ROTQM03: Return of the Quantum Monkies

I just wanted to let everyone know that I have played, but I haven't written anything up. I ended up losing a bunch of stuff for the writeup, so I'll have to make shtuff up. (Ruff, my My Docs folder is mapped to a network drive (x:\) and I don't think your mod can find it.) Anyhow, to let you know how things went, my last two turns, I killed 7 swords, 5 Axes, 8 Chariots, 1 Archer, and 1 Galley. The enemy never sent a bunch of units in at once, but I probably killed about five units/turn average. Zero losses. Story to come tonight.

How annoying. Was that with the beta version? Look for a directory 'autolog' under your civ4 directory - there is code there so that it creates that directory if it isn't present.

Edit: Just tested the code to create the logging directory if not present and it works. I suggest that you don't use 'default' in future and give it a specific directory.

Guys, I'm taking a pass on story-telling. I came down with the flu yesterday and it just got worse as the day progressed. Sorry for the dry read, but I figured that was better than waiting until I'm well again.

Thanks for understanding.

Most of this set was trying to keep the enemy from getting past Mr. T-ville. Mostly, they tried with chariots, but I got all of them. This last axeman only managed to pillage because I couldn't attack twice in the same turn.

And last, if I'd written a story, Mr. Chimps was going to send Chief Chaka out to found Sleestak City

I really am very ill right now. I won't even watch football today. Not that I'll get any good games with the Panthers blacking out any game that runs opposite to them. Bulls**t!

I don't think the pop-ups are a mod. I think it is an option - I get them in my no-mod games too.

Three monkeys stand on a road looking at a jungle, perplexed.

"What did Mr Chimps asked us to do again?"

"I think he asked us to build roads."

"But how do we do that?"

"Don't know."

"Didn't we built this road here that we are standing on?"

"U-huh, I think so."

"So how did we built it?"

"Don't know."

"Geez ... building road used to be so simple ... now we simply don't know how to start."

"Hmmm ... so what to do?"

"Let's chop some trees and clear some jungles ... we may find bananas ..."

"Okie dodie."

* Chop .. Chop ... Chop *

RotQM03-AD0455-wheel.jpg

Now, that is a huge tech splash!

"Wooho, I remembered how to build a road now!"

----

"Chaka, didn't I asked you to go find Sleestak city?"

"Yes, you certainly did, sir."

"Then why are you still sitting here?"

"Because, there is a couple of spanish axes just unload out of the galleys."

"Hmm ... what is our galleon doing?"

"It is defending the sea resource on the other side."

RotQM03-AD0350-attack.jpg

"What sea resources? Did the workboats finally remembered how to cast a net!?"

"Yes, they finally did, sir."

"I have dispatched our entire northern defences toget rid of the spanish axes ..."

While attacking, Axeman loses to: Spanish Axeman (4.00/5) (Prob Victory: 50.0%)
While attacking, Archer loses to: Spanish Axeman (2.50/5) (Prob Victory: 13.6%)
While attacking, Archer loses to: Spanish Axeman (0.80/5) (Prob Victory: 86.0%)
While attacking, Archer defeats (3.00/3): Spanish Axeman (Prob Victory: 100.0%)

"So tell me why are you still sitting here, Chaka?"

"Well ... the smart one figured Sleestak is to be founded near the horses, and it so happen that the forest is besides the horses. I am afraid of the forests, sir. You better get those monkey who are pretending to be roading but actually chopping jungles to come chop the forest away first."

"$#%$^##@!"

----

"The enemy has been engaged."

"The enemy has been engaged."

"The enemy has been engaged."

"The enemy has been engaged."

"The enemy has been engaged."

""The enemy has ... "

"Would someone stop that damned chattering!!!???"

"But those humans are like ants ... they are swarming the place! They are everywhere!"

"Now get hold of yourselves, Bubles! Even though we forgot how to build the M16, but be grateful we still knew how to use them!"

----

This turnset has been endless battle followed by battle ... good thing is most of our infrantries can heal while moved, so most of them would heal back to full strength after a battle. Guess thisis what we would be doing until the next event trigger ... just keep picking off these mindless minions and gathering experience points for our infantries.

Of course. I understand how beneath you it is to write nonsense on this board.

Cluttered Roster:

Rex Tyrannus: Bright-green phlegm is your friend, too.
GreyFox: Squishing humans like ants at a picnic.
Pholkhero: Fried ice cream is a vegetable!
Ruff Hi: On deck for a completely no-nonsense turnset.
negyvenketto: Livin' in a gangster's paradise.
Lobster Boy: Can't decide whether to duck-and-cover, or stop-drop-and-roll.

Jeez. It would sure be nice to go on the offensive one of these days...

To do so we probably will need to take one of our infantry units from with some supporting Archers/Axemen/Spearmen to defend it.

I think that we probably should do it because we need production.

I vote NO. Mr Teenyville is acting as an AI unit magnet and putting any city in front of that will just attract AI unit attention there. I'd prefer to chop some jungle around Mr Teenyville to open up a killing zone and put some forts in other jungle tiles (with suitable units) to slow down AI incursions.

got it, but you'll have to wait the full 72 hours...unless someone wants to swap me :mischief: hmm, ruffie ~

Forest chops might not be so bright. During my set the AI sent many, many chariots past my defenders. The forests at least slowed them down enough for me to catch them.

Ohh tempting - ok, swap it!

Hello! It is I ... Monkey, Great Sage, Equal of Heaven! I have come looking for my friends, Sandy and Pigsy - have you seen them?

Err - who are you?

I am Monkey, born from an egg on a Mountain Top - I have battled the Gods and demanded gifts from them. I have battled demons ... even though Tripitaka asks us to be peaceful.

Are you a mighty warrior? If so, can you help us organize our defense?

Of course - I fear no-one, and this magic staff of mine gives me the ability to summon clouds for transport. I shall tour your world and return with wisdom ...

@GreyFox - I knew that you would know about this guy. There was a fab TV show after school while I was growing up - apparently, it is still shown on ABC-TV (Australia). It was huge when I was watching it!

In the meantime, General Beast took command and instructed that an inner defense be set up as a back stop. There are a number of enemy units that have got past Mr Teenyville and have started to pester the secondary cities. A debate raged in the Simian council about chopping the jungles to remove the cover that the humans are getting. The counter argument is that these jungles are actually slowing their units down and giving us a chance to kill them off. However, some chopping might prove useful providing we have roaded back up to enable our units quick movement. But wait, the actual make-up of the current enemy units threatening our non-front line cities (swords, axes, spears, archers) would have been moving slowly anyway.

Chimp0011.jpg

And so a mass chopping of jungles was commenced ...

Monkey, GS, EoH: Wait, wait - stop that now. No chopping of the jungle at the moment. What are you? Hmmn? Aren't you a bunch of monkeys? Hmmn? Where do monkey's live? No, no, no - not in comfitable sleeping quarters or huts. Monkey's originally lived in the jungle. Thus we should have a massive advantage moving through the jungle. You need to train some of your army as jungle attack / defense specialists. That will give them massive bonuses on defense and double movement through jungles.

Ahh, right - no chopping of jungle. So, more workers were ordered and those that are available, started to road the jungle. They were provided with cover while they built to roads.

Meanwhile ...

Bubbles: What am I doing here? I'm stuck out here, miles from city protection, miles from the Banana-stills ... hmmn, maybe that is their plan. The only others that I have to talk to (maybe drink with) is all of these humans that just tromp past - they never come and visit. This is boring ... booorrriinnngg!!!

Little Devil: Hi Bubbles!

B: eerrrr - hi - who are you?

LD: I'm you - silly. What are we doing here? Lets get back to Monkeyshine and help them defend those bananas!

B: I've been told to stay here until all of these units are gone!

LD: Well - what are you waiting for - kill them all! Then we can go for a drink!

B: Great idea!!

@Mr Teenyville - General Beast observes that Bubbles seems to be having some trouble concentrating. He seems to be looking around and talking to himself. Gen Beast decides that a moral building visit is in order ...

Bubbles goes crazy and starts to attack every human in site ...

Chimp0012.jpg

[bubbles almost buys it - lucky Gen Beast was handy to provide some protection]

Monkey, GS, EoH: I have returned! Where is my gift! And here is my initial suggestion for setting up your defense. You have archers in Mr Teenyville that are doing nothing. You need to train these guys as mountain defenders, then getting them onto the mountain near Teenyville to harass the enemy. This will work if you commit enough Archers.

One specially trained mountain archer is ordered to test this suggestion ...
Chimp0016.jpg
- experiment

Monkey, GS, EoH: Now that you have jungle trained warriors you need to set up a defensive line that plays to this strength. Here is my suggestion ...
Chimp0018.jpg
- final layout

The red circles are the current enemy units ... yes, I know that you have some enemies in the back field - 2 chariots (1 0.3/4 str the other full str) and a sword but you have some units (blue circles) providing options. You also have the North-Western wall set up. Bubbles on the far right, then some jungle commando axes and spears. On the South-East - you have some units in motion that will clean up the the 4 chariots there. The suggestion is to use your infantry as mobile clean up troops and leave your archers in Mr Teenyville to hold that city. The humans are too cowardly to attack Mr Teenyville while infantry is there - lets encourage them to attack archers and thus cut their numbers quicker.

Gen Beast: I'm not sure that is a sensible plan. It could mean we lose Mr Teenyville! I'll pass this up the line and see what others think. Meanwhile, I love chariots for breakfast - I'm going back country to see what I can scare up!

Victory Stats (manual) 59 v 2

One tactic that I was using to our advantage was saving promotions until after the battle. You attack, kill the unit but take some damage. Then select the unit who just attacked and take your promotion - and get healed instantly. It sounds like an exploit as I expected that you would not be able to take the promotion.

<and I left the save file at home! Duh!> Will post it as soon as I can.
