I can name that turn in three notes!

I learned chess 54 years ago.

When and how you learned these openings? How/why did you have motivation for learning more openings? When I learned chess Spanish and Italian/Sicilian were the most popular.

I never studied an opening in my life. I just try stuff and what seems to be working I keep on trying. Chess.com tells me the name of whatever opening I play, but back in the day when I just played over the board I didn't know them by name other than the really well known ones that some opponent might say something about. I read one chess book when I was a teenager, but it didn't say anything about openings as I recall.

I get a newsletter every couple of days from this guy who is fighting the local government over a veteran's cemetary. The Friday edition of his newsletter lists fun stuff to do in town over the weekend and in the past it alerted me to trail openings and closures in the area.

Yesterday's email led with "DO YOU WANT TO BUILD A COLONY ON MARS?"

Say no more fam.

There's some people from JPL hosting a discussion on outer space colonies today at a local library. The way the flier was worded makes it seem like they want to form an advocacy or action group to help push this cause forward. I'm pretty sure it's going to be a bunch of kooks but I'm still game to show up and hear them out. I would totally donate some time to support that cause. I'm super duper excited about this, I bolted awake at 530am today (Saturday) thinking about it. I have so many ideas about this these guys are going to regret opening the meeting to the public.

Another rave: I got a ton of karma on Reddit for my space spamming. Someone asked about the Moon's ability to have an atmosphere and I was actually able to share studies that have been done on it and talk about it. Crazy coincidence: the Mars Colony guys used images in their flier that came from the main study I cited on Reddit in this instance.

Bamboozled again!

The program was for children but the flier did not make that clear. Oh well, it was a pleasant drive out there and it was cool seeing the future crop of space cadets getting their indoctrination. The place was *packed*.

I swapped some of the cardboard boxes and books that make up my standing desk for some newer, bigger cardboard boxes. It's now a bit more stable and everything is at the correct height and level though it keeps getting uglier. Oh well, I need function and not form right now plus this didn't cost me anything. A padded mat that I ordered finally arrived and worked even better than I hoped it would, no screaming heels after an 8 hour shift on my feet. :D

Last night I saw that one of my neighbors threw out 2 big-screen LCD TV's with sticky notes that say 'works' on them. I thought to myself it would be awesome to swap my two medium computer monitors for 1 huge one so I snagged one of the discarded TVs. I don't know why I thought this would work - the cardboard boxes I'm using are not sturdy enough to support its weight. So now I have to lug it back down to the dumpster.
