I was in a relatively trendy part of St. Paul yesterday to get my sister a Christmas gift and saw there was a used book store nearby so I went to take a look at it. Ended up dropping over $100 there, but it was worth it. Got a couple of unique CDs, an RPG set in Dark Age Scandinavia, a book by Al Venter on mercenaries in Africa, an illustrated history of British warship design in the 1920s and 1930s, a couple old books by Poul Anderson, and a few other things.

Which RPG? The Whale Road?

I also like the board game "Raiders of the North Sea," though it's not an RPG

Nope. Yggdrasil, a pen and paper RPG. It seemed neat and reasonably professionally made. In the store I checked some reviews online and there were no major red flags about the rule system, so I decided to pick it up.

I got a dozen pairs of new socks on sale for around $5. They aren't shabby ones either.

Let's be clear, Yggdrasill is not a game about Vikings. Yggdrasill is a fantasy game of action, adventure, romance, and politics that takes place in the Scandian cultures of northern Europe during the 4th through 6th centuries.
So it's set in Beowulf-times, for want of a better word?

I have a game which was called Heroine's Quest - Ragnarok or something like that, it's on Steam. You might want to look into it.

I'm not sure of the real differences between Nordic and Saxon, but King of Dragon Pass also is a game along that sort of feel. It has some lovely artwork too.

KoDP is a mostly forgotten gem, which is a shame. It's also one of the very first games I bought on GOG.

Which Poul Anderson books?

Which Poul Anderson books?
A Time Patrol compilation and a Technic Civilization / Nicholas van Rijn compilation. Wasn’t able to find any Terran Empire stuff unfortunately.

Also, my sister got me an awesome T-shirt for Christmas!

I got a new keyboard. Though I know I was getting it because I picked it out. Though I actually didn't realize it had a bunch of nice function buttons at the top, including one that opens my email client and some media player buttons that can control foobar2000 even when it's minimized to tray. There's also a search/find button but it doesn't seem to do anything.

Which compilation? ;) (honestly, there are several)

If you have The Shield of Time, maybe you can explain to me what the soldier in Afghanistan story (that brackets the rest of the material) has to do with the other stories (Beringia and the Renaissance Italy ones). That's something I've never really figured out even though I must have read this book a dozen times.

As the Cheezburger cats say: WANT! :yup:

Will you please ask her where she got that (I assume it's available online)? :)

Yesterday was my anniversary of joining CFC 17 years ago in 2001. IIRC, I needed help with Civ III.

I want that T-shirt too.

You've gone through 17 ears since joining this forum? What happened to them, and where did you get your replacements?
Yeah, I'm looking at hearing aids now.

BirdJaguar lives in New Mexico, thus he has a left ear, a right ear and a southern frontier.

:woohoo:

Finally after years looking for it, i found an used ex-demo Quintana Roo Superfull triathlon wetsuit. I have an old one bought 7-8 years ago which even full of holes and repairs continues being the best among the countless wetsuits of all brands i have ever tried. Problem is Quintana Roo stopped making neoprenes six years ago and centered in triathlon bikes. So it is really lucky to find this pearl now, which looks in perfect shape too.

(BTW, after visiting Quintan Roo's web, it seems they are making wetsuits again, with a new model to be launched next month, it is going to be high range though which means six hundred bucks or more)
