I know the answer to this one
The communist kind who don’t understand things like supply and demand!
LOL. And what's with those inland ghost cities? Don't they understand location, location, location e.g. sea-side Miami views?

My random thought: movies don’t have enough spinning newspapers nowadays.
Doubleplus good observation!
In rating a movie, I deduct a point if it doesn't start with either a spinning newspaper
or a sepia map with a small airplane flying over it and leaving a dashed line.

People who deliberately misspell words are lexiconoclasts.

Who is growing these?

This is what the Minister of Education had to say, when announcing yet another panel, in her quest to find anybody in Alberta who isn't already either in government or her bosom buddy to give positive feedback to the pile of <censored organic bovine waste> she calls a curriculum:

Adriana LaGrange said:
I'm so pleased to announce the creation of a Minister's Parent Advisory Council and Teacher Advisory Council. These two councils will give parents and teachers another way to share their views on education policies and the vision for education. I want to encourage any parent/guardian of school aged children or teach to apply.
Can you spot the reason why this woman needs to hire a proofreader or go back to school herself?

I see nothing wrong. She either wants:
  • to encourage parents of schoolchildren
  • to apply for one of the councils, a prerequisite being some kind of teaching exercise

Re-read the quoted material, please. There's an error in it. This woman has not one minute of actual classroom teaching experience. Even I'm more qualified to teach than she is, and I only made it through the first year of a B.Ed. degree before realizing that it and I were not a good fit. Those months of practicum, however, are time and experience I have never forgotten. LaGrange has already done surveys whose results she trashes if they don't agree with her stance, panels she ignores, and she keeps blathering about wanting "rich feedback." She's been given feedback by tens of thousands of teachers, parents, students, and citizens already. She's just desperate to find someone - anyone - who will agree with her.

This bit caught my eye:

"I want to encourage any parent/guardian of school aged children or teach to apply."

Quite apart from that it should rather say "teacher", the lack of commas means that this could also be (mis)read as asking parents/guardians of teachers to apply to the panel

I was also a bit dubious about the singular possessive "Minister's", but if the Advisory Panels are only for the Education Minister, I suppose it works.

Is this woman basically Dolores Umbridge for real...?

I have seen that ninety-something percent of Covid deaths in the US are now among people who have not been vaccinated. This could impact the Republican Party and the Trump Cult negatively.

Well, I think it's in the nature of a cult that they reject little details like reality, so it may mean nothing to them. :dunno:

It's more than 99%, btw. According to the Assoc. Press, 150 of the 18,000 deaths from Covid-19 in May in the U.S. were people who had been vaccinated.

ı like spent 5 minutes reading this page and the previous to reach a conclusion that my writing is convulated and stuff ; otherwise Sheik Spear would fail to do justice to me as well , steam navy of the Turks being so much desirable against the Armada that Elizabeth offered conversion to lslam and so on ...

malignant and turbaned r16 thing up there somewhere ; and yeah , those who study real history have always known ...

I check on Craig Venter's lab every few months to see what might have crawled out.
Haven't visited it for a while, but it could be one of his new Synthias. :)

I can't find the photoshopped version of her face on Dolores Umbridge's body, but I'm not kidding; the resemblance is scary especially when Adriana wears pink.

Okay, some of the captions here are sarcastic and snarky and the work of people who are tired of her BS. But the photos are of her - her smug, smirking, absolutely clueless "I've put forth half a dozen surveys, panels, and zoom meetings already and nobody likes it except a few of my adoring supporters, the curriculum authors, my colleague the MLA for Red Deer South (who hasn't read the curriculum, but so what, it's a great curriculum), and my Sun media buddies who can always be counted on for a nice defense of me when those horrible teachers are all bullying me, so the best course of action is to spend $$$$$ on radio ads promoting the curriculum and set up another panel but stack it with UCP supporters who are under a gag order so even if they don't like the curriculum they can't say anything about it and we'll just tell the public they love it" attitude.

That brooch on her right lapel says "Children First". She has NEVER put the children of this province first. Her idea of support during the pandemic is to issue TWO disposable masks per child (not per day, in sum total) and a bottle of hand sanitizer per classroom.

This is part of the Grade 4 social studies curriculum. The part of this that is absolutely mind-crogglingly moronic is on the right-hand side: "Take out a map of Alberta... Calculate the distance... from Regina to Duck Lake..."

Um, Adriana? This is an exercise that is impossible to do. Grade 4 kids can't do it. Not even university students could do it. Why is that?

BECAUSE NEITHER REGINA NOR DUCK LAKE ARE IN ALBERTA. They are in Saskatchewan.

If she's still around by the next election in 2023 and runs again, she will likely blitz this building, as it's in her riding and most people here tend to vote right-wing. If she does run again, I plan to keep a map of Alberta handy, and tell her that I've been diligently searching for TWO YEARS to find Regina and can't. I give up. Please, Adriana, tell me how to find Regina on this map. I thought I was smart at geography, but I'm embarrassed to say that I can't even match the skills of a Grade 4 student.

Ditto on locating gravity on a globe. That's another assignment mentioned in the curriculum. I did find Gravity, as in Gravity, Iowa. It's a village of less than 200 people. But that's not what the assignment is talking about. It's talking about gravity, in the physics sense.

One of the people she hired to write the social studies curriculum is a genocide-denying racist who claims that the native residential schools were actually good places where the parents wanted their kids to go, and every last one of those dead kids whose remains were found in unmarked graves this summer died of TB.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission brought forth 92 recommendations, which have to be followed. One of them is to incorporate lessons about the residential schools into the curriculum from Grade 1 on up to high school and in any university course that may be applicable.

This curriculum doesn't do that. The excuse? "It's too sad." The comeback from those who oppose the curriculum: "If the native kids weren't too young to be kidnapped, starved, beaten, and sexually abused, the non-native kids aren't too young to learn about it."

But hey, let's just substitute lessons about burning Joan of Arc at the stake and shoehorn bible verses in and pretend it's "poetry."

At least she doesn't giggle like Umbridge. But every time I see a new photo on her FB page, especially if she's wearing pink and a smug expression, I can't help wishing for a herd of centaurs to carry her away.

The cabinet was shuffled a few days ago. Some people naively hoped she'd be shuffled out of this portfolio or demoted to the back benches. It won't happen, though. They have too much $$$$$$$ invested in this travesty.

Are we sure the council is not meant to advise the minister’s parents?
I don't know if her parents are still alive, but if I were related to her, I'd change my name and hide. Honestly, I have no idea how her kids and grandchildren manage to function. Unless they're kept away from the media, they have to know that she's one of the most hated people in Alberta.

It's customary when criticizing a politician to leave their underage children/grandchildren out of it, but she keeps bringing them up herself - she thinks that having children and grandchildren is what qualifies her to be the Minister of Education (along with formerly sitting on the Catholic school board in Red Deer, but not even her former colleagues or the current board want anything to do with her or this curriculum; they're among the 55+ out of 61 boards that have refused to pilot it).

Ah, I see the issue, you need to look on a Flat-Earth model of Earth and then you'll see the physical manifestation of gravity in the shell of one of the turtles that carry the world on their back. Common mistake, but how silly of her to suggest a globe!

I really don't think "actually these schools were just horribly disease-ridden and somehow we just ended up burying all the native kids in unmarked graves but none of the teachers got sick and died" is the shining evidence of the schools being good that they think it is, but you just can't have genocide denial without going "UM ACKSHYUALY it was natural causes" to thousands of deaths, can you?

Have you read De Chelonian Mobile? It is a most influential work.

Nothing. It’s what the cool nihilists are doing.

I have body issues, I can't explode into thousands of bats to get out of social situations.

Channel Nein.

Xμ. I am not sure it would improve things much, all other things being equal, if one could explode into thousands of bats to leave. The exit becoming repetitive would diminish the soothing effect.

I'd like to be an immortal vampire, though.
