Random Rants LXIX: Life is a Dismal Chore

My mother just can't stop being emotional abusive from time to time. And not even understand that she is doing it.

Sometimes I can't even remember why I've never blown my brains out.
I'm really sorry to hear this Cutlass. I hope you have a network of friends to lean on. It sounds like you're having a rough go of it. :(
I absolutely hate my new phone. I hate it so much I've very nearly deliberately smashed it 3 times in the past week. I hate it so much that even though I was given it for free, I still feel like I was ripped off.
I'm curious what kind of phone it is.

I found out that some graphic design work I did for a friend is now being used in 3 states and is seen by hundreds of people per day. He paid me $20 for it at the time.

I'm not mad about doing him a favour since that's ultimately what it was (for me). But when you have a bunch of things you need, it is easy to be bitter about the fact that the work could have easily gotten several hundred dollars instead if I had been commissioned by his employer instead of him.

Lately when I go on fifty chat, no one is there. #losers

Family's had guests who have occupied my room for the last week, so I haven't really had access to my computer

Not really. I learned years ago that no one wants to listen to me complain. Which is why I don't even use this thread much.

Samsung Galaxy J3 Prime. Piece of crap. Even free it is a piece of crap.

When are you going on? I normally turn on the comp in the evening 530 or 6 and am on for a couple hours or up till about 9 or so (eastern time). After than is bed time. :p

I don't go on anymore. It's my fault.

Why not?

Gotta love how everyone is wringing their hands over the complete non-story regarding a potential war between the US and North Korea, while simultaneously ignoring the greater conflict brewing between China and India. China just announced they have begun a "countdown to war" with India, yet you all are still focused on North Korea and their highly dubious claim that they have a missile that can reach the US.

"All"?

How about not throwing everyone into the same category, 'k?

It's not India that announced they have missiles that can reach the U.S., so that could be a reason why fewer people are focusing on it.

I just wish your so-called "president" would lose his computer (or whatever it is he uses for those moronic tweets) before he <annoys> even more people. We've got Haitian officials here now, having a diplomatic tug-of-war over those asylum seekers who are crossing our border illegally because they're afraid of Trump's decision to deport them in January.

It's not really that dubious of a claim. They've already demonstrated the capability to reach the US. It's really a downhill R&D path from where they are at now. The only thing they weren't able to demonstrate was reentry vehicle technology and for all we know they didn't actually set out to test that. Or the failure could have simply been back luck - Rocket Lab just announced their first test flight failed because a contractors ground station went down during flight and stopped talking to the rocket, which promptly shut itself down as it was programmed. Bad luck is a huge thing in aerospace and is as plausible an explanation for the reentry vehicle failure as anything else. And don't forget you learn far more from failures than successes so they're likely able to nuke the US now or in the very near future.

Pardon me for paying a lot less attention to China and India squabbling again when I live in the prime target for a North Korean nuke. If there even are good reasons to chastise people for not being connected enough, this surely isn't one.

I'm a good listener. Shoot me a PM anytime dude.

Yeah I'm usually on after you go to bed. I always forget about the time difference.

Rant:
Audible has seriously jacked up their prices. A non-subscription book can now cost nearly $50. That's ridiculous. I used to use the service for the convenience but I don't want a subscription because my commute isn't permanent and I need more than one book in the next month anyways. So I'm headed to the library to see if they have any audiobooks I can check out.

Except a war between China and India is a lot more likely to end in a global nuclear exchange or at least a major global conflict than Trump and Lil'Kim exchanging empty threats and insults.

This is a problem which, unlike your moderator status, you can only solve yourself.

The issue is most definitely Trump's rhetoric over North Korea's business as usual advance towards real nuclear ICBMs. That in itself is no risk, because the regime aims to preserve itself and actually using it would lead to its total destruction.

If Trump is serious, it opens the door to American first use, which brings instability to the equation as NK might switch to first use if it believes itself or its nuclear force under threat: rather use it than lose it.

That said, it is true that India-China is way more likely to escalate into actual conflict.

We can argue that the real rival for China regarding Asia is a resurgent India rather than a US which is already retreating. At least in the long term.

Was eaten alive by midges yesterday, so today we itch.

I hate this
Everything is terrible
The slightest attempt to address one problem only leads to a myriad of other problems showing up
Nothing ever gets better
Haven't known anything except failure in years
