One thing I can say is that you do not want to read The Turner Diaries News of the Weird. That’s just… not good.

Don't ask me why but I bet if any American citizen ever conducts their own private nuclear test, it's going to be Liza Minnelli. Maybe because of her razzie award from Arthur II.

uh , a widespread feeling of warlords with extraordinary means . Like , why do people even respond to forum members' pressure ? Uh , this basically skirts the PDMA . Who invented that short one anyhow , it is like Star Warsian , sounding like Padme even !

The organization of discussions in this forum is a little intimidating. I see all discussion is lumped into giant threads. I usually interpret threads as "you should probably read through the history so you don't say what has been said before already", and would typically expect multiple threads to occur per piece of news, rather than just one giant thread for the war in Ukraine, for example. But I guess we're fairly forgiving here and I can just jump in, eh?

I agree. Lets overthrow the system and post interesting articles in their own sted!

Let's hope this is 100% fake.

I like that the civil war was fought between Britain and Australia, not going to lie.
Have you ever seen Rick Mercer's "Talking to Americans"? I'm guessing some of these people must have been faking (I hope), but some are honestly and truly that stupid.

I got into an argument with a customer service agent in the U.S. one time about shipping charges, and she informed me that the reason the charges were so high to Canada is because it costs a lot more to ship overseas.

She had a hard time wrapping her brain around the idea that Canada is actually not overseas in relation to the U.S. unless something is being sent from Hawaii. I told her that if she were to go outside and start walking north, she would eventually get to my city - since we were in the same time zone, at roughly the same longitude. She would probably have to cross rivers and maybe a lake, but no oceans.

So again, what's with the insane shipping charges? And don't tell me it's for "overseas."

I really hate stupidity in customer service people, especially when it's willful.

I guess it would help if they would stop showing maps that only show the U.S. and that have Alaska and Hawaii situated in directions that bear no resemblance whatsoever to their true locations.

Actually the US uses ‘overseas’ for ‘foreign countries’ because ‘foreign’ and ‘alien’ can have multiple meanings.

E.g. from the POV of a member state of the Union, which one's which? Foreign or alien?
From another country.
From another state that is also a member of the U.S. of A.

(leave aside weird cases like Guam and Puerto Rico where, furthermore, people can be US nationals without being US citizens.

That's ridiculous. Overseas means crossing an ocean (or sea, or whatever salt water body separates your country from some other country that can't be reached by land).

I'm not saying that it's good or bad, I'm just describing how it is.

To be honest, this is what I actually expected. That every now and then there'd be a new thread on the Ukraine war with some new article, ensuing discussion. Then something else happens, new article, new thread, resume/new discussion on that.

Perhaps we should make a thread discussing optimal thread-making protocols and strategies...

I've been watching videos of how to get to arrivals at the airport from the train. There are no videos of this. So I have cobbled together a map in my mind by looking at videos from the other perspective: arrivals to the train.

Nothing complex, but I know I'm going to be stupendously nervous and I usually cannot think super well after an extended outing, so I want to minimize opportunities for confusion. This incidentally got me a video to send to my girlfriend so she knows what to expect for customs and baggage claim, and also gave me a good spot to stand while waiting for her.

Just a comment on what I do in these situations: Things can go wrong and you can be waiting for a long time. I always have a backup meeting point so that one does not need to wait for hours standing at the leaving customs door. The backup meeting point is generally the closest coffee shop to the arivials door.

Well, it's beyond dumb (them, not you). If something can get here by a land route, it's obviously not overseas.

There are likely lots of these in Site Feedback, and some are mentioned in the forum rules.

It was half-joking and I'll instead adapt to the emergent protocols existing forum members have already been operating under.

If you have the energy, then I'd say just go a day (or few days) before to the airport and check where you need to go.
Then you're at least not stressed about yourself.

The city treats the airport like a moneymaker. It costs $9.25 to go there. :crazyeye:
