Random Rants OA - I Have 71 Problems, But This Thread Ain't One

Such a letter just happened to arrive a few hours ago - with the added benefit that when I actually cancelled my service and was told that only the latest bill had to be paid they ‘mistakenly’ also cancelled my mother's cellphone line (it was the same carrier).

When my daughter was one, our health insurance processing company cancelled the insurance on every child of all employees at my work. The next year, when my son was born, they cancelled my daughter's insurance again, because we had a new child now. They actually told us this on the phone. (I guess a lot of people must trade in the first child when they get a new one.) In each case it was actually pretty easy to fix, but it was really frustrating.

I saw another young professional show up for work today wearing a man bun. What the heck is up with that. They seem to becoming more common. The guy must obviously think it makes him look good. Are there any women here that thinks it improves the look of any man wearing one? You'd have to be someone that looks good bald to carry it off.

And get off my lawn.

What does being bald have to do with it?

There are places in the world where men do wear this style, and in the past it was also common in some regions.

The most recent occasion when I've seen men wearing their hair in a bun has been on the CBS show Survivor - the one where 18-20 people spend 39 days on some island, trying to outwit/outlast/outplay the others to win $1 million.

There are a lot of physical challenges involved in this, so some of the male cast members who have long hair will often wear it in a bun to keep it out of their way.

I don't see a problem with it. They look okay to me.

(as long as they wear the bun in the back, and not Princess Leia-style; that would look ridiculous)

Yeah, I think I've seen every episode. (maybe missed one over the years)
And I think that guy is one of those guys that it wouldn't matter if he was bald, he'd still look ok.
But he would probably look better if he just showed off the long locks.
But bun just looks stupid.

As in: you'd have to have a really attractive face to overcome the unattractive hairstyle (or lack thereof).

I think manbuns look good given the right person. I certainly can't pull it off, but this guy?

woof.

But would he look better without it?

Agreed. Most often hipster chic with the man buns and whatnot looks rather uncool. But for those lucky enough to pull it off, it can be a really good look, no doubt.

Well the guy I saw this morning was considerably more of an average guy, so no, he couldn't carry it off.

He's also got the whole look going. Sometimes the worst thing you can do is "dip a toe" into a style and adopt just part of it.

Ok, I was looking for different opinions so thnx.

Every time I try to sing, my cat starts to scratch and bite my feet. That's rude of her.

Some animals don't like singing. Maddy gives me dirty looks, but I don't remember that she ever bit me to make me shut up.

How does your cat feel about instrumental music? My first cat liked Strauss, for some reason... she'd come up to my bedroom and listen whenever I had my Strauss record on, and leave when it was done.

Age, me old china!

My cat doesn't mind any other music. She either ignores the radio or moves closer to it when certain songs are on. Sometimes if one of the DJs is talking she looks around to try to find where in the room they are. But when I try to sing she hates it.

Well then the question is: Does she mind all of your singing.
Maybe the instances where she doesn't inflict punishment on you (i presume those exist) are not incidental, but she's actually fine with the singing.
There could be all manner of reasons, i suppose. Type of song, time of day, some undercurrent of your voice, say, reflective of your mood.

Anyway, this appears highly curious and worthy of scientific investigation (maybe including the use of thick woolen socks, though). :)

Hmmm so the past shenanigans with the site getting slow at unpredictable times has left me completely behind in some of the fast-posting non-serial threads. :(

I missed an Amazon delivery today because the building intercom isn't working. I had no idea they deliver on Sunday! I wasn't expecting it until Monday, at the earliest.

The good thing is that they're going to try again tomorrow... hopefully after the tech guy comes to fix the intercom.

For some reason Amazon decided to ship the bookmark separately from the book. :dubious:
