be interested, by not paying attention. Basically someone else took the chance while I was distracted and talking to my friends (after I talked with her for quite some time), and grabbed her for dancing and talking.
Gah .

I browsed through the character lists for Adventure Time on TVTropes. I am utterly confused by whatever the hell is going on said show.

Have you seen the episodes "Remember Me" and/or "Simon and Marcy"?

Because if not those two more or less give you a good grounding in the show's premise.

Are...are those good starting points? I feel that it it would be impossible for me to penetrate the thicket of lore that's been built up by this point.
