[R&F] Rise and Fall Screenshot discussion

So I guess that does confirm the first screenshot to be a Japanese city. I'm still under the impression that the third city is going to be a Russian one with updated architecture to distinguish it from the rest of European Civs.

The Lavras pretty much give it away.

True, but then there were the World Builder theories going around. I guess that means Canada not confirmed yet.

I know people were saying that the palace in that screenshot looks like a hotel de ville from Quebec or something, but I think the colors, albeit not the shape, look vaguely like Peterhof, Peter's palace. Maybe all the civs are getting personalized palaces if they don't already have one.

As already said, if Pedro could get an actual palace instead of an Aztec pyramid, that'd be great.

Buenos Aires should get a new palace as well. It's also a Mesoamerican pyramid in game.

Prediction:
February 8th, "Why do Brazil and Buenos Aires have Inca palaces? Waaaaaah"

I'm not hopeful for the Inca appearing in this expansion. But if they do, I'll be thrilled!
Not much female leader choices for them though.

It fits the "is this area of the world represented?" question along with North America and much of Africa though.
I personally don't think the relevance of the Civ appearing will have to do with "is there a female leader available?" but more of an afterthought after they pick the Civs they want. If I'm wrong Firaxis can correct me.

The South American Civ could be Argentina or Gran Colombia instead.
I know the Inca are a Civ mainstay (have been since at least Civ3), but Firaxis might want to appeal to Latin American players.

Although I would love Gran Colombia, I figured they at least would want to give players some Native American representation as we just have the Aztecs right now, as opposed to both America and Brazil already.
Besides the Aztecs will need somebody to share their palace with.

It just really doesn't look like Portuguese architecture, particularly with the dome and arched entrance way. I'd expect a feitoria to be more castle-like, with whitewashed walls and a tiled roof, like Elmina Castle:-

Spoiler Elmina Castle, a 15th century feitoria in modern Ghana :

yes, it is not Portuguese architecture. It looks like this Oman palace has trees like Myristica fragrans.

It could very well be something from Oman (and good point about the trees not necessarily being orange trees), but the issue is still finding a good match for the more distinct features like the triple gateway and the domes. Unless that happens all we can do is keep speculating.

I would like the Incas to have a different style palace than the Aztecs. The Maya can share the Aztec "palace". (I put it in quotes because it looks nothing like a real Mesoamerican palace would)

I'm just pessimistic about the possibility of more Amerindian Civs showing up in this expansion.

They've already said they're interested in filling in underrepresented areas. I'm sure we'll get at least one native civ, from either South or North America (I'd prefer the Inca and Haudenosaunee), even if they choose a post-colonial American civ as well.

I can't see how, if they want civs in under-represented areas, that they could not
put something on the PNW, the very southern tip of Africa, and the west coast of
South America. I would love to see the Yaghans in as well, but they were never
numerous and have no memorable leaders that could be used.

Remember that it's not just geography, but also chronology. You can have civs that occupy the same area, but at different times (Ottomans/Byzantines for example).

from the Introductory blog:
  • “Is this region of the world represented?”
  • “Is this time in history represented?”
  • “Is this represented/revered in previous Civilization games or totally new?”

Thought this chart might be helpful in regards to the question, "Is this time in history represented?" I placed each civ based on the era of its leader, not necessarily on the eras it existed (ie, Egypt isn't an "ancient" civ since Cleo reigned in Classical). I think I got everybody, but my apologies if I did not.

Gilgamesh

Trajan
Cleopatra
Qin
Tomyris
Gorgo/Pericles
