The local beer here is an abomination of Fosteresque proportions.
I was offered a can of Fosters only the other day.

Sadly the memory of the taste of the stuff when I last drank it in the 70's has stayed with me, and I declined.

Though, I can't honestly now remember what it did taste of. It's the memory of the memory of it that I remember really.

Mind you, we don't get the real Fosters over here. This may be a good or bad thing. It depends.

Woohoo. So school started in August. Disappointing with the lack of a real vacation, but yeah. It happened, I can live with it. But now, after my dad waited to long to help me get my driving learner's permit, I have to pack each day with two online lessons of driver ED in addition to school. Yippee. This shall continue for the next three weeks. THEN, I actually get to spend time behind the wheel, packing in as many hours as possible for a total of 45 hours. I love being in a rush for everything. :):):):)

What did you do to deserve that?

Canned (or bottled) blandness.

Meh....nothing wrong whatsoever with a very cold Fosters in hot weather. It's meant to be bland, designed to quench the thirst and allow you to drink a few easily.

Never minded a 10.00am Fosters with bacon and eggs after a 6.30am tee off in summer

Yes. Absolutely. Meant to be bland. Like Budweiser.

And if it's not bland enough, chilling it will make any residual taste disappear completely.

Because the lower the temperature the blander the taste?

Still. If you're in a hot country and you want a beer, what's the alternative?

and allow you to drink a few easily.

Only because the taste necessitates drinking it in such a way that it bypasses your tastebuds.

To be fair, the beer I'm complaining about (Скопско) was probably designed with the same theory in mind (in Australia I assume it's a result of the six o'clock swill, which is understandable, but doesn't explain its survival in more civilized times), but I'd ordered it to slowly accompany my dinner, not to scull.

Because the lower the temperature the blander the taste?

This is no excuse for the UK's perverse habit of drinking warm ales.

Sometimes dreams is all you got, don't give up on them.

Edit: I have no idea how far back in the thread is the post I just replied to but it chafes my arse that I screwed up.

It turns out I have some extremely racist and homophobic friends and nearly zero options to find new ones at the moment.

Friend 1: There's now an LGBT Frat on campus.
Friend 2: Good thing for them I'm graduating because otherwise that frat would have burned to the ground.
<amongst other racist/homophobic remarks>

Yes. It can be tiresome. I find it especially so when it comes from people I otherwise quite like.

There's really no talking people out of it, I've found. I've tried all sorts of things - even claiming to have black/African ancestry myself just seems to get some odd looks.

Yes, exactly! There's nothing that can be said that won't make them dislike you other than not saying anything.

It's highly possible i'll miss a meetup with a fellow CFC-er because of work !
Sucks to work - no time for things. Sucks to not work - no money for things ... sigh ...

Right, as if any important politician in the US was left-wing.

@hobbsyoyo: isn't it heterosexualophobic to have an LGBT frat?

(I think that the concept of frats is ridiculous, but what the hell)

There are frats for black men, hispanics, etc, so I don't see anything wrong with an LGBT one. And given the level of discrimination the LGBT community faces here I support all the fellowship networks they can put together.

But in principle I agree with you that frats should burn in a fire.

But it's still rasist because there can't be a Straight Rich White Christian Men's Frat!
