Random Rants : Pissed tae th' gills

No probs, the defendant freaking out is something that might happen to you as a real lawyer so you'd better have training from the start. And better to have a layman who doesn't know the law.

Likely the same one. Whit Bowman is accused of robbing RacheterWorld. Sound familiar?

Sounds very familiar. I attended an intramural round a few weeks ago. Fun to watch, not sure if I would want to do it. I'll be doing British Parli for credit next spring, though.

So my mock trial team has lost three people to cutting and quitting. This leaves prosecution (my side) short two witnesses and an attorney, and defense short of a freaking defendant. We scrimmage Wednesday.

BUT I'M NOT PANICKING OR ANYTHING GUYS.
I feel you. We have a competition this weekend and our defense opener told us yesterday he can't go to the competition, so I got to put together an opening in just over a day.
What are your roles?

The defendant is testifying, so that's kind of a big problem.
Wait, you mean you guys are having the defendant testify?
We've seen it before and it never looks good because he clearly states he is guilty to theft by deception and pretty much guilty of robbery 1.

Directing Isaacs (although that may change, who the hell even knows?) and closing. My primary cross is of Hartman.

I see what you mean, but there really aren't that many great witnesses for defense, and if you can control just how Hartman is perceived, that's a pretty major plus. We have a pretty soft-spoken blonde, and there's just enough wiggle room in the affidavit to maybe weasel out of theft by deception. It's tough, but the advantage given typically balances it all out. And of course, as a prosecutor, it's not really my decision at all.

Rant: People who play the race card at every opportunity are making it harder and harder to tell people who say things that may be interpreted as racially insensitive from actual, genuine racists. They're also creating an association between accusing people of racism and being an overbearing prick, which makes it even harder to call out genuine instances of racism.

Also, there is a very hot circle of hell for people who think that insulting their opponents in a debate will make them change their minds.

Having special circles of hell for different kinds of people is rasist.

Are you saying that different races will take different actions that automatically lead to them being segregated in hell? That's very rasist.

You, sir, are a moron.

I thought I'd just said that NO U!

Clearly, the detection of such insinuations require a racist like you to make.
You, sir, are a moron.
And the déjà vu returns!

Well damn. I pop in for the first time in a month, and after actually looking around a bit, I see all the mods that I raged against and got banned by back in the day have retired. Now I just feel old.
