RBW1 - The True Isolationist

playing now sorry:) made the mistake of buying nwn2..... eeeeeekkkkk as always I'll edit in a few screen shots.

preturn: Ok looking over our empire and I notice the "junk" units in medina are, for the most part, highly exped units.. We have 3 city raider3 trebs (one of which is sitting at 13 exp for another promotion) that can upgrade to cannon and 2 cr3 macemen I'll beef up to grens will use about 700 gold for those 5 units but we have the cash coming in np.

we suddenly have a few cannon laying about.

I turn off research fir a turn or 2 in order to upgrade the cr3 units we have holed away.

our lone caveral is 8 turns from china to scout.

we need lots more boats near the assembly points for sure.

[1]1772 AD Whip the dry dock in philly then time to pump out galleons

[2]1774 AD sigh the distances involved make moving anything a bear. taking 5 turns just to get ships to assembly points much less to china. No real point drafting more units in the west simply because getting therm anywhere is gonna take far too long.

Gain another galley out of philly from overflow

Research back at 60% with 700 gold in reserve.

[3]1776 AD
whip a galley in philly abusing the globe for sure, upgrade george the cr 3 mace to gren as well. missed him.

[4]1778 AD more boring shuffling, good news is medina beat back some of sallys culture finally freeing up all those hill to mine.

[5]1780 AD great profit is born and points to divine right... really no idea what to use this guy for so save him for a golden.

[6]1782 AD snore

[7]1784 AD finally scout mao and he's spoting rifles for protection, good thing we have a few cr3 grens incoming lol.

gonna take the rest of my turnset to get the cannon up to bat. Shuffling up the galleons so that they all have a mix of units. not enough cannon to go around as they are still a few turns away but have a few.

[8]1786 AD mao has a pair of frigates active as do we. Not too bad since troops can be offloaded same turn war is declared.

moving the troops out and our gold per turn profit plummets.

[9]1788 AD mao's other town is similarly lightly defended.

[10]1790 AD ok all set ot declare war on mao, keep in mind he's protective, so promotions out the wazoo.

Split the armada into two taskforces

north

and south

In hindsight north is a bit more promotion crazy :smoke:

Both able to declare and land troops next turn, mao will sink a few ships no doubt but since the transports all have a single frigate for escort, the damage will be minor.

Have a reserve of 2 more galleons coming as everything is soooooo slow :) they too have a single frigate in the area for escort.

We have a great profit sitting about and it's a bit late to meld him... no real burning desire to blow him on divine right either.

Enjoy the war!

Cheers!

Mao has defense Pact with Hannibal. Not what I call good  We really cannot take on Hannibal right now. I think someone forgot to mention Mao signed a defense pact :mischief: . Not sure what to do, but I would say get our ships and move them to tokugawa and go after toku instead first. We will have assembly line and infantry by the time we get rid of toku, so we can stand up to Hannibal a bit easier by then. Thoughts?

arg my bad I didn;t even think to look at that I just went with the sg on mao war. Moving that stuff around was mind numbing for sure lol.

toku it is, keep in mind that you'll have the chance to shuffle the boats around a bit to even out the exp/canon. Keep in mind that our economy is surprisingly robust such that the moment we get assembly line, a few turns at 0% research can upgrade all those rifles/grens.

Cheers!

Complete.

Start off by starting our fleet towards tokugawa. I decided to send our entire fleet north the kagoshima way instead of through the south. Toku has quite a bit of land even though hes behind in tech like usual.

Steam power researched in second turn. I set research to Railroad on the way to destroyers and combustion. Surprisngly though, we only have 1 coal, and very close to hannibals border. wow...

Just for the hell of it, I tell saladin to stop trading with Hannibal :p . Thats probably 7 or 8 commerce from that city to hannibal, so it is somewhat worthwile.

Since our workers have nothing better to do, I am building roads all over the place so it will be easier to build railroads once we get the tech..

I only played 5 turns because I didnt have time to do more, so next player gets to have some fun with tokugawa. Im pretty sure toku will split his forces and send one through the south while the other through the north. The southern stack will take forever to reach our core, by then we will probably have killed most of him. I have around 5 frigates near our cities to beat up any stacks that come from him. I emphasized cannons in most of our cities, cannons are city taking machines, while rifles and grenadiars can be used to just support them. Also, just demand tokus 300 gold before we declare on him. :crazyeye:

Save:

Unless toku has some coal, might want to plunk a town next to that coal just for culture.. out of all that land, only one coal is just silly.

Cheers!

no problem. Playshogi, you are up now! 10 turns each or 5 turns each is both fine, since turns are going to be quite long from now onwards. Whatever you want to do is fine..

Due to recent issues, I must withdraw from this game. My wife just went into the hospital, and between that and some other recent issues, I just don't have the inclination to finish. Good luck to you all, and thanks for the opportunity.

Errr I played my turns (5 of them), but we could be in trouble here.

T1: Pentagon BIDL. Suffer a revolt in Medina.

T2: Demand Toku's 320 gold, declare and land at Heliopolis, where his mobile units and his fleet are. I'm going to keep the troops together at the start to deal with a counterattack (not sure how the new AI behaves during invasion). After his mobile troops are dead we can split the stack up.

T3: On defense, we kill lots of japanese troops: 2 cats, 2 trebs, 3 knights. We lose a rifle. Then we raze heliopolis with the loss of 1 cannon. I was going to gift it back to the egyptians but for some reason that was not an option.

We take a hit from hatty as a result (-2 for razing her city). Gee, I sure hope that doesn't hurt us in the coming turns ...

T4:

Hannibal and Hatty declare on ourselves and Saladin. Fantastic! Hannibal has infantry. On defence, kill 2 japanese cats, lose the rifle I used to raze the previous city. We get a great scientist, which I use for a golden age together with our prophet.

T5: Lose a frigate and a rifle. Our stack is outside Kagoshima.

Bugger, I think I've screwed this game up. Our western coast is somewhat undefended, and I'm sure a carthaginian landing party will show up soon.

.
