Reload or play through? (Generic advice, not game-specific)

Ah, thanks Lennier. Nice to have some confirmation as I was beginning to think I was only person to have encountered this particular occurrence. And yes, I've read posts/references by TMIT regarding unintended DoW's but could never find info regarding how these actually occur.

Reloading can be a really good learning tool In another of the Strategy threads Serial and Ash..? are helping a new player get his game off the lower levels they are commenting and advising on saves every 10 turns and as all civaholics know it is hard to stop after just 10 measly turns so while he waits for his expert tuition he is playing ahead from his save.
This gives an overview and contrast from idealized play to the players own instincts and decisions for comparison.
I have picked up three things that could be better in my play just by following along
(yes Serial I build way too many {useless} buildings I just can't resist a nice full city sidebar!

I have reloaded a couple of times for strategic F%&$ ups I stole a worker from Napoleon not knowing the little *^£$ will never ever give over and let it go and once in my first Civ4 game #1 where I let a Buddist Mansa Musa - Pericles block form on a second continent While I Hatshetsup and my good Hindu buddy Ghandi consolidated the other I was in the position of choosing to Loose all my hard won new cities on the new continent to a Buddist counterattack or backstabbing my buddy Ghandi to grow big enough to muscle an invasion or the other continent (or go space)
#1 I played a little 1 and a fair amount of 2 then a bit of 3
