Ronald Reagan

Argument from the dictionary...probably one of the most juvenile forms there is. As if every word on earth can be accurately reflected in 2-3 sentences.

Yes, the use of dictionaries is so juvenile... completely idiotic.

It stands as a pretty good baseline until further, more elaborated definitions are agreed upon... and since that will never, ever happen in this forum when it comes to the word "socialism", as about 1,000,000 different posts in the threads here has demonstrated...

I guess I'll just be juvenile (and understood).

If we are going for simple definitions of what something is, I take it you won't be looking at Socialism as defined by the Frankfurt Declaration?

You know, since this is a Reagan thread, I think the only relevant commie comment for this thread is this... most relevant part right at the end around 3:50.

I like the part where he offered to give Breshnev time on US TV if Breshnev would give Reagan time on Russian TV. Fat chance! Can't have uncensored, free speech in the USSR! That might give people too much freedom.

I was going to mention that part too Kochman, it's easily the best part of that video. I'm surprised i've never heard of that offer before, it just shows what kind of confidant leader the US had back in those days - today we have Obama bowing to Saudi kings..

Reading that post completely cold would simply suggest that the President knows how to be polite to other heads of state.

I'd suggest using a political science textbook instead, largely because of what was discussed immediately prior.

Or it's just a tactic for distracting from a reasonable discussion of the terms of a debate, that elementary schoolers frequently employ...but hey, suit yourself.

Bush bowed to Saud too...
Almighty oil rules.

Well, short of everyone getting the same text book...
It is a saying, by the way, folks... "textbook example"... jeez.

Yeah, because when I was in elementary school, everyone was like, "hey, it doesn't say that in my Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary!!!"
Dictionary use then stopped when I hit Junior High.

Good call.

I will suit myself... and retain the use of dictionary for quick, unified reference in day to day life.

If you want to stick your fingers in your ears that's your prerogative, but you've utterly failed to provide a convincing argument if you're relying on Webster.
