I haven't published before. If I had, the publisher would have handled it. But here, I am the publisher.

BookBaby has a service for cover art: $250 for a simple one; $350 for customized. They're the lowest priced people I've found. Others go for several hundred to over a thousand. I don't want to lay out that kind of money.

Search "book cover" on Fiverr. You will see similar pricing there, but there are also quite a few artists who charge significantly less (<$100).

Made plans for the weekend but due to circumstances I'd now give myself a 50-50 chance of coming down with a noro within the next 48 hours. Stress levels are sky high right now. :cringe:

We just got back from an appointment with mom's neurologist.

He said that while the carotid endarectomies would probably help, the vascular surgeon's diagnosis does not explain how she could have suffered her strokes on both sides of the brain around the same time. (Last time she had strokes mostly in the left but also in the right near the back of the brain. The blood vessels are small enough there that he thought they were to blame. The latest time however the strokes were near the front of the brain, mostly left again but again with a small stroke on the right side too.) He said that there has to be something else going on. He is going to ask her cardiologist to attach a monitor to record the data of her heart rhythm over the course of a month or more. Depending on the results, he said we might need to switch her to a more powerful blood thinner.

Mom has been really depressed for the past two days. He said that depression could be a symptom of the stroke and said he would prescribe a low dose of an antidepressant like Zoloft if it last much longer. We think that it is caused by sleep deprivation though, as she said she has hardly slept at all for the past two nights and was in a very good mood for most of the past two weeks. When I suggested that a sleep aid might be more useful, my sister then noted that she had melatonin pills at home already. The doctor said that those would be very good for her and suggested we give her 3-6 mg of melatonin each night before trying anything else.

We noted that mom's skin (which used be be extremely soft) has gotten very papery. He said that is an unavoidable side effect of the blood thinners.

He said it will probably be at least 4 to 6 months before it is safe to deal with mom's dental work. They have to get the strokes under control well enough for her to come off blood thinners before pulling any teeth. The will need the cardiologist's approval. He also said we should have her cardiologist sign off on the carotid endarectomy before proceeding with that.

Overall though he seems to think she is doing well, all things considered. She is not back to where she was in early February, but is doing better than she was when he saw her back on December 22. Her balance is still a bit off but she as not fallen. She still has mild aphasia but it is not hindering communication. Her vision is better than in December, although her right peripheral vision is not back yet,

What's a noro?

noro [noun], acronym, meaning Norwegian reindeer obfuscation. Apparently a local syndrome where the sufferer blurs the line between what he is and what reindeer are. Potentially dangerous (eg to the sufferer), in case they go hiking or near falls, including series of stepping-stone rock formations.

Norovirus, I'd think. Causes vomiting and diarrhea.

I prefer Kyriakos' explanation.

Wish we could help. Sorry that she and your family are going through so much.

Damn cats just shattered the screen on my laptop.
Literally Shattered. It looks like a friggin spider web.
I got an external moniter hooked up but now everything has a yellow tinge.
An equivalent replacement for my laptop runs around $2000 and up....
So much for my MSI GX70 Elite:(

How did that happen?
Kitties got over-enthusiastic chasing the cursor so i kicked them off the laptop and they tackled it off the side of the bed beside my chair just as i was getting up and my knee went up as the laptop went down and CRACK!

Ouch… well, you have that new laptop your mother bought you anyway. :mischief:

I found a cartoonist in India I like, signed up, paid for the order via PayPal, filled out the part describing what I'm looking for...and then Fivver would't send because my status is "incomplete." :wallbash:

Anyway, I see you get $5 for bringing me to the site. I was asked nothing about that. :(

No I think that's magic mushrooms. I'd much rather have some of that.
What's a noro?
What aimee said.

I reject your reality and proclaim the objective superiority of Kyriakos' hypothesis.

Yay!

I'm not on Fiverr. :) So no worries. ;) I just know it's what a lot of first-time self-publishers do because they don't have the incentive to find a dedicated artist but still need something presentable.
