RoM Latest Version

"Dial-up" is slang for a modem connection, because it uses your phone line, dialling your internet connection. Anyone in their twenties or more cannot forget the sound of a 56 Kb modem dialling the Internet :)

:dubious:

Yeah....If I wanted to write a long e-mail, I always used notepad and then copy/paste just to limit the connection time....

Ah yes. If you found an article you wanted to read, you located the page, went offline and then read the page :) We've never had it so good.

BTW in Japan and Europe they have faster internet, (As long as you are in Western in is fast)

*sigh* All this talk about dial-up makes me sad :(

But, back to RoM, finished the full version, applied the patch, did AND, applied patch, it loads, I go through the pedia, awesome, just awesome!!! :goodjob: How do you change stuff so much?? I never expected the UI to change

First impressions, the mod looks extremely polished. At first glance through the pedia, aside from the Hittite LH's eyes and the new Zulu guy's feathers in the back, all the leaders look great!!!

Very good xmas present, I must say :D Thank you very much.

PS: While the game loads and plays very smoothly, one time, I played a large map game, then quit to main menu, then started a huge map game and it game me a "Fatal Error - Memoy something blah blah" thing as it loaded and crashed on clicking OK.

Anyway, I'd like to know if there's something I could show (if it crashes again) to help debug, you know, like logs and stuff?? :p If yes, where can I find them??

Memory errors are because your computer runs out of RAM. Since you only have 2gb, I recommend maps no larger than Standard size...

Jonaleth,

Do this:

Are you letting Windows run your Video performance settings?

If you are, Windows will hog your Ram.

Right click My Computer select System Properties then the Advanced Tab. 1st section under Advanced is Performance settings click to open. Then Select Visual Effects tab(should be the 1st tab). Adjust for Best performance or Custom.
I have used both but have settled on Custom as there are only about 5 options you really need.
Then select Advanced tab and check paging size at bottom. I use 2046MB.

Above the Paging file size I have also selected in both sections: Programs.

If you change the Paging file size and select Programs be sure to click Apply at the bottom then Ok.

Since you only have 2GB of ram this will help tremendously.

Sidenote about Dial-up; My Dial-up 2 years ago allowed me to D/L at 4kbs and upload at 12kbs. Think about that!

I'm only 1 step above that now with Satellite DSL, 1Mbs download burst (then about 100kbs) Upload is 200kbs (so they say, but is actually about 50kbs). Major improvemnet for me but still nowhere near Broadband. (I work for Comcast and am dying cause I live in the country and can't get the companies HSI :( )

Thank you for that tip :) (I should probably add another 2 GB of RAM soon)

I've always used a 4 GB page file (dunno why, but space was never an issue) but I'll try the performance tweaks.

Otherwise, I've started a standard map, and it plays out pretty smooth and without crashing. I noticed that stuff takes longer to build in the mod, probably to offset the new buildings and stuff that help you build stuff faster.

- Some civics lack a description (like Slavery has) in the advisor tooltip.
- The Barbarian sevopedia LH entry seems to have Sid Meier on it :D (is it intended or does Civ4 - use Sid as some sort of default LH if the original LH didn't load up??)
- Really love the new city art!!!
- Sometimes when I trade stuff, 5-7 lines of "TradUni - Missing State 6" or "Missing State 18" appear in the message box
- Is the sevopedia/civic screen not supposed to be fullscreen when you're higher than 1024x768??

Thank you for the mod again!!! :)

I suspect it is something to do with Vista. Because when I upgraded to 7, that problem vanished into dustbin of my computer usage history :).

That's from AND and afforess knows about it.

Which also means that you are playing RoM with AND and that takes even More Ram than RoM alone.

So some of your post shuld be in the ModMod sub forum instead of here for regular RoM.

JosEPh :)

Thank you joseph :) But slight problem here, I have nil idea of what error's from AND or RoM, so ... if there was a way to check, I'd be happy to know :D

@os79: I have XPHome :p Thanks for your concern though!

Generally if you have a Mod installed with ModMods (like AND) you should post there 1st(ModMod sub forum). Then the ModModder can tell you if the problem is Modmod related or core RoM related or even if it's from BUG or REVDCM which are Major components of RoM.

If of course, you are relatively new to RoM and haven't played much Core RoM (with out ModMods) then posting in the main forum is where you start.

Your XP Home is 32 bit XP? If it is you might need to consider the /3GB switch for your boot.ini .
There's a thread here about it. You may have to dig back a page or 2 to find it. Might help performance some.

Welcome to RoM. :D

err it is a really primitive internet connection?

FYI I'm 17 I've heard of Broadband, DSL, Modem and T1

I'm afraid that's quite funny! :) Dial up was the "good old days" when we had to use normal phone lines with a modem and send data over that. You called a phone number, a modem answered, they established communications and your connection was SLOW!!

I remember trying to send emails and receive them living on a farm with dial up AND a party line! eeek!! Not to mention all possible email providers were long distance. At least I got a private line before I found online games or web surfing! When we moved to town we got a second line, that helped, then finally our little town moved to DSL about ten years ago. whew!!

did you think DSL was awesome when you first got it?

I still remember enough to consider it awesome. :) It's all I can get! I live in a farming community of 250 people about 30 miles from the real world and 60 miles from anything resembling shopping.
