So I as yesterday at the bank, because I didn't receive me token generator for online banking, and I also changed address in the meantime.
At the bank I got told that I need to call the hotline, to have the token generator re-send.
At the hotline I got told to go back to the bank to change my address.
The lady at the hotline sent an email to my bank, that they should call me to set up an appointment. I told het to mention in the email that I don't speak French, because only some people there speak English.
I got a call today, while I was asleep, and they left a voicemail. In French.

It's in some way comical.

You need to get on that learning French thing.

If it included a day of the week and a time, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out when the appointment is. Assuming that's why they called.

Rant: I'm still having terrible luck with hard drives. My SeaGate Barracuda is malfunctioning not even three months in.

I bought a new laptop, but it won't ship until June, and then it's shipping from China. This'll be a long two months.

Is it some kind of special laptop that you cannot find locally or through a mail order shop that has them in stock?

Everything's out of stock. Best Buy had some left, but theirs have a mark-up of over $500... used. I had to order straight from the manufacturer; surprisingly affordable.

The issue I ran into was availability of parts. A 7k drive is out of stock until June. I could "upgrade" to a 5k drive with twice the space and have it shipped by May instead, but my experience with laptop HDDs at 7k is poor. I couldn't imagine slowing it down even further to 5k. Technically it'd just need to be a storage drive and then it'd be fine, but I already upgraded the SSD from 256 GB to 512 GB. Upgrading that again to a terabyte would have added $200 to the price tag. So I settled for waiting for a 1 TB 7k HDD and 512 GB SSD.

The one I got, after discounts and coupons, totaled to exactly $1800 CAD. About the best CPU you can get for a laptop without crossing into 3k price territory (i7-9750H), 16 GB of RAM, and a GTX 1660Ti (6 GB VRAM). This is a slight downgrade over the one I was originally going to get: the same specs except with an 8 GB VRAM GPU... and $2500 CAD. So I spent $700 less and got a worse GPU. The cost savings allows me to eliminate debt (this is a different, longer story, but not one I'm especially proud of or interested in telling).

I hope it'll ship sooner. A friend ordered the same model earlier this month and had the same shipping estimate, but theirs is arriving today.

You had so much time to play mafia, though.

True, having less responsibilities and more time for things was one of the few cool things about being in middle school, but I think the negatives outweigh the positives overall

Some outfits quote a longer time for shipping and it arrives earlier.

On the other hand, my latest order from Walmart (lamp to replace the one that's been glitching lately; I have no ceiling lights in the living room so I need lamplight) has been delayed until next week (should have had it 3 days ago).

@Synsensa Getting rid of burdensome debt is always a good thing. Good decision.

Rant: I accidentally cut my nose and now there's blood all over my glasses.

How did you manage that o_O?

You need to get on that learning French thing.

Ah, naaah, I'm happy that I already manage to get out of bed each morning, let's not put another burden on my life.

:P
No, this is only annoying, but not a real problem, so I'm not in a hurry.

I think the lady told me actually to call back to set up an appointment.
But I don't know if the number which called was hers, or the reception, and if either of the person will speak English.
So I'll just pop by tomorrow again (quarantine, yay).

Pro tip: Don't buy Seagate

You only hear about issues with Seagate hard drives all the time is that there are only 3 HDD manufacturers left (Seagate, WD and Toshiba; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_defunct_hard_disk_manufacturers), and the former 2 dominate the market.
So it's not so that they're defunct all the time, but rather that 50% of all people have one so you'll just hear that they break, because there's a 50% chance it's Seagate or WD.

I've had much better luck with WD, to be honest, but then I have entirely switched to Samsung SSDs, so no more spinners breaking on me.

I was looking at the WD Blue drives but I saw that some of them are SMR and I read that SMR drives are more likely to fail because of the way they write data.

This is petty, but I want them to cancel the NHL season. Not because it's the safest course of action and less complicated than the mental gymnastics they're currently going through to try and salvage the playoffs, but because I would really prefer just erasing this Leafs season from having ever happened.

I predict they will cancel it. They canceled the Calgary Stampede, which is going to be devastating to that city's economy and those of the surrounding towns. Even Red Deer benefits to some extent, as hotels fill up there and we take the overflow (some people really don't mind a 3-hour round trip for commuting).

On the bright side, no chuckwagon ponies will die this year.

The old ‘don't grow up: it's a trap’ still holds up though.
