I was pretty excited when I finally got approved for a dental allowance from the government as I haven't been to the dentist in almost six years.
Excitement dashed when I learn my local dentist files a reimbursement claim from insurance after you've paid upfront. So I guess I need to go hunt for a dentist that files claims directly.
I found one while taking a walk and made an appointment on a whim.
I was used to getting x-rays done with a mouth guard but they wanted me to use this fancy pants spinny machine they had in a separate room instead. Much easier, and much higher quality. Pretty cool.
Sometime in the past two to three years I had a wisdom tooth grow in the top right of my mouth. It's completely impacted and didn't drop at all, instead simply growing sideways. Right now it has my molar's root pinched against another molar. That explains the recurring toothaches last year.
Somehow, this got infected, and since it's in such a weird spot and since I haven't gone to the dentist in so long, the infection spread to all of my other teeth. That explains the tooth sensitivity and the general feeling of "gee, my teeth aren't doing so great".
The surgery for getting rid of the tooth/source of the infection isn't covered by government insurance and will require a private specialist. My dentist didn't even want to try and do it himself because of how far up the tooth is. Just the surgery alone will cost over $600. So that's not happening.
I'm going back on Monday to get all the infected material cleared, removal of all the tartar, getting all the cavities filled with composite resin, and then probably getting a special brush that can reach the very far edge of my mouth so that I can keep the problem at bay. Not sure how that will work given that the pinched molar presses up against my jaw/cheek now.
At least the dentist has a TV on the ceiling.
