Was it for a paper or are you (like half of CFC, me included) a perennial aspiring novelist?

Na, scientific paper, and is roughly about cow rumen microbiology.
And I thought it was good :/.

Did they tell you why it was rejected? Are you submitting it directly, or through an agent?

Direct (since it's science). And yeah, there you also normally get the comments why (sometimes more, sometimes less useful).
And the biggest comments are also valid (not enough replicates, not enough data points), but damn, I cannot help it, wasn't my idea, the experiment is over for a long time, and even though these problems, the results are pretty damn good.
*sigh* whatever. Damn.

There is no way to lower the voice in Skype! I mean what is this poopoo? It's driving me out of my mind. All I want to do is listen to some music and hold a Skype conversation, but no! That is impossible, because the volume in Skype gets so loud that it is destroying my ear drums! You would think this would be a nobrainer as a feature for a software that produces motherfondling SOUND! But no... You can't have that... Skype doesn't even appear in the volume mixer... Sheesh... What a piece of excrement.

Isn't it owned by Microsoft?

Some of you know that my older cat died in March, and I've considering getting another, since it's not good for cats to be by themselves. So I've been scouring Kijiji (our version of Craigslist) for months, and last weekend I found what would have been perfect - little black kitten, about 3 months old, fostered by someone for the rescue society I used to work for. The initial vet visit would be covered, as well as part of the spaying cost.

I emailed the poster, told her why I'd be the perfect person to adopt this kitten, and when we talked on the phone, she said others had expressed an interest but wanted her to be a farm cat, which she would prefer not happen. I assured her that I would provide a home strictly in the city, indoors, no dogs, no mean neighbors, I have a single balcony now so no risk of wandering into another apartment, safety first always...

She said she'd call me after work that day. Well, time passed and no call, no email. So when I finally called to remind her, she trotted out a story that adds up to "oops, the shelter took her back and adopted her out. I forgot to call you. Sorry, haha."

Well thank you SO *$%&$$)^#)! MUCH! :gripe:

I'd started moving stuff around, redoing my budget (an additional cat would mean more litter supplies, more food, eventually the vet visit for spaying, she'd need a collar, toys), and was even thinking up a short list of names.

How hard could it be to tell the shelter that there was already someone who wanted her?

DAMMIT!

My cat would like a stern word with you.
Okay, some cats don't mind being alone.

My cat is currently getting into a lot of trouble because she's bored. I can't play with her like another cat, I can't groom her like a cat would... she needs company.

This isn't like "sorry, we're out of that make and model and won't get anymore in, even though we promised it to you"... it's worse.

This is an adoption I was invested in, and all they can muster is "oops, ha-ha"?

That's what I would expect of an electronics store, since one pulled that bait and switch crap with me years ago.

It's not how an adoption agency should be run.

Move on. There are lots of cats that need good homes. If your goal is a new kitty, stop criticizing the adoption agency and find your next cat.

You want to get another cat? Excellent choice!

Birdjaguar, you should really pay attention to your own sig when you post your unhelpful "advice" to me.

Did you really think I'm giving up, just because I've already had excuse after excuse after runaround from someone earlier this year about wanting to rehome her kittens but not even so much as complying with a request for a photo first? Yes, I want a new kitten, but due diligence is necessary as well. I won't buy from a kitten mill, and there have been some that have caught a first glance on social media but then I see the dirty conditions they're living in, dirty ears, watery eyes... I reported one of those places.

I kept on, and on, day after day... found someone who would have worked out perfectly, spoke to the foster mom, and then she pulled this "oops haha" crap.

I think I'm damn well entitled to rant about people who don't deal in good faith.

Adopting a cat is a lifetime commitment. You have to be willing to put in at least 12-15 or more years into this. I don't make inquiries unless I think I may have found the new family member for whom I'm willing to do this.

Right now I'm feeling a bit emotionally kicked around, so if you can't say anything supportive, please don't bother saying anything.

You should adopt Tak, he needs a new home.
I'd be happy if he wanted to come for a visit, but I'm afraid he would probably be too large to fit in the cat carrier I have, and cats don't get to live here permanently unless they've had their distemper and rabies shots, and if male, they have to be neutered.

That last would probably be a dealbreaker as far as he's concerned, so... probably an unworkable solution.

We'll have him neutered quick smart. We'll just say we're going to the park or something. By the time he realises, it's too late.

Oh, that's it, no cookies for you.

I'm playing vidjamagames, so no.

Plan B then: do you want to go to the LAN party? :)

Neighborhood drama. The house across the street is going through foreclosure and has been empty for a couple years. Middle of the night a week or so back a car shows up and people move into the house. Neighbor calls the police. Police spend an hour there, but let the people stay. No power or water turned on in the house. Management company that mows the lawn show up, people disappear for 3 days. I sneak in and take a look around, and they left empty food containers and a case of bottled water and a few other things, and had been using the toilets, even though the water is off and they can't flush. People come back. People's families show up and accuse them of taking the car without permission, and beat the man bloody and take the car. Police and ambulance show up and haul them off. But then they again come back.

Now it looks like they took the rest of their stuff and left. And I hope they never come back.
