Hey Arakhor, I knew that sounded familiar. We briefly discussed it in the "Gun Control" thread. Starting point was here...

Thanks. Other than the usual thread-crapping, the following posts weren't too bad.

You say allow as though the parents stood by, allowed the child to grab the gun, lock and load, and blow away his sister, nodding approvingly at his command of the firearm.

Any parent ******** enough to gift a 5 year old an actual rifle has pretty much done that.

I have to agree with the Italian Gran Turismo Buddhist monk.

Oh documentaries I need to watch for Spanish class, why do you make me hate left-wing nutjobs so much?
I mean, if you are trying to make the point that native villages are exploited by MNCs or even local businesses, don't have a villager say that the businesses leave them alone because they are too far in the jungle and too poor.
Also, if you are going to support an organization that violently takes over government buildings and villages, don't act all oppressed when the military comes to force them out!

That applies to the 1970s guerillas and also to the morons in charge… if you come over we can have a laugh at these people.

What really made me hate the documentary was that the 'information' consisted solely of interviews with villagers but completely without context, sad shots of poor natives, interviews with experts whose words you completely twist, or known ideologues who in this case add nothing useful to the discussion (such as the clip of Chomsky which could have been pilfered from any anti-globalism film).

:dunno: The same's been done with poor peasants for gunz in 'Murica.

It is getting very windy right now. The plus side of it is the rain we are getting but I will assume that with the wind we will get it, some damage will happen, maybe not to our property, but around the city.

The bus stop is more than a mile from my house. Normally, it's a nice walk, and I don't mind, but when I have a textbook in my piece of **** backpack, as well as a laptop and a binder, and it looks like it could rain any minute, a ride home would be nice, Dad. Especially if you're just at home, not doing anything important...

Gah! Sarah comes to my house tomorrow, and I have to go see some old people down the road shortly after.

This is no good. Never mind. *sigh*

Aren't I a lazy fool, putting off this ten-page research paper until the MORNING BEFORE IT'S DUE!:wallbash: Which is in about 7 hours at the moment. No sleep for me.

We had flight testing for the drones we built in class this week. One of my good friends proudly told me and some other people that his drone came within fractions of an inch within the predicted performance margin. I was really happy for him as it meant he'd win the fly-off contest (which carries no prize or penalty other than bragging rights).

Today, we all had to give presentations on the performance of our drones. It turns out his plane was multiple feet off of his predictions and his team wasn't even close to being the top performer.

Why do people lie like that? He knew he was giving this presentation and we'd all the see the real statistics. So what was the point?

People just want to feel special.

Yes. That's right.

I've caught myself doing the same sort of thing many times. Isn't it very common?

I don't know, I just thought he had the sense to not make stuff up when we could all verify that he was lying quite easily. There is a difference in lying when no one is the wiser and lying when everyone can blatantly see right through your BS.

Yeah. I know. But sometimes a person just can't help themselves. It just seems to pop out of one's mouth, and then it's a done job.

I'd say it's a sign of an intrinsically honest person who would just like to be thought well of. Lying when you know you'll be found out can't really be serious lying, can it?

Have you confronted him with it? If handled well, and tactfully (easier said than done, but with good humour, and obviously well-intentioned, should be possible), it could be a good thing.

Still, I get the impression you feel nothing but scorn. Or are you just mystified by it?

That's highly cryptic. Can you decrypt it, please?

Google search on egghand codes reveals nothing helpful at all.
