Random Rants LXIX: Life is a Dismal Chore

Again - the problem isn't the raw pop number per se, the problem is the city's population quadrupled within 15 years of the proposal of the interstate system, and has increased more than tenfold in 50 years. LA's traffic is brutal, but things flow for the most part. San Jose's traffic is a nightmare hellscape because it was never designed to accommodate San Jose

I'm not sure, exactly, but i suppose our point is: Functioning municipal, state and federal governance would have by now provided infrastructure that is, well, barely adequate, or something in that ballpark anyway. :)

pathetic at soccer? they only lost one game.
Ok, you want it the hard way, don't you.

First let us examine some exemplary evidence on why Australia is so damn keen on pretending to be an Asian country and why they - curiously - reliably qualify for the WC since they do:

Now...
You may think this is wildly exceptional...
Oh, ye of little faith.

Oh jebus...

What was the line? Ah, right:
"I've seen better tennis in a tampon commercial."

Nice. Reminds me of that Chelsea famous miss and ridicule :mischief: Ok, this was a lot worse, but it wasn't by someone paid millions of euros to play.

New rant, but we're sticking with the sports theme:
Sort of...

Implying that wearing such clothing isn't precisely to steal the attention of boys.
What specifically looks good about them?
They're tight and highlight certain body parts.
I do prefer skirts though, as they make you look cute and innocent.
And you are extremely self-obsessed if you think girls dress like they do exclusively for your pleasure.
Thinking girls should dress respectfully makes me self-obsessed....sure thing buddy.
Actually, women dress the way they do to impress other women. It's a contest. It's all about looking better than the next woman.

And I agree with Valessa, civver_764, I can dress in any way I please. Because it feels good to be pretty.

*sigh*

Dude...
do you see the lines on the side of the lawn?
do you see the people in sideways prison garb writing down numbers?
Let me explain to you what's the plan here.
See...
Their deal is that they want to credibly argue that the idiotic, pathetic, dehumanising, harmful, outright torterous ways women dress are our fault.
Our deal is that we want to credibly argue that the idiotic, pathetic, dehumanising, harmful, outright torterous ways women dress are their fault.

So.
And now you have them, probably by accident, triggered into completely conceding the point and revealing the bullpuckyness of the hatefull sexist ideology they claim to defend (haphazardly on account of their incompatibly high intelligence, but anyway).
And what do you do? You contest it?! WTH!
You just caught an interception, by dumb luck if for no other reason.
And now you're running down the field in the wrong direction and your own team has to tackle you.

Let them wear what they want, so long as they claim to want that.
So long as they do we've won the argument.
I mean jesus. Are you some sort of conservative?!

And what Valessa is doing there is another can of worms.
But we'll address that at the next meeting i suppose.

:mischief:

Jesus.
Once with pros... just once.

Moderator Action: This is not a thread about clothing justifications between the sexes. Move on or make a thread about it.

Moderator Action: Surprisingly enough, the mod note in the other serial thread still applies if you try to move it to another serial thread.

Tip of the day: Loading two songs at the same time in Audacity and playing them at the same time doesn't sound very good.

Oh, the audacity!

It's also very annoying when a train goes by when the radio is playing a song I enjoy, because the radio turns all to fuzzy static and noise.

The above is - hilariously - still kind of a low sell for Tokyo.
By any reasonable standard of inclusion Tokyo has... basically the population of California.

If my attempt to copy paste Japanese has not gone horribly wrong the above should be Saitama.
Ostensibly that's a city of 1.2 million people.
Of course it's not. It's a part of Tokyo with its own mascott.
I'd be willing to bet money that the above is their normal traffic and this is as bad as it gets.

I think Japan has several large advantages though
Its low crime rates allow for driverless buses which are being rolled out, In the US i can easily imagine people not paying for the fairs ever, vandalism, crime would be a problems.

Then the Japanese have a hyper efficient train system and Germany Swiss like timetable for running of trains which reliable and profitable
The US train system is a mess, currently its losing money and dosnt have a good reputation. Maybe the US can settle for something reasonable like a decent train system to help alleviate the car traffic a bit

I am a bit worried. I'm afraid that I might soon lose the ability to type past hunt-and-peck.

Is this for lack of practice, or are you suffering from another problem?

I am on a waiting list to see a neurologist to confirm the diagnosis, but my family doctor believes it is Parkinson's. Frankly, I don't want to think of the alternative.

It's finally raining a little, even if only a few mm. Sydney has had a grant total of 1.6mm of rain over the last two months, and only 35mm the month before that. Everything's so dry.
False alarm! The Bureau of Meteorology has rounded the sprinkles I saw this morning to 0mm.

As i have previously noted Canadia and Australia are pathetic at soccer
And I suppose this would be relevant if the tournament was, say, not the 'World' Cup.

Cricket made the terrible mistake of trying to exile the useless teams from the World Cup, which is widely regarded as commercial grab sucking the life out of the sport, because the whole point of a World Cup is to see those useless teams play.

If the World Cup is just 'UEFA: Electric Bogaloo', what's the point?

UEFA with special guest CONMEBOL

I agree though, part of the big appeal of the World Cup for me is seeing the weaker teams and how far they can go.

I mean, you could change the qualifying process. Continental confederations are stupid. Asia and Europe could be split in two or three, and OFC could be abolished.

I think this is true for sports tournaments in general... what makes the March Madness (NCAA -College Basketball in the US) tournament so exciting is the "Cinderella" teams...seeing them upset the higher ranked teams. If they just did a standard Quarter-Semi-Final with the top 8 teams it wouldn't be nearly as entertaining.

So I've only spent a limited time driving in the Bay Area and I can't speak to it but I can say that the earlier photo of the 405 is not a photo shop, it's like that every single day during rush hour. But Owen's right, the traffic does move, the most I typically spent at a stand still is half an hour. That's a long time to sit there but when you put it in the context of that many cars and it's not a huge deal.

With LA traffic the good thing is that pretty much everywhere in the county is an hour away. The bad thing is that everything is an hour away... What I mean is that if you have easy access to a highway between two points you can get anywhere within an hour outside of rush our (and 2 hours in rush hour) but if you can't take a highway it will take at least an hour to get anywhere. Seriously it used to take me 45 minutes to get to my old work that was 10 miles away w/o a highway and an hour to go 45 miles on the highway to my new job outside of rush hour. (Though it was 1.5 - 2 hours in rush hour)

This is partially true. The commuter rail service does suck in most areas. The freight system though is first-rate and is a big part of why commuter rail sucks because they share tracks in most places and freight is given priority.
