Role Play Challenge: Wang Kon the non-Isolated Isolationist

Indeed interesting so far. One small thing, you have posted one of the screenshots twice.

You finished off rag pretty quickly which is good. I think you're powerful enought and can focus on economy now, which means teching literature for NE mostly.
In case you still get attacked, you can whip some protective archeres/lbows when needed while your UU still isn't obsoleted so I don't see any danger there.
You can spam settlers in the meantime and get some libraries up. What about turning nearly every city into a cottage heaven and build one academy each? You wouldn't need a big empire to stay up to date technologically any can have only 2 production cities, where you put moai, IW and HE. The other cities can be converted into workshop-cities later.

Overall, you want to limit warfare, and I suggest warring only until you get the Hindu shrine.

edit: And I don't like the plan with internet as it's pretty boring me thinks.

Cottage, cottage, cottage!

You need to fix that economy, immediately.

Also, *SPOILERS*

An amazing site for a city. Four seafood in the BFC!

Edit: Agh, I meant to edit this into the other post. Sorry for the double post.

And I think this is a classic game for HOW [edited for content] FAST can we get the internet.
Is that really the right way to go? I've always felt that you have to go through so much of the modern era to get to the internet that you've already self-researched most, if not all, of the technology you could have gotten from the internet.

You need to start working those two gold tiles with another city and cottage up. I would try to get all of the cottage techs (printing press, democracy, etc.) to go with military. Frankly, though, I don't see Suleiman or Hammy attacking you if you keep your power rating decent. I think your next war will be one of choice.

China is the Ultimate toltarian/isolationist Economy...ok they have adopted free trade for exporting.

and they have the internet.

this is not a political discussion, just an observation.

Anyway, use the Old political regime, of Isolationist emperors of China, and you get the idea.'

Just don't end up like they did, and get craved up by the colonial powers that be of the day.

China? Ultimate tolitarian and isolationist? :crazyeye:

Probably one of the least isolationist countries around, if you ask me.

Anyway, it depends if Mad is playing as more as North or South Korea, on whether it's reasonable to build the internet ;) (and I think South, as they run a very successful "CE", as opposed to the North which runs an economy worse then Toku's)

I say alphabet and get some korean spies going. Nothing wrong with some spying in an isolationist game right?

you should have razed uppala so you could rebuild it to take the gold mines.

You also have to move your capital and find a GP farm. Colossus would probably help, and I wouldn't worry about getting both feudalism and machinery.

I only ralized afterwards how damned hard it will be to get those 2 gold fed. Well, we shall see. I think I need a coastal city though, there is fish out there. First things first, markets/courthouses.

Notes:
7 workers and like 10 cities.

Wonsan whip the statue. I still don't think you should have settled on it, the iron production is the only good tile, it's particularly easy to pillage 1E. Granary next.

pyongyang: this city doesn't have enough food to do much. I think you should cottage it. It should not be building a market with almost 0 commerce. Build a courthouse or worker first. GS for academy is ok I guess. +6 food pre civil service, you can cottage 6 plains. I would irrigate chain to wonsan (west rice, etc) to get it growing faster once you get civil service.

Pusan: I'd max food to get to the happy cap before i started working the mines. Better to work the cottages earlier. Other than unimproved and NO GRANARY it's ok.

Scythian: unimproved, no GRANARY. lighthouse or courthouse next. YOu can borrow food tiles from pusan (pusan switches to the other cottages tiles), whip courthouse, switch back.

Birka: Don't build a library, pump workers from here. Improve cows (you're building a cottage instead?!?), mine your grassland, take the plains hill from pyongyang, and just pump workers and add a courthouse.

Upsala: let me beat a dead horse. If you had razed and resettled 1S, you'd get all but one flood plain, which luckily nampo can work. This city just makes me so mad, you're giving up 2 gold mines. 2 gold mines!

Nidaros: library/market first. Too much commerce to waste. Stupid AI probably chopped the forests from deer/beavers.

Haithabu: if you're going to do the wall trick, I would advise building lots of workers and clear cutting some of them. Granary next of course.

Nampo: grow to cap first with sea tiles. You're not going high science slider as it is, so sea commerce is worth more to you than a faster library.

Seoul: grow to cap or build a worker. You don't need an aqueduct anytime soon, so there's no need to devote hammers to it.

Tech: Sure, metal casting if you want colossus. Calendar gives you 2 happy resources (spice, dye). Actually 3, I guess you don't get the silk from your plantation yet. I'd beeline education, maybe stopping for machinery for defense along the way. And you might want meditation, priesthood. And organized religion should be a priority.

New cities: 1N of the last viking city is ok. You can settle on the iron if you want, at least you'll get to work 1 gold, though that's probably a negative for your economy overall.

WOW, some list! Understand I had just destroyed Ragnar before the save, never a slam dunk for a protective leader!

Some things I have done, some not so. I am usually conservative on workers to limit maintenance costs. Nevertheless, the next segment has been played out! We seam to be doing well but lost the liberalism race by 5 turns to someone we have not met yet.

Segment to follow.

Wang Kon the non-isolated Isolationist: Part IV

Nothing really too exciting here except for teching and meeting a few AIs.

Tech path went MC/machinry which allowed us to build crossbows from Nidros which is weher we settled the GG. It is something to be pumping out CG II, combat I, drill I crossbows with their +50% versus melee.

After establishing military we went for calender and the happiness resources.

Then we started on the liberalism path: CS/Paper/Education/Ploy/PH/Med/Phil/Lib. We build an academy in Upsala rather than bulb education and wasted 2 turns getting poly/priesthood before polytheism all of which cost us a free tech. No fret, we shall presevere.

Now onto the game itself.

As I said, the GG was settled in Nidros, our second best production city.

WKD0000.jpg

we had a nice chance to help diplomacy with Suliman

WKD0001.jpg

However, in the flavor of the RPC we decided NOT to accept the best response, preferring to saty alone, both during good and bad times.

We adjusted civics after teching CS

WKD0002.jpg

We had already whipped most of the markets/libraries.

This was the best I could figure out for collecting the two gold.

WKD0003.jpg

The idea is to build infrastructure by working ONE gold tile and then chaining farms to the east for food and go back to the gold. Not the greatets of cities, but good enough.

we met an AI from overseas.

WKD0004.jpg

Generally easy to get along with but NOT trustworthy.

Our GS of the segment

WKD0005.jpg

OK, we missed liberalism by not bulbing. Let's see if that extra 50% beakers will pay off by the end, at least enough to offset the lost free tech.

We meet a few pion vassals
WKD0006.jpg

WKD0007.jpg

And saved there after finishing liberalism.

Our cities

WKD0008.jpg

As you can see, pushing the UB in each city. I think I also need a bunch of monestaries, but there is only so much we can do.

Our currect civics options.

So here I would like some advice, what to adopt? I have 3 turns for monarchy so I will wait until then.

1) HR is easy and make Suliman happy.
2) FS is more powerful for our game that Bur but that causes a diplo hit to Hammarabi.
3) FR is a big one for science but is a major diplomatic problem with hammarabi and Suliman but will certainly help with Cyrus.

PArt of me for the arrogance of the Isolated Koreans says just do what is best for us and forget the other AIs.

So one of those RPC times I really would like some suggestions on vicis here!

Power numbers are fairly close.

No Free Religion, the Korean people are of faith, and 10% science is very, very, minor.

Free Speech is a must, should be done immediately along with HR. Hammurabi can die. If he DoW's on you, raze Babylon and take peace.

You need to build A LOT of missionaries, spread Hinduism to every city! Hurry up!

You should make a world map trade maybe. It's so irritating mapping the whole world, and the Koreans want to know who else is out there, trying to bother them. ;)

do whats best for you, if the AI wants to fight you its a few more cities for Korea.
I have faith in your war mongering skills.

He might want to wait until he has towns instead of hamlets and vlliages.

Korea and free speech???? That is something they don't know very well (according to a korean guy I know). Bureaucracy however is :P Not really RPC like.

Keep it coming.
