Ravus is right. Why support our bitter enemy, Russia, just because we want better relations with the Buddhist block, who we know we will never be friends with anyway.

We will not end up in a Cold War anytime soon. (I hope) The main issue at hand is that we don't want to give RUSSIA income because of our Buddhist cities, and we don't want to lose income because of our Buddhist cities.

;)

Not that I support Buddhist convertion, but stuff like this makes me think that you're in a very McCarthy camp.

Trying to point out your attitude, and how it really can not fit in a post-war Europe.

@Gruekiller. The AI is dumb as mud. They will quite happily build a road all the way through egypt, past turkey, through Fred-Germany and down through Roman lands just to pasture some pigs or something.
its the main reason why I don't let my workers auto build (a worker of mine did this once)

@Cull and MN: I think its settled christianity > buddhism

We're not converting to buddhism, if thats what you're saying. The loss of happy, hammers via OR, as well as the minor culture, is just too much just to gain some diplo points.

Please note that Egypt has Divine Right, and that only two civilizations are willing to trade with us. I no longer believe that pursuing Divine Right is a good course of action, but of course, I imagine there will be some discussion.

The only monopoly tech we seem to have is Guilds, except that the newly formed Greece appears to have Guilds, as well (they can research Gunpowder, and Guilds is a pre-req). Normally, I wouldn't want to trade away such a powerful tech to our enemies, but we may want to think about seeing what Peter and Carthage will offer. We are badly behind, and there's a good chance that Alexander will trade Guilds to the Vikings and Russians anyway.

Some notes.

Guilds: 1000 Beakers on normal speed.
Engineering: 1000 Beakers
Paper: 600 Beakers
Philosophy: 800 Beakers
Drama: 300 Beakers
Compass: 400 Beakers
Music: 600 Beakers (trading for this would be a poor choice, in my opinion).

Ideally, we could trade Guilds to Peter for Engineering (unlikely, though, since he doesn't like us, he probably won't take a fair trade, but we may have some spare cash to tempt him with) and get Paper + Drama/Compass from Hannibal. If we're very quick, we may be able to turn around and trade Paper to the Russians for something cheap.

I value Engineering for Pikemen, but mainly for the faster road movement. Trebuchets are nice, too. Paper for Maps and leading to Liberalism. Getting Philosophy somehow would also be nice, as it would help us get to Liberalism faster.

We need to make some kind of trade immediately.

I agree also (not with Ilduce, x-post). However, it will be difficult to get everything to work out the way we want...

Yeah, I know. But we'll have to get what we can out of the trades before we lose our opportunity. Even getting anything will be better than nothing.

This sounds like a good plan.

Sounds good. However, another thing to note is that four civilizations can now research astronomy. When we don't even have compass. Yeah.

I say we just trade for WHATEVER we can get. Anything at all is helpful at this point, even if it's just some gold.

BTW, nice catch on the Great General thing there Ravus. Settling him in Birmingham means we get some REALLY powerful troops which at this point, I think we all agree are desperately needed.

Just a note with the Civ names btw, shouldn't it read "Arabian Caliphate" instead of "Caliphate of Arabia" etc? Or are both correct?

Both are correct. Caliphate is like kingdom. You can see the French Kingdom or Kingdom of France.
