I got an early birthday present, my mom bought me a new laptop. Unfortunately it's an AMD A9 9420 Dual core with 8gb ram and a radeon R5 M230. From what i can tell it is more or less incapable of any form of gaming other than facebook games and even then it will apparently run slowly from what i've read of the reviews. Pretty much has roughly half the power of my current kitty-thrashed laptop......Now i just got to figure out how to tell her about these problems without sounding ungrateful..........
Change "it's actually not quite as good" to "But because it doesn't have all the features I need, I wonder if you still have the receipt...""Hey mom, thanks for buying me that laptop. I really appreciate the thoughtfulness. It's actually not quite as good as my current laptop though so I was wondering if you still had the receipt. You and I can go return it and find something else together and maybe I can even teach you a little about this stuff just in case you ever need to know about it in the future."
What Synsensa said, with the added:
"...maybe I can add a little money to it and we can get one with the better capabilities that I need."
There was a time that i might have considered that option, but now i have a pill to keep those thoughts away.(and to keep me from punching holes in the walls and yelling at strangers)Always maximise dramatic effekt. Upon receiving it, throw it in the wall and storm out of the house in a flood of tears.
At least you have the pills…?There was a time that i might have considered that option, but now i have a pill to keep those thoughts away.(and to keep me from punching holes in the walls and yelling at strangers)
It's still a free laptop which you can use for a lot of things.
I recommend Linux and Battle for Wesnoth (assuming you have enough time to spend on a gaming addiction).
So do 40% of Americans. College degrees aren't anything special nowadays. Bachelor's degrees are pretty much treated like high school diplomas now and are a dime a dozen. Even master's degrees are becoming increasingly common. So please, come down off your "I went to college" high horse. A college education is actually very average nowadays and isn't anything special. That's why you see so many college graduates working as baristas at Starbucks.
Will you lie when asked if you floss daily?
Actually, you can get most games to run, sometimes natively, most often on WINE (including, I recently found out, World of Warcraft, even if Blizzard apparently have a Linux launcher which they never release). There's tons of workarounds.Linux sadly is incapable of running most games - including old-ish ones, as long as they are 3d-tied (cause it uses an entirely different base for that)
Tbh, linux sucks, but at least it is far more stable as an OS than windows. If one doesn't care about games it is the better sy stem, surely.

Of course it'd be easier if more game companies released native Linux versions, but still.
