I'm trying to understand patreon

8% of the money you earn you get to keep? Am I reading this wrong? Why tf would anyone sign up for that & not just ask people to donate on PayPal??

Some people do both. The musicians in Wuauquikuna have a Patreon setup, and they also do livestream concerts every Saturday and Sunday, and it's like online busking. Some people give them donations via PayPal and the amounts are shown above the chat. Since these guys have fans from all around the world, it's fascinating to see the variety of currencies people use. They also sell CDs, downloads, and Native American art items on their bandcamp site.

There are others on YT who are sponsored, so there's a sales pitch to listen to. At least Shadiversity incorporates his sponsor into whatever his episode is about. This tends to involve a bit of playacting, so it makes the ad seem like an entertainment and isn't quite as annoying.

Sorry, I was half-asleep when I made that post. I've fixed it now.

no problem at all . Got the situation (mentioned in them) reversed to the beginning of the week or whatever .

and it should perhaps be re-said that large online sites and stuff find it convenient to demand a large of scale of gain because of the advertising advantages . As such some author starting his own website because he would make 10 times the money if his book was ordered from his site , instead of the large scale marketing thing that the single option before .

that the Prussian Army had men who could think has shaped the world for the last 160 or so years .

It was about a lower rank, to be precise, a lieutenant, who thought it wise to interpret the command of his marshal.
Ironically, if he had not, the command would have been carried out - but since he did, it did not.
It didn't help that the marshal gave him more information than needed, because he thought he was talking to a vegetable.

not sure about the full name but this Auftrag Taktik or whatever has long been holier than Bible in the West where minor ranks are given merely a general outline of intented aims and left free to achieve it on their own . It actually doesn't happen at all but was useful proparaganda against Soviet automatons and minions . With the provisions or whatever that it is no attack , haven't read the thing up above and so on . It might be good literature , of which ı wouldn't be one to judge .

It was not an attacking mission. And you might like the story - easy to find it online :)
The lieutenant was told to carry a message to Krakow, with the marshal's order that a polish noble was to be executed.
But the lieutenant decided to do more than that, which led to him doing less than that.

I was at mall today. An old woman, approximately 90 years old, was standing next to me. She was before me, buying a packet of cream. Before her there was a woman with a shopping cart. While the old woman was paying for her cream, the saleswoman had already slipped it away on the tape. The cream was grabbed by a woman with a shopping cart and she rushed out of the store. When the old woman had paid and was looking for the cream, the saleswoman said that it is none of her business, she must count the money, and the old woman must take care of her own purchase. The old woman was not satisfied and stayed in the store to watch the video with the saleswoman of the woman grabbing her cream. In the meantime, the saleswoman had sold me my products and I was walking out of the store.

So basically this was a robbery of a packet of cream, worth like 1.5 euros. The mall doesn't have any guards just security cameras.

I was a bit surprised, seeing one woman, about 50 years old, robbing second, the gray-haired one. It couldn't be a mistake, because people know what they buy and younger one took that packet of cream intentionally.

So, how is mall in your country? Are there security guards still? How is situation in USA/Canada supermarkets? This one was rather huge with a parking lot for 50+ cars.

So you witnessed the robbery and said nothing in the old woman's defense?

By this point the manager should have been called, the video reviewed by the manager, and if they refused to make things right with the old woman, the police should be called. Not that they shouldn't be called anyway about the theft.

There's a difference between security in stores and mall cop security. Things have become a bit distorted due to covid and the social distancing rules that some places still insist on, even though the premier struck those down.

The current issue going on in stores here is the rise in self-checkout and then some stores insist on checking receipts at the door to make sure people haven't stolen anything. This, coupled with the fact that plastic shopping bags aren't legal for stores to use now so the customer is responsible for bagging/boxing their own purchases, has resulted in a nightmare.

Customers are not legally required to submit to these searches unless the store has reason to believe that a theft has occurred. Store personnel are not allowed to restrain or even touch a customer. The only times when receipts have to be shown is when the customer has agreed to do so when they joined some sort of membership agreement allowing it (ie. Costco).

Walmart has been pulling this for years. This 'we need to put tape over your bag' when you're walking into the store so you won't slip anything else into it is tantamount to saying, 'you've just walked into the store and we think you're going to steal from us'.

Then this 'we need to look in your bags'... holy crap. One guy was even about to open my containers of takeout Chinese food, and at that point I lost my temper in a rather spectacular way, telling him to get his filthy fingers out of my food, he did NOT need to search my bags, and get away from me. If he had actually opened my food containers, I would have gone to the manager and insisted on being repaid for what would have become contaminated food (that I'd bought in the food court).

When it comes to security in these places, I wonder if they give everyone a reading test and hire the ones who fail. One day I walked into Walmart, and security immediately wanted to inspect the banker's boxes I'd purchased... from Staples, that were still in their original wrappers. They mumbled something about "making sure" and I asked them, "So you're suspicious that I'm walking out of here with items sold at Staples, that are clearly marked as a Staples product, that are still in the original packaging, and I'm walking INTO the store? Go call Staples - I bought these about 10 minutes ago."

I did tell the salesperson that I saw the woman taking the cream pack (her face) and I as a witness can testify. The miserable thing about this situation is that I doubt they will call police unless the elderly lady really pushes them and files a complaint.

We still use plastic bags in Latvia although there are posters encouraging customers to use their own Eco-friendly bags.

On the other hand, I can understand you - I always keep my receipts intact and in good shape to show security guards, because I usually check 2-3 stores for best prices.

When I told this to my mom, she said that the event is a proof of wickedness, because if the robbed lady is indeed 90, she had her pension issued 27 years ago when pensions were really small in Latvia. And for her 1.5 euros can be a lot.

I specifically avoid purchasing in the cheapest supermarket in town to avoid security guards and people who smell. This taught me that system is flawed and salesperson` s attitude "You just got robbed, because YOU weren't careful" is inhumane. Makes me wonder, how to properly establish security which isn't "in your face" 6 feet men checking your bags every other week and isn't "we call police only if shop gets robbed, we don't care if customers get robbed".

This is the "Mickey and Friends" parking structure, in Disneyland. Many people have (deliberately) fallen to their deaths from the top floor.
Likewise for the hotel in the park.
Suicides make up a little less than half of the (known) deaths in the park; roughly 30 deaths in all.

By the way, that is some cheap sculpture.

People go to Disneyland to kill themselves?

Or is it just that Disney kills them?

They suck your soul out at that place, I can feel it.

Disney's handy for when you enter an avatar contest and the theme is talking anthropomorphic animals. I was allowed three, so I chose Baloo from The Jungle Book, Robin & Marion from Robin Hood, and Marie from The Aristocats (might have picked Thomas O'Malley and Duchess, but that would have meant two romantic ones, and I wanted a better assortment).

Yes, and those are all from, what? 50 years ago? They'd already been made when I was born.

I was 4 when The Jungle Book came out in 1967.
I was 7 when The Aristocats came out in 1970.
I was 10 when Robin Hood came out in 1973. So they're hardly from the Dark Ages.

I've never actually seen The Jungle Book. We did learn one of the songs in my Grade 7 music class, though ("The Bare Necessities").

(we had a diverse syllabus in that class - everything from Sesame Street to Carmen)

If I wanted anthro-art, I'd search furry art (with safe search on), but I do remember Robin and Marion as foxes. :)
